Michiana RC in Mishawaka, Indiana is hosting the First Annual Turkey Race on Sunday, November 23, 2008!

Note: This race will have involvement with the Food Bank of Northern Indiana, so we'll proudly be racing for a good cause! $1 FROM EACH ENTRY WILL GO DIRECTLY TO THE FOOD BANK!

November 23rd... Weekend before Thanksgiving... Yeah, the Ovalmasters is that weekend- but you probably aren't going. So, what else do you do? Come out to Mishawaka, Indiana and race the First Annual Turkey Race! Here's some details of the race:

Trophy Classes:

BRL-Based 17.5 Stock
BRL-Based 13.5 SuperStock (21.5 / LiPo Cars are welcome to run in this class)
10.5 Outlaw Sprint Cars
Losi Mini-Sliders
Michiana RC's Sportsman Class

We will allow other classes to race if four or more show up at a reduced rate- however trophies will not be available for those classes.

Cost of Entry:

First Class: $20
Second Class: $10
Third Class: $5
Non-trophy classes: $5

Schedule of Events:
Race itself is a one-day event (Sunday). However, we club race Saturday nights. So....
Saturday:

Doors Open at Noon
Club Racing Starts at 4:00PM- Two Quals and Main
After Racing- Doors stay open until 11:00PM for Open Practice

Sunday:

Doors Open at 8:00AM
Racing Starts at Noon- Three Quals and a Re-Sort after round two.

Bonus: If your entry to the Turkey race is paid by Saturday the 22nd, you can club race for only $5! (normal entry is $13 for the first class)

Questions:
I haven't raced Michiana RC before- tell me about the track!
Track is 36x60 CRC Ozite- 120' runline with a 12' wide infield. Lap times are approximately three seconds!
Do I have to race there the week before to be eligible for a trophy, should I win?
Absolutely NOT! You race, you win- you get a trophy. Period. (well, as long as the car is legal)
I've never been there, how is Pit Space, and what do I need to bring?
Good! Last year, we were a little tight with 70 entries at our Oval Madness race. We've added more pit space, so we'll be good! Tables are all provided- may wish to bring an extra chair and power strip- just in case. Most pitting is UPSTAIRS in one of two lofts. There is limited downstairs pitting.
How does Tech Work at Michiana RC?
We WILL do tech at the race. On normal club nights, we ask that racers police themselves to keep the racing going. At the Turkey Race, we'll check ride height, weight, and legality of motor. All rules will be clearly posted- and there will be no "funny" unnecessary rules like stock wiring on speed controls. For minor infractions, you will be given a "warning slip" on your car. Major violations will result in DQ of that round. We will have the ability to check inductance, and won't be against tearing down a motor- but only if necessary. All A-Main cars will be expected to be 100% legal. We at Michiana RC fully understand the current rules, and have a good understanding of brushless motors (no DQ's because your older 13.5 doesn't have the orange timing ring, for example...)

Absolutely! Might be a tick slow, but more than welcome to. You can also try our sportsman class as well- in this class, you can run ANY motor and battery combination in a full-bodied pan car- the car just cannot run faster than a 3.6 lap time. (17.5's are running 3.1-3.3 now). The class allows for close door-to-door racing without having to push the limits or worry that you have the proper motor / battery for the class...

Technically- yes. We'd "prefer" it be a body that's in resemblance to an ASA, NA$CAR, Late Model, something that spends it's life chasing it's tail. But yeah, you can run it...

Will I be DQ'd if I have a black ring on my 17.5? Do I have to put the 16 ga wire back on my speedo? Are these rules subject to change as the races go on?

This race is just 10 days away. I want to start a roll call to see who all is planning on coming and what classes. I'm in for 13.5 and possible 17.5. To any racers out of the area, we will be combining 4 cell 13.5 with LiPo 21.5 in one class. If anyone needs a good setup for any class feel free to ask. We will try our best to get you headed in the right direction.

Hey Todd as long as the purple ring says 13.5 is that OK?
Since I raced there last weekend am I allowed to race for a trophy this weekend? Cause if that is the case the worst I could finish would be 2nd.

Count me in for 13.5 4 cell and 10.5 sprint. I can be a backmarker with the best of them.

ToddFalkowski
11-18-2008, 12:27 PM
LOL!

In all seriousness, we will do an appropriate amount of teching on the cars, and motors can be pulled from cars if warranted (like, say a jet engine sounding 17.5...) Leave those at home- we'll find 'em.

And, of course, you don't have to race at Michiana RC weeks in advance to be eligible for a trophy. Besides- the trophy is only part of the weekend. The assistance we'll be providing for the Northern Indiana Food Bank this weekend will be priceless!

Seeya there!

I'm sure you can run the sportsman class. Almost every kind of battery and motor combo are running in it. You just have to turn it down to stay at or below 3.6 secs. Surprisingly it makes for some good racing. There have also been a handful of guys running a truck class which I think you guys have a couple of those. No trophies for that class though.

Are you emphasizing the word "BLAST". I saw some hard hits last weekend in the trucks. WOW. Hey it wouldn't be a turkey race without the big turkey himself Ted Falowski. What's Ted gonna race? LOL

I've heard Ted Falowski (driver of the 23) will run 13.5, maybe 17.5, and maybe, depending on how much he's coaxed, a sprint car...

Only time will tell, though...
