View Full Version : Handeling differences in bodies
A.Hartzell 11-12-2008, 02:39 PM Well after 17 years in this hobby and racing every 1/8 and 1/10 class there is, I'm making the switch to 1/4 scale. :woohoo:
What I want to know is, what is the handeling differences between the 3 major bodies that are out there?
Please don't post your personal prefrence as that is not what I'm after. I know how I would like my car to drive and I'm just wondering which body get me there.
A.Hartzell 11-12-2008, 03:01 PM Thanks. I'll be running at GLQSR near Lansing, MI.
jbell31 11-12-2008, 04:15 PM As a GLQSR member and the webmast of thier site, Scott is correct. The Chevy has an abundance of front downforce. I had to run one in the ROGN race. I have also run both ford and Dodge and I would say that they are about the same. I think the Dodge is amybe just alittle beter as far as rear downforce due to the straighter rear deck, but other than that the two are real close...
A.Hartzell 11-12-2008, 09:56 PM Thanks Jim. I'm thinking I'll be running a Chevy since I believe that there is no such thing as a car that turns to much.
jeffdavis38 11-12-2008, 11:29 PM It also matters which chassis you run. Some chassis need more front down force and some like the rear down force.
willyplankhead 11-13-2008, 02:21 AM Thanks Jim. I'm thinking I'll be running a Chevy since I believe that there is no such thing as a car that turns to much.yea it is in 1/4 scale and your right jeff body can make big diffrences to what chassis you are running:thumbsup:

Chuck, you let it out. LOL I thought I was the only one who had a funny looking chevy with a 1" front bumper. It works well though. At many different tracks, LPR, Ingalls, MPR

Thanks,
Kinda like back in the fishing days. And I would have good practice days. Other fisherman would be struggling, and they would ask me "Dave how did you catch your fish"? Of course I said "IN THE MOUTH!" LOL

OUCH!
Chance62 11-13-2008, 09:29 PM I prefer the CEC ford body, however they are hard to get ahold of. Other than that I recomend the dodge for just about anywhere. I ran it for half of my NCS races including the one I won here in Washington. At the end of the day....look what the fastest guys in the country run! That will never set you wrong. Scott runs a dodge and Brent just started running one. Come to think of it....all of this years GN NCS races were wone with either a CEC ford or a dodge! I do like running the Chevy bodies on short and flat tracks. It does help the car turn in better.
There is such a thing as "turning too good"!! WCMs already have a great ability to turn well because of their caster adjustibility, nose weight, and roll centers. Putting a Chevy body one a WCM would work well if you are running in your living room but I wouldnt suggest it for much more! I believe Cat5s are much the same. I would suggest a Dodge or Ford for your Cat5....

Denny Andrews 11-14-2008, 12:26 AM I believe it was a WCM Ford that won at the Vegas Nationals Chance .... I might be mistaken though...

Hey wasnt i the first loser nationaly in a dodge? LOL :woohoo:
jeffdavis38 11-14-2008, 01:07 AM I think you should run a Chevy body on a Pro1 car at any track. The Pro1 cars need more turn in help more that it needs help off the corner. When I ran the Pro1 chassis I ran the Chevy body.:thumbsup:Let me jump in here if I can?

jeffdavis38 11-14-2008, 01:16 AM I would run the Ford body. I like the ford over the Dodge because of the balance. The Dodge is all rear down force, The Chevy is all front, and the Ford is both front and rear. It is a good balanced body:thumbsup:. The cat cars that I have seen that run good have the Ford body on them not saying that the other want work but that is what I have seen. Good luck!!!I'll be running a cat 5
jeffdavis38 11-14-2008, 01:20 AM A lot of how any body works is like Chuck said, how it is put on the Chassis. Always look at tire clearance also. Talk to Scott at Cat 5 and I'm sure he will help you. He love to see his cars up front.
willyplankhead 11-14-2008, 02:20 AM glad chance and jeff said it instead of me so mike could not pick it apart LOL but at the final showdown at dallas in 07 there was a fast pro-1 with a chevy body on it i spanked mike with a dodge on a wcm i am now runing the ford like the balance freddies track has more bite than any track i have been to dallas is less and LPR were i race can be pretty slick pro-1 is a little tighter car monte carlo helps the forward bite wcm is a little free dodge or ford plants the rear better you really need to take every factor and apply to your car bottom line the chassis, track, and what feel you are looking for makes you or breaks you
Chance62 11-14-2008, 03:30 AM I believe it was a WCM Ford that won at the Vegas Nationals Chance .... I might be mistaken though...
Yes, you won the Super Nats (not an NCS race!) with a WCM ford but Brent and I each won one with CEC fords and then Donny B, Scott S., and I won the rest with Dodges!
A.Hartzell 11-14-2008, 07:53 AM Chance,
Who can I contact about getting a CEC Ford? Since I won't be able to hit the track until April, I've got time to wait for a body.

I don't believe they are made anymore. They were pulled oversaes and imported up until a few years ago.
Chance62 11-14-2008, 10:05 AM Fred is right, they arent made anymore unfortunately. Its too bad because it is by far my favorite body!
fish4check 11-14-2008, 11:05 AM Freddie....
You sale these bodies?
Like A. Hartzell I have till spring to get one painted/wrapped up.
A.Hartzell 11-14-2008, 11:10 AM I'd be willing to import them if they are still being pulled. Any one know who was pulling them?

Tim Mc 11-15-2008, 12:14 PM Absolutely!!:thumbsup:What did you guys think of the PRC Monte Carlo, Lumina, Chevy truck, Pontiac, T-Bird? Would those be any interest to anyone here if produced again?
mikeee62 11-15-2008, 01:10 PM chevy truck would be outstanding , I'd order two
There could be a chance that lance would run some bodies if there was a commitment of atleast 20+ bodies. Back in the day he would run hundreds.
Racenut53 11-15-2008, 06:06 PM Since the CEC body is not readily avaliable, would that make it illegal under the IMPACT PART catagory? Just curious.
Freddie's Hobbies 11-15-2008, 06:13 PM Since the CEC body is not readily avaliable, would that make it illegal under the IMPACT PART catagory? Just curious.
NO it would not
MSadler 11-15-2008, 06:23 PM Since the CEC body is not readily avaliable, would that make it illegal under the IMPACT PART catagory? Just curious.
Apples and Oranges here guys the CEC body does not fall under the impact rule because it is not readily avaliable NOW. it used to be readily avaliable so if you have one it is legal to run it. Some of us have car chassis that are not being made anymore but it is not illegal for us to run them now! Be careful how you read IMPACT PART rules!
MSadler 11-15-2008, 06:45 PM Impact Parts are defined as parts or components that are uniquely critical to
the competitive operation of a quarter scale race car. They are further defined
as items where significant technical developments and/or enhancements might
possibly render the previous version of the part or component obsolete or noncompetitive
or represents an excessive cost versus benefit to the racer. The
current list of IMPACT PARTS includes but is not limited to, engines, carburetors,
clutches, clutch bells and components, brakes and components, shock
absorbers, tires, hosts and bands and bodies. Parts or components should be
readily available to all QSAC members.
Manufacturers are urged to submit in writing, parts or components that fall into
this category, to the Impact Parts Committee Chairman or Co-Chair for review
and disposition as to the legality for competition under QSAC rules.
In short if it was legal once and is now hard to come by and or it is no longer made it is still legal...this rule applys to new parts and parts that someone with the know how and ability to produce on their own that would give them a performance edge or advantage!! Does this make sense now?
