cneyedog 10-12-2008, 04:36 PM Hey, seeing as how there is a new thread for Fantom. I ran 17.5 Lipo for the first time this past weekend. I purchased one of your 17.5 Motors and was very pleased with its performance. As a matter of fact the top 3 qualifiers all used the Fantom 17.5 @ my home track here in Florida, Strickland R/C Park.

67-4-fun 10-12-2008, 04:59 PM good deal cneyedog!!! glad it worked great!!! I'm running a 17.5 and 13.5 motors in our rubbertire nastruck class using touring car chassis with a Fantom Lipo, Motors defiantly have alot of top end power!!
katf1sh 10-13-2008, 12:03 AM excuse me! mine was a EA product! same motor (fegaio/trinity) they run awesome!
get one now if you can!
ScottH 10-13-2008, 12:12 AM What a brushless motor dyno?
It was only a matter of time.
royz400 10-13-2008, 08:30 PM From what I've seen 67-4-fun. The 17.5 that your running is very impressive.
Hudson Hornet ! 10-14-2008, 08:24 AM I will be running a fantom 17.5 in 12th scale oval with a 2400 lipo. our runline is 74 ft. ! what gear should I throw on this thing to get me in the ballpark?
67-4-fun 10-14-2008, 05:06 PM I will be running a fantom 17.5 in 12th scale oval with a 2400 lipo. our runline is 74 ft. ! what gear should I throw on this thing to get me in the ballpark?
what's your tire size?? and I might give you a good starting point.. I run on a track with a 100ft run line, so I may beable to get you in the right direction, hopfully:thumbsup:
Hudson Hornet ! 10-15-2008, 11:24 AM I don't know the tire size, but the tires are new, not trued. hope this helps
67-4-fun 10-15-2008, 06:36 PM going by a 1.800 tires size, I would start at a 90 spur 32pinion that will give you a 2.01 rollout to start. turn the timing to 20deg and start there, check the motor temp after a run, I would not let the temp get temp over 160deg, sum go to much as 180, but on that samll of a track you may not see temps above 120.. hope this helps
Hudson Hornet ! 10-16-2008, 09:45 AM thank you, it helps alot!
67-4-fun 10-16-2008, 12:06 PM thank you, it helps alot!
anytime!!
67-4-fun 10-18-2008, 07:45 PM will be running a 17.5 rubbertire nastruck this weekend against some novaks, in testing 17.5 very impressive so far!!! has alot of punch out of the corners:thumbsup:
royz400 10-25-2008, 06:46 PM Got my fantom 3800 lipo today and Iam 100% pleased with it. I think it's the best on the market. Hats off to Jeff at Fantom Racing for having the best stuff out there. :)
racerj3 10-25-2008, 07:01 PM Is there a chart somewhere either here on hobbytalk or on fantoms website that has the kv ratings and the inductance #'s for the brushless motors? I am looking for the kv ratings on the 10.5 and the inductance numbers so that when the tech tests these motors they know where the numbers need to be.
royz400 10-25-2008, 08:56 PM ..Iam not sure
67-4-fun 10-26-2008, 12:28 AM the KV rating's on the Fantoms are similar to others.
10.5 4,200 rpm per volt
13.5 3,300 rpm per volt
17.5 2,200 rpm per volt
depending if running lipo 7.4v or 4 cell nimh 5v just take the rpm per volt x the voltage of the battery of your choice. example{ 10.5 motor 4,200 x 7.4v lipo = 31,080 rpm} this eqasion may not be exact, but it will get you in the ball park.... hope this helps
PANCAR17R 10-26-2008, 03:27 PM Wondering if anyone has tried turning motor timing down and running higher roll out to make the car more efficient throughout the run?
sportpak 11-01-2008, 06:53 PM Hey guys, I just ordered the 17.5 to run in some 12th scale. I've always wanted to try some Fantom stuff, so I've finally joined the club. Sorry I don't do too much oval, but maybe I can help add some to conversation once I get to use it.

Rocketman 11-15-2008, 04:57 PM just got a new fantom 13.5 motor can someone tellme how to advance the timing i know the instructions say to loosen the 3 screws and turn it are the screws suppose to go back in the same holes or are they suppose to be in new holes thanks
67-4-fun 11-15-2008, 05:13 PM just got a new fantom 13.5 motor can someone tellme how to advance the timing i know the instructions say to loosen the 3 screws and turn it are the screws suppose to go back in the same holes or are they suppose to be in new holes thanksyour screws should go into the hole to what you want the timing to be. example if you wanted to go from 0 deg timing to 10deg timing, you would losen up the three screws then turn the back enbell counter clockwise, eline the screws up with the 10 deg timing mark then tighten, the same for 20 deg, hint: do not over tighten the screws, just snug them up with a little tighness, that way it does not sqeeze on the arm to much so that it will not bind

Rocketman 11-15-2008, 10:43 PM thanks for your help jp going to try it in 2 weeks at summitt in the 13.5 sprint car class i'll let you know how it works out

casper60 11-18-2008, 01:40 AM Hey guys,
Has anyone been running the 4600's from Fantom? I get packs from someone else but haven't been too thrilled with the output lately. Last two rounds of packs he's sent me just don't seem to be as good as what I used to get. I'm looking for something else to run, but If I'm paying for them, I want to know I'm getting good stuff... lol
I'm debating on getting a couple motors too, I just have to make sure my tracks will allow something other than the silver stuff.

I'm debating on getting a couple motors too, I just have to make sure my tracks will allow something other than the silver stuff.I have never had the chance to use any of the 4600 batteries, I run mostly Lipo, i doubt you can go wrong with his batteries.. The B/L motors are awsome!! I just Tqed and won the main at our toys for tots event race in Terre Haute,In this past weeknd with a 14 class field in rubbertire nastruck, motor's defantly have alot of top end power!!!
airconde 11-18-2008, 01:55 PM You probally just need to run them 3 4 times discharge them bring them back up .you'll probally be ok take a volt meter amake shure you don't have a bad cell.if you do find somebody with a zapper and zapp the bad cell .
casper60 11-18-2008, 02:04 PM You probally just need to run them 3 4 times discharge them bring them back up .you'll probally be ok take a volt meter amake shure you don't have a bad cell.if you do find somebody with a zapper and zapp the bad cell .
no bad cells. The packs are decent, problem is I can run and hide for 2 1/2 minutes then the thing falls on it's face. I can't say I have a problem getting into the A with them, the problem is once i'm there, I'm a sitting duck.
I might pick up a couple Fantom packs and see what I get, of course it all depends on the batch and from what I'm hearing, nothing has been "spectacular" as of late. The motors I'm looking forward to trying as well.
airconde 11-18-2008, 04:24 PM The new cells will have a white ring on the positive end.
there is some really good packs out right know but everybody is hoging them up for Cleveland.
67-4-fun 11-23-2008, 12:29 AM for anybody wanting ceramic bearings for the Ion Fantom motors, these bearings should work, it is the same bearing as the back bearing used in the ss pro novak motors http://www.lefthander-rc.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=40&products_id=1120
67-4-fun 12-02-2008, 02:47 AM Fantom Lipo's are awsome!! here is a resent cycle on an 3800 25c
Sec. 418
AvgV. 7.37

CClay1282 12-09-2008, 01:03 AM Great thread so far JP, lets keep it going.
I cant beleive the cycle numbers you got on that 3800 lipo. Thats pretty darn good for a 25C 3800. The new 35C 3800 should be even better than that.
Now I know how you had so much darn punch at the TFT race. That combo you were running was definately fast. I could barely keep you from puttin me a lap down.
