Indoor carpet oval (60'x33'), trucks, and road course racing for 1/10th, 1/12th, and 1/18th scales. Rochester is home of some of the fastest oval racers. You might recognize some of the names on our track records (http://www.rcpoints.com/) web site.

Bandit RC Race Park (http://www.hobbytalk.com/bbs1/showthread.php?t=198892) recently closed and East Ridge RC Raceway is our new home. Great lighting, heating, pit areas, carpet went down very nicely, more visible location and a ton of nearby restaurants to choose from. The new location also looks very promising for a long term track home. Recently joined by the fast growing truck and onroad racers, this is a fresh new chapter for Rochester RC racing.

The October 15th club meeting went very smoothly today. Here are the results of the meeting:

Please park away from the BlockBuster parking lot. (East side of the parking lot). You can also park around back, as there is a ton of room back there, with lighting.
He will be installing fire extinguishers for us soon. He is not requiring us to use LipoSacks.
Rent has already begun, and he's billing us $500 for October.
He's working with his electricians and RGE to get all of our power under one circuit breaker panel so we can establish our own RGE account for electric and heating.
He will be working with us for setting up our own sign out front.
Keys will be distributed to key personnel shortly.
The entire building is non-smoking. Smoking must be done out back. No propping the door open and smoking in the doorframe.


Track name was decided to be called "East Ridge RC Raceway".

Treasurer: Daryl B.Lew asked to step down as Treasurer. After the meeting, Daryl offered to take the position and steps have been taken to make that happen. Thank you Daryl.

LipoSack is highly recommend but will not be required. We will have metal sandboxes in place around the track in the event of a battery catching fire. The landlord will be providing fire extinguishers as well. We will try to get some LipoSacks (regular and large) for testing/purchasing at the track.

1/10th Pro Stock

Novak 13.5/4-Cell and Novak 21.5/Lipo will run together.
Lipo batteries will be 5000 mAh (or less) and must be ROAR approved. (http://www.roarracing.com/approvals/lipobattery.php)
Weight: Car with transponder and sub-c NiMH or Lipo 3200 mAh (or less): 40oz
Weight: Car with transponder and Lipo 3201 mAh - 5000 mAh: 41oz1/18th Sliders
This class will be removed from the "box stock" status. Everything remains the same except 4 new modifications will be allowed:

Aftermarket shocks allowed.
Aftermarket electrical connectors allowed.
Foam tires allowed.
Ball differential allowed.The above items were just the issues/changes discussed in the meeting. The entire list of class rules will be updated this week.

Who's planning to run for 21.5 LiPo this Saturday? I plan on it, but dont think ill receive my 21.5 in the mail by then...

Concerning the 10th pan oval Pro Stock class...
Ever since I've been with the club, the class rules for the Pro Stock class has stated:

PRO STOCK
A. DRIVERS: Drivers in this division are moved up from the Intermediate (stock) class, after maintaining a consistent driving ability and lap count.

I think it's time to enforce this. Just because a racer buys a fast motor, it does not automatically qualify him to race this faster class.

This comes to mind now is for two reasons. Last year, we were reminded of the purpose for this rule as we remember a racer that was consistently 6-10 laps off of the pace. Secondly, Lipo offers an added convenience. This may draw even more racers to the Pro Stock class who simply want the Lipo convenience factor, but don't want to put in the time/effort/testing necessary to run in this faster class.

At this time, there is no Lipo stock equivalent option to match 4-cell NiMH speeds. Possibly by next points series. Maybe with the SMC's new single cell 3.7V lipo.

I don't think we need to set the bar too high, but I think common sense dictates that it should be high enough to make sure the Pro Stock drivers don't have to lap someone 6-10 times in a given heat or race. You should be doing well in the Stock class before considering racing Pro Stock.

I propose that we should do one of two options.
Option #1. After a few weeks of racing, we should have enough information to set a minimum lap requirement to run in the Pro Stock class. Period.
Option #2. Racers can qualify and race against other racers of like speed providing there are 3 or more racers. Like speed = a maximum difference of 6 laps (for example).

Option #2 allows for a group of slower racers to run together in the Pro Stock class. Although this offers benefits, it does have two drawbacks. First, you need at least 2 other slower racers to run against in the heats and Mains. Secondly, you may get bumped down a Main or not be able to run in the Mains at all depending on how the qualifications go.

Thoughts?

Well I hope it doesn't keep me out of Pro Stock. I have 2 4 cell packs left with no intention of buying more. Lipo is the main reason I'd like to move up. This would also allow me a chance to run the same exact car (besides a gear change) at 2 tracks. I guess you guys will have to decide it for me. Hopefully I can have a good run or 2 in 13.5 next week.... if I'm allowed?

i believe i would qualify in the "Slower than the other guys" catagory, are there usually a few ppl in this class at least?? i plan on comming up a few times, but id hate to drive 90+minutes to not get into any main...

James are we racing saturday? i think we can get it ready in time if we start early enough! and i might be racing 13.5 but it would be 4 cell and i agree with this if you dont prove your self in this you should be asked to move down. and u can trade ur motor for a 17.5 easily for no aditional cost.

James, the situation with the 21.5/lipo, as you stated, could be a problem. If I remember correctly, last year there were really 2 different levels of 13.5 cars. Most of the time, they conveniently were seperated between the faster and slower cars. Like John said, I hate to be collected..... or collect the slower cars, because I know they are generally trying their best to race with the faster cars while staying out of the way. Also, I'd hate to lose any racers that want to move to lipo because of all of the reasons that I have made the move over the past year. That said, there has to be a certain level of performance to run in this class. Does it make any sense to make a "super stock" class that is the slower 21.5/lipo guys? I know, the last thing we need is another class. But, I'm not sure what else to do? Thoughts?

If LOTS of Pro Stock racers jump on board, it makes things MUCH easier as the speeds are better matched and having an A,B,C Main solves the problem. What we ran into last year, was only 1/3 of the pan cars ran the faster class. When you have less than 6-7 Pro Stock racers on a given night, it's gets real tricky to set up the heats and mains. (Sometimes 5 top end racers would show, and 1 that was way off the pace.)

Let's just hope for a LOT of racers running both Stock and Pro Stock :)

I say just wait and see how many people actually take to the class. I think it is better to let people run and have fun in a strong class with many racers than to finely divide racers in to small classes where they feel segregated from the rest.

I was in Performance Hobbies on Sunday and saw a LiPo saddle pack in the case for sale. IF the level of racer participation warrants a separate brushless class then I propose it use 1 cell of a saddle pack and the appropriate motor so it would come out some where like 4cell 27turn used to be. Additionally the racer hasnt purchased "specialized" batteries to run this class because to change to a different class they need only to use both cells of the pack and it would be like any other 2cell.

If anyone volunteers tonight or contacts me for Friday, then yes, I think we can race Saturday (or have open practice).

At a bare minimum, we need:

The infield adjusted to the proper length
Back wall made (cut down from some of our tall walls).
The track needs a vacuum too.
Cutting the new ice <-- I plan to do this tonight
Hooking up the loop again <-- I plan to do this tonight

Less immediate, but still needed:

Tables and chairs set up.
Pit areas swept / vacuumed
Electrical cords strategically placed and taped down
Bathrooms cleaned (previous construction workers left a mess)
A couple of florescent light bulbs replaced
Track corner seats finishedCan anyone come tonight?

Do you Rochester guys run anything besides pancars?

We are from the sticks out here in WNY and we run stuff like Stock Truck (Slammed T4`s and such with foam tires) and Touring Ovals. EDM`s too.

We might jumpstart our rusted out F150`s and make a roadtrip out there sometime when you guys get up and running.

mondays is truck offroad and if there is 3 or more trucks/touring cars they run on wensdays and saturdays

I can be there at noon to open up. The vacuum at the track sucks. (well... it doesn't suck enough). We can use it for the perimiter, but it's not doing a good enough job on the track. I'll bring my ShopVac with modified attachment.

We also could use a circular saw and tools to cut down the tall walls to make a short wall for the north side of the track. So bringing tools for that would be great!

Brandon, John, Daryl, and I did some more work today, including some serious vacuuming. They all brought their cars to enjoy the track after the volunteering work was done. By the end of the night, John did 72 laps 4:03.

Brian D. and I are going to the track tomorrow afternoon somewhere between 1:30 and 2:00. If anyone wants to bring their cars, the oval track is still set up. I don't know how many hours we'll be there. Feel free to join us. I think it's high time I get my car on the track as well, to enjoy our efforts.

If anyone has a mop, or a sponge mop, please bring it. The tiles have a layer of fine dirt on it that is still tracking on the track. We just need to cut down one more tall wall and we'll have the back wall finished. So if anyone is up for that, let us know.

Fridge still needs to get moved from Bandit to our new track. Mike (the building owner) is working on getting the outlets on the west wall fixed. Tomorrow, Brian and I are going to look at the 3 non-working lights to determine if it's the bulb or ballast.

I took my car to the track tonight. Wow, that is a lot of fun! The corners are smoother than Bandit, and the car just comes right around, almost effortlessly and silently. I don't know how to describe it other than "smooth". There are some average bumps in the straights, but both corners are exceptionally smooth so far. I did not feel any bumps at either corner. It was consistent and very enjoyable.

The same Bandit setup worked very well. I didn't have to change a thing to get the car to drive like that. I'm really quite surprised at how fast we are getting traction in the corners already. I'm looking forward to Wednesday's race night.

We did some testing with the lighting, and it looks like the lights just need new bulbs (4 foot T12 40 Watts). The ballasts seem to be ok. We found that there are many with only 2 of 4 bulbs running, so it's going to be easy to brighten things up even more. Brian D. offered to pick up some. If anyone else wants to pick some up, that would be good. I didn't count but I would guess we could probably use 20-40 bulbs. If you do get some, make sure to get the 40 Watt version. We also talked with Mike and he's going to work on the west wall outlets right away. He's also going to let us store our extra stuff downstairs. Nice!

More good news, Wigberto offered to loan us as many tables and chairs that we need! All we need to do is coordinate with him to go get them.

Did anybody check to see if the bulbs on the floor,in the northeast corner of the building,are any good? I saw them behind the desk,after I cleaned the "disgusting bathroom".

No problem bringing your own table. it just has to be in a lipo sack. They make one big enough to put your entire pit in now. :p

a great night of racing for the 1st week of the club oval series. The track is really nice, plenty of racing room. I hope the club regulars, past and present blow the dust off of their stuff and come racing again.

yes it was a great night and a good race night. 2nd in Bmain not bad for me since i stoped racing. but the club when it gets money should get a camera and a tv and record the racing so that the people can watch the racing while working on there car

Someone mentioned something about a baby cam that has a free website which streams the feed.

all u need is a web cam and a tv hook the tv up to the computer(so its the screen for the computer) and use the web cam web cams are 20+

having an embeded player on a web page would be sweet

the club needs to build back it's reserves. They are kinda broke. I'd expect that they will be saving for new carpet for the expected move down to the lower level sometime next season.
