This is the story of my first slotcar in the era of 1969/70.It is an Atlas Pontiac Gp that I bought from a friend who lived in my building. At the time I was still fighting with my parents to get me a slotcar set despite my poor academic showing at the time but that is another story( They had Battery operated sets for 8$ but they stunk then as they do now:).
Any how the car was originally light blue w/ a white top. The car shown on the left is a actually a piece I bought at a slotcar show to use as a prototype for my resincasting project that was the same as my Pontiac originally was.But it is not the orginal car.
The second car in the Blue / flat black paint scheme represents what I did to my car for my budding racing career at my friend Warren's house (He was the one who turned me on to slotcars-A real bad influence as you can see :))
This car is actually a resincast repro I did that rides on a grey painted T-jet chassis. I even cast the Atlas style hubcaps & glued them on to the T-jet hub's for authenticities sake.Otherwise there is not even a drop of original Atlas DNA in it.
The 3rd car is my original Atlas Pontiac as it appears now.In the '70's
( late '72 ?) I repainted it flat green & made it into a convertible using the w/s from the light blue Atlas Olds convertible body that I bought from Sheepshead Bay Hobbies fom his "50 cents" box.Why I passed up that Atlas '32 Ford P/U I will never know & always regret along with not buying that plain brown AFX Nomad when the AFX first came out but that is another story( I bought the green metallic 2-tone one).

PS c/o "Another one from the archives" as I finally posted the picture.

My love for nomads goes way back before my love of pontiacs... And we all had our chance on the rare ones of today...I too held the prized brown nomad in my hands, only to be persuaded by my little brother to get something other than...well....poo poo  brown.... Just one more reason I can't stand my little brother!!! I believe I settled for an orange one with blue tinted windows.. Such is life...

Other than MEV, I don't see anyone really making any full sized pontiacs'. I hope and pray someday I can get my desk all messed up trying my hand at resin casting. I really like the 66 catalina 2+2, the the 67 grand prix (the only year for a GP factory convertible, at least through the 80's), and I always wanted a 66 lemans wagon set up with a GTO hood, the big 400 ram air engine, or a tripower. I've read some of the GM corporate execs had free reign to special order cars like that. Of course the 69 trans am was a rarity. I believe there were only 683 made, and only 8 were ragtops. Most of those ,of course, went to the GM execs too.. lucky bastages!!!
