Just and update for those thinking about racing at Allen's this winter.

First off, there will be a non-points Oval race on October 26th. Track opens at 9:00am and racing willbe at 1:00pm. Should be a good time for the BRL guys to get ready for first BRL race the following week. All classes listed below will be run.

The planned classes for the indoor winter season are as follows:

-13.5 non wing Sprint Car (CW rubber tires)
-13.5 Latemodel (CW rubber tires, rules same as Central Illinois Dirt Oval series with the exceptions as listed below the class list)
-Losi 1/18th Slider (rules below)
-Losi 1/18th Latemodel (rules below)
-Losi 1/10th Slider (out of box stock, DirtOval.com Rules)
-any BRL Pan-Car class (I think 17.5 and the Li-Po classes will be the biggest)

1/18th Slider & Latemodel Rules
Stock motor and ESC. Aftermarket Radio and servo as well as aftermarket shocks may be used. The basic car/chassis parts and design must remain unaltered from factory. Must also use the ttock Tires, Wheels, and Inserts.

13.5 Latemodel Exceptions
The 13.5 Latemodel class will be run same as the 2008 Central Illinois Dirt Oval series with the following exceptions: 1) Additional approved bodies from the National DirtOval.com rules will be allowed as well as a minimum ride height and body height (yet to be determined) will be imposed. 2) The DODC spec 13.5 motor will also be allowed in addition to the 13.5 Novak motor.

Also... Allen's website will undergo some renovations here in the coming week or two. In addition to a new look, class rules will be posted there as well as the winter schedule and weekly race results. The webiste can be found at www.allensrccars.com

Allen is also thinking about doing points this winter. Most likely splitting it up into 2 - 3 seasons depending on how many races can be scheduled. Once he gets his schedule sorted out we'll post details both here and on the website.

If you have any questions, please reply here or give Allen a call (# on website). Should be a fun time this winter! The 13.5 Latemodel and Sprint cars both are fun to drive on the carpet with the Custom Works tires. A lot more traction than we originally thought

We will be up for the 26th. Should be 4-5 from St. Louis for 17.5. Maybe 2-3 for Losi Latemodel too.

Should be a good day of racing this weekend. Sounds like we'll have a little bit of everything. Pan-cars, sliders, losi latemodels, and maybe even a few 13.5 latemodels and a few sprints.

Will we be running 3 heats and a main?
What is the battery limit in the 1/18th scale late model class?
Thanks

Yes it will be either 3 heats and a main or we may try the 3 lap qual and 2 heats and a main format. Depends on what everyone wants to do. I think the plan is to do the 3 lap qual format at least occasionally this winter, especially when we start doing points.

As for the 1/18th batteries, that is a good question. Last year Allen allowed the Associated battery in the Slider class. The Losi battery just didn't perform well or even hold up consistantly throughout a race day. The associated battery was much more consistant and actually a little faster. I will try and get a hold of Allen tonight and find out what he wants to do, but I assume at the very least the Associated battery will be allowed (not sure, so don't hold me to it).

1/18th Latemodel class may be bigger than I thought this weekend.

I talked to Allen the other night and I told him we were running any NIMH down here and he even asked about Lipo. I mentioned that this Sunday maybe we could make the rules up for the 1/18 Latemodels.
There wil be 3 Latemodel guys with me and I talked to Qmouse and it sounded like maybe 3-4 coming from Maryville.

Yea I figured thats what you guys were running. Sounds good to me. I think we'll be working on rules for most if not all the classes on Sunday. The last time I talked to Allen about this winter we had just hashed out what classes that would be run, and not necessarily the rules other than trying to keep them reasonably stock/affordable.

Sounds to me like the 1/18 LM class could have as many as 8 - 10 this Sunday. That would be cool.

Some really good racing yesterday. The 18th latemodel class looks like it will be a good one. Already had 7 show up for the first race of the year and we know of several others that will be racing next time. We'll finalize the rules and get them posted within the next few weeks.

Congrats Steve and Kevin on their wins and to Jeremiah for winning the pan-car B main with a car bought the same day.

Mike, I let Allen know and he was going to think about it.

Just so everyone knows, Allen is racing this Sunday November 9th. Practice @ 9:00am and Racing at 1:00pm.

Just an update on the 18th LM rules: Any NiMH up to 1600 will be allowed. I believe most guys were running Duratraxx batteries last time. Allen should have them in stock this weekend. Aftermarket shocks & springs will be allowed. I've been told 3S Racing shocks are good. A ball diff MIGHT also be allowed, but we will have to confirm with Allen about this and possibly research it more this weekend. Radio and servo can also be changed. Everything else must remain stock. Allen is also looking into possibly allowing Dean's connectors. This class looks to be big this winter, but the goal is to keep it as affordable (stock) as possible.

Also note that if you have kids or a wife/girlfriend or anyone new that wants to join in, there will be an 18th scale "Sportsman" class for them to participate in. Pretty much any 18th scale will be accepted since it is a beginner/fun class. Will be a good class for beginners and kids to get into the hobby and have fun.

Classes

18th Losi Latemodel
18th Losi Slider
17.5 BRL pan-car
1/10 13.5 Latemodel
1/10 13.5 Sprintcar (non-wing)

Hope to see everyone there this weekend! Might be one of the last or possibly the last race before we do points.

More than likely they will be legal. I just didn't want to say they were before Allen put some thought into it and actually said yes. The other stuff made legal I know he approved. We have only had one day of racing with them here so there isn't much to go on yet.

Based from what I've heard, sounds like there will be a good turnout this Sunday. Possibly multiple heats of 18th Latemodel and Sliders!

Great racing again yesterday! Both the 17.5 Pan-car class as well as the Losi 18th Latemodel classes were very exciting, particularly the A main of the pan-car class. The excitement started with Bob Williams driving from the 4th qual spot to 2nd and matching Klyber lap for lap virtually the whole race.

The race got really exciting the last few laps when Dan Mickle caught Mike Kelm for 3rd. Dan made a move under Mike on the last lap off turn 2 and they both tangled into the inside pipe. We all thought whoever got marshalled first would take the spot but Dan got turned around backwards, and by the time he got going straight again Mike had been marshalled and they raced into turn 3. Mike caught the inside "ice" and it allowed Dan to make a run with both dragracing to the line. Mike just edged Dan out for the spot as they tangled again right at the scoring loop.

The competition in the 18th Latemodel class was also really good. The top 5 in qualifying turning within a tenth of a second on fastest lap made for an exciting A main. To make it even more exciting, Allen called for an invert from qualifying. This put Steve Quartermouse (TQ) in the back and Andrew Kelm on pole. However, Doug Canham from his 3rd starting spot survived the early carnage and brought home the win after buying the car the same day. Worth noting: the top 2 (maybe even top 3?) were bone stock cars with the exception of moving shock spacers around and using a 1400 battery. Allen sold about another half a dozen (not exaggerated) latemodels this weekend so the class is growing quite rapidly and should have another nice field next weekend.

Updated rules on the 18th Latemodel and Slider classes have been posted on the website which can be found at www.allensrccars.com

What an awesome day of racing at Allen's this Sunday. Total of 25 cars not counting the handfull of kids that ran between rounds. And better yet... 16 entries in 1/18 Losi Latemodels!

Congrats to Sonny Brown on the win in the 18th Losi Latemodel class and to Rod Galloway for the win in the 17.5 Pan-car class.

In Latemodels, Sonny took the TQ after three rounds of heats. A pill draw determined how many (if any) would be inverted for the main. The top 3 were inverted giving Jim McGuire the pole and pushing Sonny back to 3rd. Sonny took all of 4 feet to retake the lead and led wire-to-wire to pull off an impressive win over Steve Quartermouse, Scott Lucas, Jeff Taft, and Jim McGuire rounding out the top 5. Chris Shearburn would be able to take "Top Minion" honors by winning the B main.

Once again the 17.5 pan-car class was just as exciting as ever. Rod Galloway took the TQ but it was Kevin Klyber getting off to an early lead. However, midway through the race Galloway proved to be a little too much for Klyber to handle and would be able to retake the lead and pull out to a .665 second lead by the end of the race. But it was Dan "Showtime" Mickle and Tony Mitchell who stole the show while battling it out for 3rd. Tony looked to have a solid handle on the third spot midway through the race. However, just like last week against Mike Kelm; Dan made a late race charge but this time made the move off turn 4 coming to the line and beat out Tony for 3rd by just .009 of a second. (for the record guys, the race did end when you were side by side, the computer was just a little behind on telling us the race was over) in the B-main Koko and Dave Bertetto kept it close all race long but Koko would come out on top by just 1.6 seconds.

Great racing once again and an impressive 16 entries in the 18th Losi Latemodel class in just three weeks!! WHEW!

Just a few updates:

The Losi Slider and Latemodel rules have been updated. Most noteable was the battery rule being changed from 1600 max to 1400 max. Also, any Mini-T (aftermarket) ball-differential is allowed. This was the original intent of the rule, but wording was a little misleading and has now been corrected.
Allen will probably hold one or two more non-points races before starting into the first of two point series for the winter seasons. Look for the first point series to start late November / early December and run for roughly 8 - 10 weeks.

Hope to see everyone out for the next race. There is a racing planned again for this coming Sunday, November 23rd. Should be another good time!

Suppose to be. Will have to confirm with Allen in a day or two. He was suppose to have (minor?) surgery early this week and he claims he should be back to 100% by the end of the week.

Basically, when I talked to him this past Sunday after the races, he was planning on running again this coming Sunday assuming everything goes ok.

Good news is that Allen's surgery went well and he is recovering just fine. Doctor told him to take it easy for a few days but he should be just fine by Sunday. There will be racing this Sunday, November 23rd. Practice: 9am, Racing: 1pm.

Yes, another great day of racing at Allen's. The Losi Latemodel class just keeps growing and growing, and the racing has been extremely close so far.

The results from this weekend have been posted, along with the TENTATIVE point series schedule for the winter season. More details on the point series will be posted later this week. www.allensrccars.com

As far as I know there won't be any rule changes for next weekend. I may, however, rewrite some of it so it is a little more clear and to hopefully minimize any grey areas or confusion. One thing that isn't in there that will be soon is adjustable turn-buckles are allowed for those who wish to use them.

If you have any questions about any of the rules you can ask either Allen or myself, and if I don't know the answer, I'll ask Allen for you :p There will be tech during the first points race next week, so its a good idea to make sure on something if you're unclear about it.

Hope to see everyone again next weekend! First race of the point series, and it sounds like it will be another BIG crowd!

Unfortunately, no. Someone had one out and ran some laps a few weeks ago, but so far there hasn't been enough at one time to run a class of them. As with any other car, 3 or more and they can run, but so far there hasn't been nearly as much interest in those for the carpet as there has been for the 1/18 latemodel.

No. Here is a link to the results from the past few weeks: http://www.allensrccars.com/results.php

The biggest class has been Losi 18th scale Latemodel and the next biggest is 17.5 pan-car. Occassionally we get some 18th Sliders, but pretty much Latemodels and pan-cars have had the numbers so far.

If you're planning on buying a car to run, I would recommend the Losi Latemodel as it seems to be rapidly growing so far, at least at Allen's. Without much work the car can be made to be competitive right out of the box.

Ok guys... as we get closer to the first points race of the season, there are a few reminders and a few rule updates for the Latemodels.

First off, straight from the boss man himself are a few rule updates. I have marked the new rules on the website, but I will post them here as well. Several rules were also rewritten slightly to hopefully make a little more clear and to remove any grey area. They weren't marked since the rules are the same, but just a heads up anyway. Now for the new rules:

If needed, any additional lead(ballast) must be added within the center battery section of the chassis only (top deck is fine). Hanging additional ballast outside of the main chassis or on the left battery tray is not allowed.
All electronics (battery included) must be mounted within the main chassis area. Additional trays made of any material for the purpose of mounting any additional ballast or electronics is not allowed.
Adjustable turn-buckles are allowed.
Top shaft and idler gear must be factory stock and unaltered.
Additional fans, heat-sinks, or motor coolies for the motor or ESC is not allowed.
Adding extra fins, spoilers, belly-pans, side dams or any other additional aero devices to the car or body is not allowed.
Windows in body must remain intact and unaltered.

Some form of tech will be performed throughout the day on all point series weekends. A tech table will be set up so that once your race is done you can set your car on the tech table and go out to marshall then pick your car up once you are done marshalling.

For the complete set of rules you can visit the website at www.allensrccars.com

Now, as everyone knows, this weekend in the first race of the point series. A tentative schedule has been posted on the website. The point series has been split into two seasons with 8 weeks each. We will count the best 7 of 8 weeks towards your point total. The schedule is subject to change at anytime, so be sure to check the website or call Allen to confirm that we are racing on a particular weekend.

Just a heads up, we will only keep track of points this season for classes that have 3 or more this weekend. So far we have only had 18th Sportsman, Losi Latemodel, and 17.5 pan-car with any interest. 18th Sportsman is a non-points participation class only. Any prizes or awards that may be given in this class will be awarded based on participation. Other classes will run for points like normal.

For the month of November we had over 30 different Losi Latemodels run at least one race! Allen continues to sell out of these cars each week, so interest continues to grow. This winter is shaping up to be extremely fun and competitive.

Remember, racing this Sunday, November 7th!
Practice: 9am

Hope to see everyone there!
