View Full Version : pros in 17.5
dr voodoo 2 10-21-2008, 02:01 PM Okay im going to get flamed for this but it kinda bothers me
At the neot race in 17.5 Im concerned with the names that were in that class compared to the 1 kid unsponsored franklin brink . What are your views on this in your mind is it everyone for themselves or is there something we can do to give the other guys who are not getting factory support and who have been racing for a short time to give thease guys there day in the sun?
flame away!
TomHargrave 10-21-2008, 02:10 PM noooooooo not again. lol
"Frank Ulbrik" 10-21-2008, 02:15 PM too much hobbytalk and not enough racing!!... its crazy how while im at the track i never hear these unsolvable topics! I feel there should be a class for new people and it should be 17.5 4 cell.
U can look at it like this too tho!.. new peeps can have they're 17.5 class at club races but at a large event or series race they should expect to race against fast people!
J-Dub Racing 10-21-2008, 02:28 PM I agree. But in the north east it has always been that way.
For local racing if 13.5 or 21.5 is available then the fast guys should run that. At big events new guys and "slow" guys are going to be in the c main.
swtour 10-21-2008, 02:34 PM dr voodoo2
The NEOT is a points series with a pretty good PRIZE package up for grabs...trying to be something more and bigger than a local set of club races...
This is similar to how we treat our traveling series.
It's not aimed at the NEWBIE racer, but they are surely welcome. But they have to be prepared to run with the BIG BOYS.
They just need to pick a class that fits them.
It appears that the NEOT series is a (4) cell NiMh based series, and that the 17.5 class IS the lowest level class offered, so he would be in the right class for the series in all likelyhood.
One of the things I started doing this year with so many of our racers migrating to the 21.5/LIPO class is to RANK the drivers using the RANKING system that the AUTOSCORE program has.
The program is set up to be able to set up the HEATS by ranking, so by setting them up this way drivers are racing against drivers close to their own level in the qualifiers. We do a RESORT for the 3rd round, and the FAST Cars all move to the top, and slow cars to the bottom.
It seems to be working good so far.
IMHO - I have no problem splitting classes (Sportsman and Expert) away from each other IF there are enough racers to justify this..but if there is less than enough to do a C or D main, there's really no point. FAST GROUP is in the A, slower group is in the B, just the way it should be.

dave, what are you talking about......
franklin gets TONS of help from everyone... along with a lot of the other racers at marshalls
if it is going to $40 to race any and all classes well i am going to run 2 classes.
in thr NEOT tour they have SK that could be your very entry level......
now on the other hand this bothers you but you dont mind leaving when you dont qualify for the A. that bothers me......
3 or 4 weeks ago i had a bad night and was actually in the C main. i could not for the life of me think i would be there. but i did run it.
flame away............................

alan buddy i for the life of me dont know why u care if someone leaves a race early? lol show me where this is against the rules joe made the a main and did not run ! im just looking into ways to help grow are hobby not discourage a guy who enters 17.5 and knows that he has no chance to make it because its stacked with pros ? Alan you and i have raced for a long time and i think you are a great guy but u no nothing abought my life and as far as im concerned me leaving 2 hrs early got me to tuck my little girl in instead of watching a bunch of grown men fart at each other and play grab ass lol i choose my little girl sorry
"Frank Ulbrik" 10-21-2008, 03:49 PM People wont get any better if they dont race against people that are faster than them!!!.... When did everyone get the BS if i cant win im not racing attitude??? ANyone with that attitude is a loser and shouldnt be racing anything at all! maybe try scrap booking or some other chick hobby!
Racin'Jason 8 10-21-2008, 04:01 PM I'm glad that Alan is mad at someone else today :)
Bart Diaz 10-21-2008, 04:17 PM Dave stop trying to cause trouble.
Matt Nothstein 10-21-2008, 04:20 PM For as long as I’ve known that ‘unsponsored’ young man… about 2 years or so, he has learned a tremendous amount. From starting out with a 1/12 scale in the Novice class to borrowing a real pan car from Brock. I give him props. He is getting help a lot of gentlemen(hahah) at Marshall’s, ran clean in his heats and kept his cool.
He was even polite enough to pull off halfway through the main @ the NEOT race…but I guess he got his dose of A-Main racing for the first time. Way to go
Like Frank said..People will not any better if they race against people that are faster than them..
Not throwing anything at you here Dave but why I think Joe left early is because of what happened the night before.. you know Route 6 is a nightmare…especially when it is dark.
dr voodoo 2 10-21-2008, 04:22 PM okay il stop trying to cause trouble hmmm never been accused of that before? lol
just asking a simple ? i dont care what u guys run geeee sorry i asked lol
Alan Behler 10-21-2008, 04:27 PM I'm glad that Alan is mad at someone else today :)
i tried calling you back
dr voodoo 2 10-21-2008, 04:28 PM Hmm how abought this u guys run that for a second class what if thease guys ran 13.5 for a second class and they were in your qualifier i wonder if anybody would mind then?
Bart Diaz 10-21-2008, 04:32 PM That wouldn't happen some of the guys that run 17.5 started out in 13.5 and saw that it wasn't for them and dropped down to 17.5.
Alan Behler 10-21-2008, 04:32 PM no one should be able to tell anyone what they should or should not be running
Alan Behler 10-21-2008, 04:33 PM dave why are you calling Bart out.......lol:hat:
dr voodoo 2 10-21-2008, 04:37 PM dave why are you calling Bart out.......lol:hat:

SteveHanson 10-21-2008, 04:44 PM Thanks Dave, it was fun bsing with you all weekend. Nice work uniform too!! lol Congrats to Bill "hits on my wife" Johnson for his A-Main win.
dr voodoo 2 10-21-2008, 04:52 PM hey there is some heavy eaters watching this thread right now dont drip any pork chop juice on your keyboard lol
Porksalot4L 10-21-2008, 05:13 PM I left early cause my back really did hurt. i raced 3 classes all day long and ran around like a mad man and by the mains i was tired. also i think i prooved enough just making the A main with a 10 year old car, 2.10 tires or smaller and the same battery in the car the whole night! the one i baught the week b4 from Ozzy for 7 bucks and a YOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO :) some people think not running the main means being a bad sport but to me, its the simple fact that i race RC for fun. i want to do good without spending a arm and a leg. spending $40 for a race, and getting to hang out all day long with friends is well worth the money. running the A main or any main isnt nessicary for me at all. try going to the bar with $40 and trying to spend 12 hours there! lol actually ive done that b4 also! :) flame away seems to be the popular saying today :)
captain11 10-21-2008, 06:19 PM Dave did you want the other 38 drivers in 17.5 to move up to 13.5. That would have been great having an I main with 8 cars in a main.
Franklin might be young and unsponserd but he out quailified over 30 other drivers to make the 'A' main. congradulations franklin.
Bill Johnson 10-21-2008, 06:42 PM It takes 2 to Tango Hanson.....;)
RIP MOTORSPORTS 10-21-2008, 07:25 PM where in the rule book does it say i can't run 17.5 the biggest class there.running 2 classes sucks 90% of the time!!!!lol
Alan Behler 10-21-2008, 07:26 PM It takes 2 to Tango Hanson.....;)
bill, you dance??:freak:
QUOTE "Frank Ulbrik" .... When did everyone get the BS if i cant win im not racing attitude???
So far, I haven't seen/heard anyone actually say that..
That if they couldn't win they would quit.
I'm sure someone can point to an example, there's always one,
yada, yada, yada,..
but that wouldn't be the prevailing trend, I'm afraid.
If they did, then I certainly agree with you,
that person may be better off quilting..
It keeps getting repeated on these forums,
(the 'I'm quitting if I can't win'),
as if it is a common occurrence,
but I don't really believe it is..
I think most people are comfortable with knowing they won't win
many races, if any... they just want an opportunity to win one...
That becomes much more difficult for them, when the field is stacked,
and there is no other class for them to move down to..
There is a difference. And I think you know that..
But for the record, I agree that people have the right to run whatever
class they want.
But because you have the 'right' to do something,
doesn't always make it 'right'.
(I know, Alan... too long...)
erock1331 10-21-2008, 07:59 PM People wont get any better if they dont race against people that are faster than them!!!.... When did everyone get the BS if i cant win im not racing attitude??? !
Frank, It's the same reason why everybody has to get into the game in a little league baseball game. This is 2008, not 1988, winning is irrelevent anymore. It's all about nobody wanting to hurt anybody's feelings.
Man I miss 1988.....lol
Alan Behler 10-21-2008, 07:59 PM Lol!!!!
Bill Johnson 10-21-2008, 08:18 PM bill, you dance??:freak:
Apparently, according to Hanson, with his wife....:freak:

Bill, Congradulation on your win...
mr_meat68 10-21-2008, 09:24 PM if i recall correctly....
i got flamed by some of you guys for saying NOT to make 17.5 the beginner class when the ORL was supposed to be taken over. i don't know what happened to that idea. it seems 17.5 is bigger than 13.5 now.
if you ever see me laughing for no reason at all it's because that crossed my mind.

Racer 06082 10-21-2008, 10:07 PM FRANKLIN!!!
"He was even polite enough to pull off halfway through the main @ the NEOT race…but I guess he got his dose of A-Main racing for the first time. Way to go"
Actually his car had a locked up bearing... so rather wreck in front of the field he did pull off.
Franklin :thumbsup::thumbsup: Great job! Ill bet it was the side shocks.

Porksalot4L 10-21-2008, 10:14 PM i will admit i am a Pro and shouldnt of ran in the 17.5 lol :) j/k im not a PROOOOOOOOOOOO
TBRC3 10-21-2008, 10:30 PM ok all i been reading this tread and i will have to say i do agree that everyine should be able to race what ever class they want.
I myself am one of the non sponsored racers. I remember my very first 10.5 class i raced in at one of my fav tracks in pa. I found myself in the a main with the likes of Phil Marabella Alan Behler and if they remember which tbrc guy i am they will tell you yes i was way slower then them but i hel my own at tried my best to stay clear of them and if my car handled that bad i would pull it. i finished that race in 5th out of 7 cars
i find running with them make my skills even better
davepull 10-22-2008, 07:52 AM too much hobbytalk and not enough racing!!... its crazy how while im at the track i never hear these unsolvable topics! I feel there should be a class for new people and it should be 17.5 4 cell.

Anytime72 10-22-2008, 10:40 AM man, I miss all the fun at night. I raced 17.5 at that Race. It's only the second time running it. Race 1 and race 2. I put no effort in it at race 1 borrowed a car and motor. Race 2 I used my other 13.5 car and a new motor. If was 40 bucks for 2 classes so why not. I won't race it on a weekly basis, but at a larger race why not since they were the only 2 classes for pan cars and both had good turnouts. On a weekly basis the newbie/rookie can have it but like someone said the NEOT brings a big prize at the end of the series and I don't see newbies/beginners traveling to these events. Dave why didn't you say this to some of the guys this past weekend? If Franklin wanted to run 13.5 he could have, he's been doing real well this year and has had great help from the pros. We need to race during the week as well as the weekend so this type of post don't appear on the weekdays.
someone please shoot this thread
Why?
the title was "pros in 17.5"
That is what it's about...
When I see threads about stuff I'm not really interested in,
I just don't open them up....
It isn't like the discussion drifted off on a
'wing vs. no wing' thread.........
TomHargrave 10-22-2008, 01:18 PM no wing
"Frank Ulbrik" 10-22-2008, 01:35 PM wing! lol
brian0525 10-22-2008, 01:40 PM I 2nd the wing!!
dr voodoo 2 10-22-2008, 02:01 PM wing only way to go
Racin'Jason 8 10-22-2008, 02:35 PM Now this thread is fun...no wing!
killerkoncepts 10-22-2008, 02:39 PM 17.5 4 cell no wing! everything else WING!
Mr.fastman 10-22-2008, 03:14 PM WING???? are we racing planes?
