Welcome to the dark side. http://www.smooth-on.com/ Here is a place to get some specific info. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/hoslotcarcasting/ GoodwrenchIntim 10-21-2008, 11:37 PM Hobby Lobby if you have one near you has starter kits although I didnt care for the rubber as it tears WAYYY to easy, I like the micro mark 10 to 1 high strength.... an damn they raised the price, them bastages http://www.ares-server.com/Ares/Ares.asp?MerchantID=RET01229&Action=Catalog&Type=Product&ID=82663 GoodwrenchIntim 10-21-2008, 11:38 PM the red rubber cost the same as the clear, im getting clear next time http://www.ares-server.com/Ares/Ares.asp?MerchantID=RET01229&Action=Catalog&Type=Product&ID=83027 bobhch 10-21-2008, 11:43 PM Dunk21, With Smooth ons kit you should have enough mold material to make a couple 2 piece molds and a few small part molds also. That is if you don't go crazy and make your mold box to big...you don't want to make it to small either. There are lots of how to mold videos on U-Tube. Some of them are by Smooth on themselves. Smooth On starter kit comes with a basic CD that gives you the how to do it. Google slot car resin casting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You will find lots of stuff that will help. I read stuff on the net and watched videos also to get the whole thing down before starting. I may be saying something you already know but, Lego's are great for making mold boxes as, they will lock your 2 piece molds into place after you pour. I use masking tape to hold my molds together after the pour. Wear disposable gloves as it gets a little messy. Also I took a bunch of clear packing tape and put it on a large piece of cardboard to put on my work table. Smooth on has a great starter kit. You can't go wrong. I am on my 3rd one right now.:thumbsup::thumbsup: Alumilite is another brand that many here use too. http://www.alumilite.com/ There are lots of products to use & lots of ideas. It is great to see another toymaker ready to jump in to the fun! Is there a special process for making the mold? Just wondering. Rich grungerockjeepe 10-28-2008, 04:43 PM liquid nails drys fairly rigid. RTV is a flexible rubber, which is what you want. Ive seen brushable latex for molding plaster, and that would prolly work but you have to pour it in layers. Too much trouble, IMHO. vBulletin® v3.8.7, Copyright ©2000-2012, vBulletin Solutions, Inc.
