View Full Version : 2009 'Birds: Questions
JimmyMack12 10-24-2008, 12:02 PM I wasn't sure where to put this, but been offline for quite some time now. I have the opportunity to purchase a used TC3 ready to go from a LHS here in Kissimmee, and just had some questions about the car, electronics, and the 'Birds:
1) What chassis will the Vintage cars be running? Are those Touring Cars? Newer chassis or running older cars? I ain't much of a road racer, but those things look awesome!
2) What tires should I start looking at? The ones on the car now are pretty worn out stuff.
3) I'll definitely want to look at updating the electronics/batteries/motor. Is brushless/Li-Po the way to go now? I'm not all the familiar with either.
4) Any Touring Car Oval classes at the 'Birds in January? If there are (Trucks?), I'll probably go more that route. Would love to see Outlaw wedge type Late Model cars ;-)
I haven't fully inspected that car yet (will do so in the next week or so) and see what all it needs. It definitely needs cleaned up, that's for sure.
Thanks for the help!

wait a minute 10-26-2008, 07:09 PM whats the best way to get equipment from point a to b and back in one piece? what options are there for shipping or transporting stuff?
MikeNum8 10-27-2008, 06:08 PM ask james35 what he used. And then do not use that.
really fred 10-27-2008, 08:25 PM i use DPS
James35 10-27-2008, 08:31 PM Hehe yeah. I was concerned about the hotel security and I didn't want my stuff to sit there too long before I arrived. So I shipped my stuff to the hotel via UPS Air 2-Day. It was timed to arrive the same day I flew in. That was the plan, anyway. Then the shipment was delayed. At this point, I knew I would be primarily spectating as my practice and qualifying days were slipping away. 1 and a half days later, it finally arrives. When I finally went to pick it up, the hotel let me walk back into the room and look through, and grab my package. They didn't ID me, or even check which package I took! I am glad that Snowbirds is at a better hotel now.
By the time I got my stuff, my first shot on the track was Friday morning. I had one minute of practice, then my qualifier. This was 2 years ago, back when the new CRC 1/12th Gen-X had front end breaking problems since they apparently chose a plastic that was too brittle. Sure enough, the car breaks on my Friday qualifier (round pipe track material didn't help matters either). Hehe, all I could do was laugh at that point. I very much enjoyed the Snowbirds event however.
No explanation was ever given by UPS, but I did get my UPS money back. Oooh joy.
CClay1282 10-27-2008, 09:55 PM Wow, thats horrible. Im glad im driving down, and my stuff will be with me!
