It is our distinct pleasure to announce that the 2009 Dirt Oval Indoor Great Lakes Championships will be hosted by Battle Front Gaming and R/C on February 28th, 2009. All of the details of this event will be coming soon, so check back to find out what the plan is for this event. Please start to spread the word around so we can make this event a huge success just like our regional event a few months ago was. We look forward to hosting this event for the R/C community

I don't think I'm going out on a limb here when I say that this event is going to be a lot of fun. John can get us as much pit room as we need and the oval program is really starting to get dialed in. With our weekly turnout averaging around 30 racers, I think it could get pretty intense out there.

I hope some of the offroad guys decide to join us, I'm planning to do both events. I know that there is a perception that you have to totally set up your car for Oval racing, but I'm not sure that's entirely true. I think Roy might have the track record in 13.5 truck with the same truck and setup that he uses for offroad and I think Butch might have done something similar with his truck. In any event, it's going to be a good time so why miss out.

Yes we will run a diverse group of oval cars for this event. And before you ask, not all of these classes are ROAR approved. For that reason I anticipate a group of ROAR approved classes, and a group of exhibition classes for this event. Late models, sliders, and trucks do not fall into ROAR approved dirt oval. Therefor as you can expect we want to be careful what we call ROAR sanctioned at this event. We would like to run all of these classes, we just need to be discuss with ROAR how we want to do it.

We can run stock, super stock, or mod depending upon what people want to run. Most nights the late model class is an open class though, anything goes.

Panther Clay Switches hook up on the oval pretty good for me. The track is pretty smooth and now that John is dragging it every few weeks, it seems to have a lot of grip in it. I have also used Losi Pink Taper Pins with some success.

Hi Everyone,

Just wanted to give you a quick update on this event because several things have changed. First off, there was a great deal of concern on the part of the oval racers that the track may be beat up after the off-road ROAR event the previous day. For that reason this event will be moved to Saturday February 28, 2009. Practice will be held on Friday February 27, 2009.

Also there has been a lot of talk about the sanctioned ROAR classes and what would be run at this event. Because so much of what we race in this region does not fit well into the ROAR rules, we will not make this an official ROAR event. This will open the up the event for classes like unlimited late models, sliders, and stadium trucks.

Please make a point to note those changes, more details will be available soon.

Keith

KzooLou is the man in charge of this event. I "think" the rules since its not ROAR are going to be very loose, more of a "Lets sort the R/C's out by classes like stock, super stock, and mod....." and those are the only rules, but I could be wrong. Kzoo can you shed some light on how the classes will break down?

All classes and rules will be posted by this weekend.

Right now, its looking like:

13.5 Stadium Trucks
Mod stadium truck (although they rarely qualify faster than the 13.5)
13.5 Sliders (Losi and others)
13.5 4wd Late Model
Mod 4wd Late Model
Possible 4wd buggies, Slashes, and three legged dogs if we can get a few heats of them going.

If you have any doubts about racing at BFG, come check us out for some weekly racing sometime. We'll be racing every Saturday night between now and then and usually get a pretty decent turnout.

More details to follow.

This is going to be an event to make plans for. The track is very smooth and a variety of tires work well on the trucks. Mod trucks will out qualify 13.5 easily. Looking forward to this event!

Should be a good one!

Online signup will begin this week with a pretty good discount for signing up before February 14th. The discount will apply to all classes, so if you're planning to run a bunch of classes, it would be smart to get it out of the way early.

Could a 2wd buggy enter in the slider class? And will foam tires be allowed?

kzoolou
01-13-2009, 02:27 PM
Foam or rubber tires will be allowed. Not sure on the buggy body. We would prefer to have a Sprint body on them, but half of them will be some sort of buggy conversion anyway. Guess the wing would be optional, but I would think that would be a disadvantage not running one. I'll get an official ruling, but that would be my thoughts.

I meant the buggy car being allowed in the slider class. It would'nt have the wing but maybe a sprint body.

Sorry, yes I should have said chasis, not body. I think a few guys will be running some sort of buggy chasis, Slider conversion. It will be a pretty open class to allow as many people as possible to participate. Should be some great racing in the open slider class.

Can't wait. It's probably time start talking about this event again since it's only a month away. Details can be found at www.fatalimpactracing.com (http://www.fatalimpactracing.com)

There's a pretty good discount for registering early, so that's what I'm planning on anyway. If you register before February 15th, you get $5 off your first class, $5 off of your second class, and racing is only $5 on Friday night, so you save something like $17 by getting signed up early.

To sign up early, you can sign up at the track or visit the link on the race article on the Fatal Impact Racing site to do it online using Paypal. You have to sign up at RCSignup.com, but that's a pretty cool site anyway.

Remember, you have to get your cash in by February 14th to qualify for the discount.

Had a full heat on Saturday and a few people have expressed interest so I'd say lets get a class on the schedule. I'd like to keep it down to one class with the theory that less classes with more in each class is more fun than too many classes with only a few cars in each. Will Stock Slash (same rules as Slash Bash) work for most people?

I've been getting quite a few inquiries and confirmations for the Great Lakes Outlaw Oval event on the 28th. Sounds like we'll have a pretty decent turnout for this event with some of the heavy hitters in Truck and Late Model coming.

I"m working on some prizes and the trophies for this race are pretty nice. If you have anyone interested in donating anything, don't be shy. Let me know and I'll be happy to follow up with them. BFG will make sure that any sponsors will be mentioned profusely throughout the event. RC racers are pretty loyal because I think we understand the precarious nature of our hobby. Please make sure to step up and support any business that supports our event.

I've also been asked about getting pre-registered this week to save the extra $5 per class. You can pre-register online, but you can also fill out a form (to be completed and put on the web by Sunday Feb 8th) and send it in to John by next Sunday.

Plan on a full day of racing, 3 heats and a main with the possibility of time trials prior to the first heat (still working on the details for this). Something about going out and trying to lay down a perfect lap sounds fun.

As always, if you have any questions, give me a shout.

Dragged the track Sunday night and it turned out very nice. Some late models out for practice tonight and you couldn't see them move up and down at all.

Will wait and see if we want to drag it one more time the weekend before the race or if it is better left as is.

Hey guys,

I will throw this up for discussion.

During this oval event, do you want the computer to call the lap times and running order or would you rather have me do that (computer voice or human voice)?

During practice and any gaps we have between rounds, do you want music on the PA system or silence?

Any other thoughts for the event, throw them out so we can discuss them, thanks.

A human calling the races would be nice and some tunes paling too. to much silence we may go crazy.

kzoolou
02-16-2009, 07:39 PM
I think you did an awesome job with the ROAR race. A human calling would be really handy on the oval, especially during wrecks. It goes so fast that calling things like "Inside on the back straightaway!" really helps keep down the secondary dammage.

As far as music goes, whatever you want to do is cool with me. I think it would add to the event if you're willing to do it.

Sounds like a plan, I will bring the iPod and my mouth for the event. I will rely on you guys to tell me to announce more or less during the races. I know there is a fine line between good announcing and being annoying on the mic.

The only way I would miss this is if my wife gives birth to our daughter over that weekend. She is 3 weeks away from the due date, so it could be any day now.

I've been receiving a steady inflow of questions and concerns about this race for the last week or so. I'm hoping that means we're going to have a lot of racers on the 28th, but regardless, it's going to be a killer time.

If you have questiions or concerns, rather than post them in this forum, please PM me. I'll do my best to get you an answer.
