Is anyone have a repair for the wing mounts on the COT bodies , they seem to crack where the mount hooks to the body . Thanks for any info .

Here's what we have found as the best way to mount the wing. Take your darkside style wing mounts (the strips of graphite used to mount the wing to the rear window) and attach them to the deck lid. Use wing buttons on the wing, and the wire to mount the wing. you can get the wing right where itss designed to be and have the ability to move it back and forth a little bit. We havent been using the small piece of wire to connect the two buttons so if you back it into the wall it pushed the wing to one side but it doesnt hurt the wing nearly as much.

Are you using the STOCK wing with the KIT?

HPI makes a plastic molded wing that is SWEET on the McAllister body

Part number I believe is 85197 and there are 2 different wings in the kit.

we are triing to keep it a spec class so wing is mounted in stock location with no mods or adjusting

Hey Neil, can you order a few of those HPI kits?

The other thing I've seen Gary recommend is to use a NON-MOLDED piece of Lexan for the mount.

Use the ORIGINAL Mount as a template on a piece of .030 lexan, and it will be more durable.

is the HPI kit adjustable or is it a fixed position wing. When you guys are using the COT body is it for a spec racing or in normal races??

Most places running the COTs are doing them in their own class.

The characteristics of that body don't let it handle the same as the old bodies.

The HPI wing is pretty fixed, I believe in the kit are a couple of angle shims to slightly change the angle... I'm not running one. (I actually use a Protoform TOURING wing on the COTs I have. They came from a truck body and have they have the mounting stands molded into the bottom of the wing...so I just fastened that to the deck lid area)

But for the price, I'll be using the HPI wings in the future if WE can get this class to kick.

neil. if the HPI wing is a fixed mount, i dont think that the angle shims will make a difference with how short the track is. now i know i havent raced in over a year and have never touched a COT body, but just by looking at it, it probably wont make a difference

Neil, those HPI wings look like they might be an option. What do you think?

talked to dan and we aggreed that if the stock mounts don't hold up we will go with mounting wing to trunk, i'm going to make up some ones with thin metal and see how that works. Nothing wrong with the HPI mount but the class was to keep the cost down.
