View Full Version : Losi Mini Late Model: My shocks suck!

I went for the Losi aluminium shock upgrade on my Late Model. They suck. After I build them they're smooth as silk, but just hours after, I play with them a little and they're full of air bubbles. I've tried 1 seal, 2 seals, 3 seals, no seals, always the same result. Am I doing something wrong here? Are there better shocks out there that fit the Late Model?

how are you bleeding them? i've had pretty good luck with the little hole in the top.

You're talking about the plastic ones? I'm talking about the aluminium ones Losi sells as an upgrade.

I tried the new threaded aluminum late model shocks. Have leaks no matter what number of seals I use. That is probably where the air is coming from in yours. I used Integy on my Slider and never have had a leak. They are as smooth as the day I first built them. Excellent product that works.

Thanks I'll look that up.

Edit: I just went on Integy's site. They sell shocks for the Mini-t's which come in 2 lenghts, one lenght for front and another one for rear. Which ones do I use, the fronts or the rears? Cause the shocks on the Late are all the same lenght.

I don't have any stops inside my shocks and I measured the Integys I have on the Slider and Losi threaded aluminum on my Late Model and they appear to be a match front to front and rear to rear.

If you have a local hobby shop, you might check. The Hobby Town in Indy has them on the wall.

i would buy the shorter of the two lengths to get the center of gravity down lower myself.

You're right, guy.

I compared the length of the shocks on my late and they're equivalent to the one on the front end of a slider. So I'll go for the front ones.

Well, I was just about to order the Integy shocks when a fellow racer gave me a trick for my losi shocks to try. He threaded his shock caps with teflon tape and seemed to have good results doing that. So I did the same on mine and I'll see how they hold up. Usually when I rebuilt them, the next morning the shocks were full of air just from sitting on the bench. I rebuilt the shocks last night using the teflon tape and this morning I tested them and they feel just like new. I hope they hold up until race day Friday. If that can save me another 40$ expense I'll be really happy.

Stay tuned.

I just saved 40$ and I didn't even have to switch to Geico! Teflon tape on the shock caps WORK!

Wrap the threads on the caps with Teflon, fill the shock up above the threads in the cylinder, tighten the cap a 1/4 or a 1/2 turn, then push the shaft all the way down to where the shock will normally travel. Then tighten slowly, pushing the shaft back down every now and then if it comes back up while you tighten. Voilą, you're ready to go.

Odd, I build them the same way I do my pan car shocks and have had no issues...
