Anyone know about this series of 1/43 classics? Are there more?

All I know about this series is what is printed on the enclosed pamphlets; the Lakeside Press was going to publish a new series of Highway maps of the US, so they perhaps used these European model cars as a form of advertisement or incentive? Copyright 1965. All in the identical brown box with soft foam packing. Did they have permission to use these models? What other castings were in the series? Lakeside was part of R R Donnelly & Sons of Chicago, famous for printing the Sears catalog, the Yellow Pages, etc. Here they are:

1: RAMI Hautier 1898

2: RAMI Ford Modele T

I think there's more to the range. If I remember right, they're listed in Dr. Ed Force's book on Italian models. Chris Sweetman likely knows more about these...

Looked at Dr Force's Solido, France, and Italy books. Did not see a mention of them so hopefully Chris will know more about this Americans series. Too bad I did not check around when I lived in Chicago myself! :hat:

I can add nothing to your search for information. I just wanted to comment on the uniqueness of these models. If you find more, please share them as well. Neat stuff!

Hi Baskingshark

Looks like there could be a Jaguar 'E' Type in the range judging by the illustration on the pamphlet. May be they used the Tekno version.

Unfortunately, I cannot add any more information here.

Cheers Chris

On the Solido Mercedes SS are the bumpers metal or plastic?

If they are plastic they should flex slightly.

Cheers Chris

OK, I just received another one! Chris - you may recognize it! See http://www.hobbytalk.com/bbs1/showthread.php?t=306849&highlight=dugu

The issue is that it did not come with its brochure but with brochures for a No 6 and a No 7! It was smashed in two (really completely in half!) so it took a while to 'weld' it back together - perhaps that is why Chris' version looks slightly "crisper", well OK, looks much much better than mine!

So I think I know their system now:
1 pre-1900 - RAMI Hautier
2 1900 - RAMI Model T
3? 1910 - DUGU Fiat
4 1920 - SOLIDO Mercedes
5 1930 - RIO Fiat
6 1940 - pictures a WW-II Jeep - who made one in 1965?
7 1950 - pictures a 1954 Thunderbird. Who made one in 1965?
8 1960???
