View Full Version : Unhappy Collector
macnut 10-08-2008, 12:32 AM Hey everyone including the people at Green Light,
I have been a loyal collector of Green Light since the first series of MCG cars. I have all the MCG series, most of the BJ’s , Speed Channel, 2 packs, and promo cars from the different online dealers, like Russ at Milezone Toys. I buy almost all my cars from Russ. He is a dealer I can trust to not tamper with the boxes and gives you a good price. Green Light has became 75% of my collection.
Now on with my rant. I have always bought my master cases from Russ at Milezone Toys. I have always received a Green Machine out of a master case. I know Green Light’s first response is going to be “We don’t guarantee a Green Machine in every master case.” This is the first case that I received that did not have a Green Machine and no Green Light tape. The quality of the cars in this series are not the best they have put out. The Roadrunner looks like a four wheel drive. All the way down to the inner boxes that the cars are packed in is crap. I think Green Light is forgetting about the collector and is thinking about the all mighty dollar. If you look at E-bay most all of the Greens are coming out of Canada. I spend a lot of time, put a lot of miles on my truck, and spend my hard earned money on chasing the Green Machines in the retail stores. I even went all the way from St. Louis, Mo, to The Auto Fest this year for Green Light. Now you are starting to get poor quality cars and most of the Greens are going to Canada. I am very upset on were it looks like Green Light is heading, and I’m sure I’m not the only collector out there that thinks this way. Wal-Mart is going to be one of their down falls. What got this all started is I think if you spend over $200 on a master case you should get a Green Machine. Lets hear what all of the other collectors are thinking.

Avid Green Light collector for now.
kneedeep56 10-08-2008, 01:21 AM I hope I'm not out of line here but...
I think one of the reasons it seems that most of the GMs are
coming out of Canada is the fact that MCG 8 was released in
Canada first, (maybe 2 or 3 weeks before the US release).
I'm guessing the US carded GLs and GMs will even out in the
near future. Depending on amounts released in each country
Also...
Having GL at retail is a brand new experience for us Canucks.
Maybe those WM hoarder/scalpers are flogging more of their
GM finds because the collector base in Canada is very low
and they make better money on eBay or TTP.
Hope this makes some sense to you.
As far as the quality of the product...
I collect GLs and GMs.
I like the product but sometimes the quality and accuracy
of the casting seems a bit goofy to me.
Some are drop dead gorgeous - others should have remained
on the drawing board until it was done right.
Growing pains of a new company - I like the direction they're
headed in though.
How about some more Nostalgia Drag Racing stuff???
Thanks, Denis
Drdealone 10-08-2008, 05:03 AM Bryan,
Sorry to hear about your issues. When broken down you have many
pain points.
* Not getting a Green from a Master case is a hard thing to swallow.
We all feel for you on that one; BUT you knew that was a possibility
when you purchased the case. Not having the GL tape does not mean
the case was tampered with. Was it sealed? No mention by you of a
retape situation so I guess it was sealed. Maybe GL can comment on
the lack of GL tape. I remember hearing from a dealer that they
purchased 5 Master cases of Corvettes 3 and got no Greens from
3 of them. It happens and that is life. I think the first or last master
cases made do not contain Greens so holding off untill a release has
beeen out a little while may increase your chances of success. But who
wants to wait? Certainly not me.
* The quality issues raised on the packaging are what GL needs to hear.
The will react to your statements. This input needs to continue.
* The WalMart Canada decision does not seem to be leading to a WalMart
U.S. deal so in the big picture it means little and is a win for our friends
from the North. Releases were slow within the last 2 months and they
got that release first. That was nice way to start their program but
remember that they only get MCG, we get all releases.
I hope you keep the faith and stay "Green" as the alternatives are not
that great lately.
Regards, DrDeal
FastC6Vette 10-08-2008, 04:18 PM I am sorry to hear you didn't receive a Green Machine in a master case; if it happened to me, I wouldn't be happy either. However, you took a chance by purchasing a master case because Greenlight states that not every master has a Green Machine. As for quality issues, it usually happens once a fairly new company starts becoming successful and production runs increase. With Mac Ragan on board, I am sure they are aware of the situation and are trying to correct the problem.
The 4x4 look of the Roadrunner/GTX casting is due to the larger rim and tire design. Russ at Milezone always posts pictures of the cars on his website, so I am sure you were able to see that before purchasing a master case. If you bought one just to get a Green Machine, you are probably better off buying the ones you want on eBay instead. Though you may pay $30-60 (depends on the casting), it is still saves you $150 or so and you won't get stuck with regular issues.
macnut 10-08-2008, 06:59 PM I am not stupid enough to order a master case to just get a green, but is an added bonus. I know the tires and rims are to big but it looks like they would be able to see that problem and correct it.
Milezone 10-08-2008, 07:35 PM We actually had 17 cases with no Green Machines, at least we know of 7, the others, not one customer has given us the thumbs up they found a GM. This has not happened since MCG R2. :-(
Not sure what happened with MCG R8, as GL never got back with us on the "reason for no GM's", I was only told it was a different factory?
I hope this is a rare case, and if indead it was a "factory" problem, GL takes the matter and repairs the issue.
Bryan, I sure hope your next cases from us have GM's, as I think all customers that go to the extend to purchase a full master should get a GM. Takes out the fun if not. ;-(

rattlehed 10-08-2008, 08:02 PM You are right about the inner case cardboard, it is recycled junk, this problem should be rectified. It's not funny how producing a larger quantity of a certain release has already led to cutting corners on the packing side of things. I have high expectations for GL and so far they have made a REAL attempt to listen. I have faith it will continue.;)
dipstick 10-08-2008, 08:56 PM No greens in our cases either. At least none we opened and I haven't heard back from our wholesale customers. Was surprised as well at that.
macnut 10-08-2008, 09:59 PM Thanks Russ and Dipstick for stepping up and saying you guys had no greens. It sounds like there could be a little green problem in this release.
robertwadehall 10-08-2008, 11:34 PM I don't really get the point in buying a case..all you do is end up with a bunch of duplicates.
Yenko427 10-09-2008, 01:30 AM Hello...I am new here and it sounds like i did a little better than most. I bought 5 master cases and only hit 2 Green Machines (both Chevelles). The only reason i got 2 is b/c i picked close case numbers on the last 2 cases. I was mad of course...so The Distributer (he shall remain unnamed) opened 4 more to fill his orders and only got 1 Green Machine. So the He called Greenlight to complain...They made him open the remaining 10 cases and only 2 more green machines where found. So 5 out of 19 is not good odds Not the odds advertised either. I hope this is not the direction Greenlight is going. I really like Greenlight and the product. But i am glad i found this post b/c it made me so mad and i finally get to vent for the both of us!
Thanks!
69Stang 10-09-2008, 07:00 AM Hello...I am new here!
Hey Yenko! Welcome aboard!
As you are aware, I don't collect Green's so I have nothing to add to this thread. But I did not want to miss the oppertunity to welcome you and say hello.

astroking2 10-09-2008, 11:49 PM This is all interesting information. I remember back in the day (earlier releases) when there would only be a few master cases (less than 5) that would not have GMs but the rest did.
If this is the way GL is going, then I think they need to reconsider.
pearl 10-10-2008, 04:44 PM Dont know if this means anything to you guys i bought the whole set of cars at walmart when they first arrived in Canada i was there when the girl was putting up the cars there were no dark green cars she put up 18 cars i bought 6..... Yet .i found a white lightning in the same store .
A week later all the cars were gone they put up more i walked in the store looked at the cars the pegs were full no green cars..
I tried 3 other walmarts that day.. Not looking for green light cars another brand that we never see up here and they had stocked them for a change . But all 3 walmarts the pegs were full no green cars so i dont know where they are finding them I also found another white lightning at one of those stores .
The scalpers had not been there yet or the kids that put the cars up that are collectors.
First time i ever found any white lightnings in a year and found another a few days later at another walmart and it looked like they had just put up green light cars the pegs were full.no green cars
So i think they must not have put any green cars in a lot of cases .The guys that have found them must have just had a lucky day even our local scalper whom ive bought a few cars from at his flea market stall has not seen any .he has all the other chase cars. l.o.l. When he cant find them i dont think anyone has a chance in our area l.o.l.
