View Full Version : What is your computer worth today?
TJETDRAGRACER 10-31-2008, 12:55 AM I got a used Dell Dimension XPS T550. ~~I looked it up and it was one of the top of the line of the day at $2500. new. Now at going on 7 years old it's worth about $85.oo~~I just buy old used computers for eBay and e-mail, when they crash I just buy another piece of crap to get me by. But hay I have to say that this old Dell sill kick's butt for what it is.~~Sending a pic of one like mine, but with a different monitor and speakers.~Tom (Peace Always)~~PS. here is how it works, you buy a pc in a store and pay 1,000.00 for it hwever, the pc drops to half value the minute you walk out the door of the shop with it, same is true for hardware components. so your 1k pc is worth 500.00 once it leaves the store and if you have used it you need to deduct another 10 to 20% off. that is the nature of pc's and the speed at which the hardware is advancing.

Ian Anderson 04-20-2011, 08:34 PM I just bought the New TOSHIBA Qosmio Q888 machine, played almost $2000 US dollars for it 6 mounts ago On line, Bought the three year warranty From Toshiba and More memory as well some place else, for about anther $1000 I guess, Its worth $3000 as it sets I suppose GIVE OR TAKE, WHO REALLY KNOWS, And That doesn't include all the money I have raped up in high end software and all the extras as well, Case, Lazier Mouse, External Sound Blaster USB, External Burners also USB, and much more to many to list here........As far as what it is worth ?,.....Well it makes me over $250.000 A year owning one in my line of work, so buy the time One year will have pasted, I guess you could say its worth $253.000, ...lol......You do the math for more then a year. But I think what the Original post was really all about here, is How quickly they deprecate in value in a VERY SHORT amount of time both by Out dating and usage really, I have been building and using them since about 1984, my self and that has ALWAYS BEEN THE CASE, and always will, with the First 8088 single 8 bit prosier at 16 megahertz clock speed or there about anyway, BEST I CAN REMEMBER, and before that Commodores and Apples running BBS's and small servers of are own at EVEN LOWER SPEED and modems, so They say that,.. The commandos and apples that is, have collector value with age ?, So does that mean the one's we buy today, PC'S or MAC'S will as well, "NOT A CHANCE GUYS", the new has worn off my friends for what they can do at this time, There only worth what you can use them for at the time, NOTHING WITH AGE NOW WILL BE ADDED IN VALUE,.....I'm sure that will prove to be the case FROM HERE ON OUT my friends, Time will show that, anyway that's my take on it all ladies, Take it or Leave it, Get what you can for them WHILE THE IRONS HOT is all I can tell you for there Value in a few mounts Even bought new now......"SORRY" but that only the facts, NOT MY FAULT....lol

born to ride 04-26-2011, 07:56 PM is every one talking about computors or toys? or is it about the same thing?
mrw1986 04-28-2011, 10:05 AM My PC is worth about $600-700 still from when I built it a few years ago.
starlord 04-29-2011, 02:49 PM I have this machine which is a windows XP, then I have a windows 7 machine but one day someone got into my trailer and after fulling with that machine, they made it so I can't print with it. Plus I need a keybord for my Atari 1040 ST and one for my Atari TT/030 machine.

If the printer is ON, and Attached to the computer, TRY REATTACHING WHEN ITS POWERED UP, Both Computer and Printer running, And has paper in it as well, You may need to assign the right printer to the computer in settings somewhere, Or update your printer drive even, its a simple matter really, DO YOU HAVE ANYONE that can come look at it for you, that knows ANYTHING about home computer operations, because They could fix that in no time for you if so, most anyone who runs there home computer knows this stuff,....Where are you trying to print from, Which program, What does it not do when you try and print,..WHAT DOES IT SAY ON THE SCREEN when you hit print, NOTHING ?.... or does it give you some kind of information flag ?..
As far as the Atari 1040 ST keyboard, I'm sure you can find one on E-Bay or on line some where cheep enough, If you look hard enough on GOOGLE, Have a good look Or get some one that can look for you saying JUST WHAT YOUR LOOKING FOR, Like -
{ where can I buy an Old Keyboard for my Atari 1040 ST } ....

starlord 08-28-2011, 10:58 PM I can get it to print sometimes, this windows 7 machine only has usb inputs and what I have to do is turn off the hp1600, do a print and this is aved to a buffer, I then turn on the printer and after a few sec's it does the print of the buffer. I hope to get my xp into a repiair place and hae the hard drive wriped clean and window xp put back on.
in the mean time I hope to find keybords for my Atari 1040ST and my atari TT030then fine a older printer that I can put of them and at last I'll have them for writing my files for my sci-fi short stores. and the TT030 can run faster than this blated window 7 machine.
starlord 08-28-2011, 11:00 PM I have the catlog and address for the company that handles almost ALL the Atari hardware.
No BUGS for the Ataris too.
starlord 08-29-2011, 03:05 PM The bad thing with the HP system 7 is that the OS in NOT in a rom chip, it's on a small inter drive that can be accessed ba the keyboard. I spent a good time sunday checkin it out and I did fine where the programing cods had been messed up
and on saterday I had gotten a ad from a software down load outfit and as I do like to try thing out, I downloaded the verson of the apple web brower that is made to would with windows machine. Big goof on my part, it changed and added a bunch of stuff that would lok up my machine, so it took until sunday night to clear it all away and I had to shut down this one for a full night to clean it all out. I had to restored it to a point 5 days ago. now it works fine.
oh ya, for Atari goods" www.BEST-ELECTTONICS-CA.COM
starlord 09-07-2011, 10:56 AM for the keybords for both the 1040ST and the TT 030 I found the folling web site:
www.Best-Electrontics-ca.com they have almost everything that an Atari computer needs.
starlord 10-03-2011, 12:44 PM the system 7 machine has it's OS in a inbord flash dive and so far I've seen at lest one line of programming that had be taken out so I have to find a way that will let me in intall the os. But if I can find a printer that will work with 1040ST it'll be much better.
