Hi! does anyone know the fastest and easiest way to determine if the the float has a pin hole in it. I had one that had such a small hole not sure a pin could fit in it. I have heard, shaking the float & submersing it in water to see it bubble. I have been told when priming the carb. with the bulb, the carb will will leak is a quick sign float has a leak and is not rising to shut off the fuel.
Anyone have some tips ??
Thanks!!

Weight it down in a glass of water and watch for the bubbles or let it set overnite to see if it is full of water the next day. Have a good one. Geo

if you float bowl is overfilling it could have a bad seat, or needle.

Best way to check normally if it is water logged fuel logged it will make a swishing sound when shaking it make sure it is dry all the way then shake it if you see any wetness anywhere chances are its got a pin hole in it the most proper place with these occur in the center of the float where the two seams attach
or on top of the float where it has rubbed on the body of the carb another thing that causes flooding issues is a put in wrong way seat those seats are suppose to go in a certain way with the cut in seat side showing downward into the carb body if that open cut area of the seat is visable then you have a issue with flooding
also check to make sure the gap of the float is correct this can cause a issue in itself
hope these tips have helped
take it from someone who has been servicing these units for 20 years
take care

Hi Calvin
Thansks for the information!! Is there a specific symptom, (besides not starting) that tells you the needle/ seat are bad or the float is no good with out taking the carbuetor apart or taking off the bowl?

if the spark is blue and it is not firing then yes chances on it being carb related is 100 to 1 then again it depends on if there is any backfiring going on if it backfires then you have a timing issue which can be sheared keyway etc.

If your fuel system is gravity fed, good chance that gas would be in the crankcase oil.
