1971...9th grade..the Doors..Bell Bottoms & long hair...& HO !!
I decided to build my own racing stocker using parts from Auto World (Kovelski era ).The body is a clear "Charger Daytona" I believe clip mounted on a drilled out T-Jet 500 chassis with AJ's aluminum wheels & other special Hop-up parts.I think the decals are orginal AW too. I remember using a special "Fuel proof dope" yellow paint made for remote control airplanes that I found at the time was the only thing that really adhered to the clear body & not crack off.I think that 37+years are more than enough to demonstrate the correctness of my idea !
I remember that I did run a few races with my friends with this car.
I recently cleaned & lubed it up & It ran OK until the armature gear let go !

Nice time capsule, Neal. Now Im completely mesmerized by those wheels. mag style, and in aluminum--thats awesome! Are they cast/machined this way, or did you just hack up some AFX 5-spokes and use them for hubcaps for the effect?

They are actually stickers that are inserted into the AJ's wheel. Their origins are lost in the sands of time. Perhaps somebody can help ?

ah, I see. I was hoping they were cast that way

Jeeper,

They are the granddaddy to todays wheel inserts. You'll see them occasionally on the bay. Either on a sheet out right for sale... or cut up nibblets in pitkits scrammbled amongst the tattered decals.

They look like little black flowers on a clear transparency. I have a vague memory of someone re-poping them....but ya know how that is....might just be wishful thinking on my part or an out and out brain fart.

Way to set the "waaaay back" machine, Neal! I bet the car still smelled like that ol red racing oil. Thank you for sharing a very cool set of memories!

Too cool!!! When did long hair go out of style??? Nobody ever told me!!! It's a bummer for me though... All my long agos are far away..1280 miles away to be exact!!! I just hope my pit kit isn't full of melted blobs by the time I get back to FLA to rescue them!! They've been sitting in a storage unit since 2004... Thanks for the trip down memory lane!!
