Hey guys... Oval racing at all the local tracks seems to have died recently. I was thinking we could set up some dates for 2009 at the tracks around Florida, and make a series again. We could start with the first race of the series at the Speedway Race. Then we could have a race at Stricklands, MTR, Minnreg, and HobbyWorld for a 5 race Series throwing out one over the course of the year, every 2 months or so. It wouldnt take much to run a spread sheet for a point series. I've heard through katf1sh that someone would even be willing to donate the money for trophy's. It wouldnt take anymore for Mike, Mike, and George and whoever runs Minnreg to just hand over the results to whoever was keeping track of the points. I've heard a few people would even take charge of keeping the spreadsheets up, and then throw them on the website's. Just my thinking for more improved and deeper racing in Florida in '09.

there is a track in branford florida to it is a 291 feet concrete oval that would make a good series 3 different type of surfaces to run on

i keep hearing a series will kill oval racing???

this is the first year without a series and two of the 3 big tracks we run on are begging for entries each week?

is it realy a series that kills club racing or something else?

ryan is fired up about oval racing again..and that is good..we need 70 more ryans (well excited oval racers,we can't handle 70 ryans..LOL)

the big 3 promoters are in a funk..

we lost 2 race rock dates
6 focar races
no races in tampa so far

we still have a good group of guys who like to run with 30 other guys in the same class..

1)speedway race
2)minnreg
3)hobby world spring fling
4)MTR dog day may/june
5)strickland king of the hill (septic hill)
6)minnreg (year end trophy presentation)

nothing required buy anyone but to sign up and race

each club get's some guys gearing up for the races and attendance should spike a little?

warm up races generated entries as well...

RGU might come off some cash for trophy time at end of year? not a definite thing...

i dunno something needs to add some spark to florida oval racing...

this way no single shlep gets blamed for a bad time..the promoters get 100% of the entry monies...win win i think?

Branford ??? is that in florida ??? no I guess not , so it couldn't be in a Florida series anyway, besides you cant run fomies on concrete so that wouldn't be fair to every one

Branford is an awesome track. But some guys can't handle banked corners. Capped tires can scare as well.

but it doesn't sound like anyone is up to doing it...

You guys are beating a dead horse if you think the foam guys will come run caps. That horse died years ago!! Ask Ron98 he will tell you too.
Its sad but true, besides cap tires cost too much, at least that is the foam guys argument.
I have run the same 4 cap tires for close to a year.
Foams ... I have a huge bag of them for asphalt and then another huge bag of them for carpet, and the first thing I do with a new foam tire is cut half the rubber off it.
Yep all those statements have already been made so save your breath.

Oh well back to the same ol same ol

Hey guys... Oval racing at all the local tracks seems to have died recently.

I dont know what the problem is here local? I do know I only get 2 Saturdays a month off to go race and without my local track having a steady schedule and no one seeming to want to set one it's a mess.............do you just show up and hope for someone to race with???? or listen to all the internet B.S. and hope for the best? Whats worse for me is that Stricklands race day has fell on my scheduled work day twice in a row now

Racing in Florida has always been a little off in the summer with vacations and the weather ( to hot or threat of rain ) that plus the economy woes that everyone is facing has made for a long boring summer.

I,ve been traveling to Rug-Ratz up near Macon Ga. once a month for some indoor carpet racing, Lotsa Fun, good guys to race with. Track is nice 120-125 runline, 8-10 cars in 21.5 Lipo and a breakout class they race on Sundays. I also hear AVL in Pooler Ga. is starting a 21.5 lipo class next point series, they were running 13.5 4 cell,a stock truck class and the little latemodel sliders when I went up Laborday weekend, they have a nice indoor 110-120 runline carpet track also, they race on Saturday night.

Hope things sort out localy pretty soon.

I was just thinking that we need to start settings some dates for everyone to race. It doesnt even have to be a big race or a series. However we can just let everyone know way in advance that everyone is going to show up. Its pretty simple if I know 2 months in advance that everyone is going down to MTR for the weekend. I would go. Its just like Stricklands. We usually have pretty good 9-10 car turn outs there 25-45 entries. 5-6 different classes Last weekend 5-6 of us from up here in northern florida drove down to Tampa we had 17 17.5 lipo cars and it was a blast. I know 3-4 times a year I wouldnt mind driving somewhere to race, and Gas prices have come way back down. I know up in Kingsbay Georgia were I work gas was 2.09 today, so thats not longer a huge excuse. Katf1sh and I got to tampa and back on 40$ gas or less. I'd drop an extra 20$ every single week to race with 17 in a class, and I know if there was more then 2 weeks notice online we probably would of had 25 17.5 guys. So All Im saying is if we just say Hey everyone shoot for this date at MTR, This Date and Stricklands, This Date and Hobbyworld twice a year, bam there are 6 races a year where everyone gets together and we can have a lot more fun, because honestly other then minnreg the speedway race was the only large turnout race with an A,B,C main in multiple classes we've had this year.

Ok Im just gonna throw out some Dates for Races for next year where everyone shows up. I dont know what other events are going on around florida and the dates set for them. So if Im conflicting with another big race just post here and we can move stuff around. I figure if we have a Solid Schedule for the year set Jan 1st We will get 6-8 big races for the year in, and have a better year of racing in Florida.

Feb 1st Snowbirds
March 27-29 Speedway Spectacular
May 9th Stricklands (Katf1sh is even a bigger a$$hole)
June 20th MTR
July 25th Hobbyworld
Aug 15th Stricklands
Sept 26th MTR
Nov 7th Hobbyworld

Just throwing these dates out there. There is some good spread here in dates for racing that covers the entire year, but doesnt bunch everything up around the holidays. This would be 6 races outside of the big 2 that everyone gets together.

Ryan, thats a nice schedule and if you had a t-shirt with the May 9th race name on it I'd buy one .

BUT !

Here's the problem ....... its going to be the same 10-15 guys or so that would goto all those tracks and be able to do a whole schedule of a points race every month........some people either wont or cant travel, and thats fine ....... but THE only race that gets almost everyone to participate on asphalt is the speedway race because its unique.

you've got tracks that have good groups of racers having trouble getting them there every weekend when the track is close to them let alone driving across the state to race somewhere else.

it sucks, thats just the reality of it all

My suggestion is this ....... Hobbyworld, Strickland and MTR .......Besides the speedway race, birds and FCC races etc.

Every 2 months lets say the 3rd or 4th weekend of the month. Have a one off trophy style (like RACE ROCK was, and it had nothing to do with points) "special" race @ your respective tracks, plan it together amongst your selves .......This way the "special" races besides the regular stuff are spaced out a little more and might be a little easier for everyone to afford and plan on getting to ? That Boylan fella does 4 carpet races a year @ minnreg for the FCC but he doesnt do them 1 right after the other, he spaces them out months apart ........ and we all look forward to racing there and the turnout is good........ something to think about.

BTW, the crappy economy isint helping things either:(

Ryan, thats a nice schedule and if you had a t-shirt with the May 9th race name on it I'd buy one .

Im not taking Orders for Tshirts that say "Katf1sh is an A$$hole" I will charge the shirt cost +1$ Hopefully I can get enough takers to buy Katf1sh a shirt that says "I Am Katf1sh" let me know if you want one Im guessing they will cost around 10-18$ a shirt depending on how many I get.
