Seven 09-26-2008, 09:06 AM where's the oval
Same question as Dave????
Maybe they got tired of all the whining and complaining and dropped oval.
ovalguy1 09-26-2008, 09:27 AM Do we really care? We have BRL, Snowbirds, Ovalmasters....
It was to much B$ going on this year.....

thats onroad not oval 2nd from the bottom
Diff Dude 09-26-2008, 10:15 AM My Bad!!
We have run oval there and it was fun. The track had so much bite that we had to switch to a carpet setup.
Dave
MIDWESTRC 09-26-2008, 12:41 PM Maybe all the guys that just sat on Hobbytalk and complained about the ROAR nats this year scared alot of tracks away. Those people should be thanked for their efforts. There are others that do want to go to the paved nats. every year. So maybe those that don't care should just keep their opinions to themselves and let the rest of us enjoy the hobby!!!!!! If you are a real racer, put down the purse and go to the track, if not stay home and quit recking it for everyone else!!!!!!!!!
98Ron 09-26-2008, 01:00 PM Steve, well said!!!!!!
swtour 09-26-2008, 01:03 PM ...hmm,
Some say "Absence Makes the Heart Grow Fonder", maybe a year or two w/o a R.O.A.R. Paved or Carpet OVAL NATS. would shake up the OVAL world....or cause it to go crashing to the ground....but I doubt it.
I can tell you, $$$ vs. the amount of WORK involved for R.O.A.R. to be involved in OVAL Racing - has to be a farily significant LOSS...
really fred 09-26-2008, 01:14 PM they can't figure out how to impound 2.4 transmitters yet
might take another year or two
brian0525 09-26-2008, 01:53 PM Oh well, not a surprise.
EAMotorsports 09-26-2008, 02:19 PM Email your oval committee members...John Foister, Donnie Burnett, Mike Boylan are 3 that I know of.
EA
davepull 09-26-2008, 02:25 PM F that EA Email president@roarracing.com
pmsimkins 09-26-2008, 02:28 PM Personally my opinion is who cares. All it means is that there will be larger fields at the other big oval races which I can actually afford and are scheduled so I don't have to take a half week off work. I see it as a good thing.
RCThunder 09-26-2008, 05:04 PM To be honest I do not have an answer what is going on with the Nats........
Tim Mc 09-26-2008, 06:32 PM If you don't care why comment about it...seriously?
EAMotorsports 09-26-2008, 10:21 PM Also I should clarify that in my post I was not trying to throw any of those guys under the bus. I know they had the same deadline as all the other commitee's to turn in their votes for the Nats and the EXCOM has the final say.
I was just trying to let you all know a few of the higher profile people on the committee that may know what the deal is.
EA
davepull 09-26-2008, 10:28 PM yah sure EA you trouble maker. lol I am sure that there is a logical explanation for no oval races yet. maybe nobody bid on them
MIDWESTRC 09-27-2008, 02:50 PM Do you blame any tracks for not wanting to hold the event. look what happened last year right before Nats. Tons of guys backed out. How do you plan and hold an event if half the drivers that say they are going to come back out at the last minute. I understand that some had personal issues come up and could not get out of them, but most just left Carolina RC complex hanging.
But hopefully the Oval committee will get us an answer soon on what tracks will have the 2 Nats.
davepull 09-27-2008, 05:46 PM According to the ROAR pres the Oval Comittee hasn't may submitted there selections yet. and roar could wait any long to annouce the other ones.
Racin Steve 09-28-2008, 06:25 PM Seems like they are (ROAR) willing to let it die completely then turn around and ask, "Hey guys why aren't you interested in going???" ... of course it'd then be too late.
I used to travel more than 1000 miles for the ROAR Nats, ... now, I'm even not sure I would attend a ROAR event if my local track would hold one.
Steve Salvas.
Benjie Wright 09-29-2008, 02:52 PM Not to worry guys, some of them will get on here shortly and feel us in on why oval is not worth there time. Oh well guess i can spend that week at my local track-oops don't have one of them either, guess i can travel three hours that week and say that i am having fun. Later-Benjie Wright
Craig 10-08-2008, 11:05 AM Wasn't there like only one bid for the 2008 oval nats? So if that track's done it twice in a row, maybe there's no one else that wants to do it. Could be one reason nothing has been posted about oval.
But the question is, why are all the other venues populated and obviously had bids but oval tracks run away from the ROAR Oval opportunity?
Also it looks like people got a bit greedy for 2008 and the cost of the race reflected that and racers responded with their absence.
swtour 10-08-2008, 11:27 AM Craig,
I don't know if I'd call it greedy...but moreso MAKE it PAY FOR ITSELF..if it's gonna happen.
We want to have a NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP race.
We want that race to have some type of credibility, with proper Organization and Officials officiating at the event...
We want ALL that 'stuff' to be in place for 4-5 days, so guys can get plenty of practice, etc.
We DON'T want to 'pre-register' for the event and take advantage of any possible discounts *I don't think R.O.A.R. did a early entry discount, but instead planned on a LATE registration penalty.... (I told Dawn they should FLIP IT..and make it an early entry DISCOUNT)
So, if R.O.A.R. were to send 3 'PAID' officials and crew members to a "NATIONAL EVENT" with only 80-90 entries @ $50.00 bucks a head...WHO pays those officials?
Who pays for their travel expense?
Who pays for their lodging and food?
Who pays for their TIME being at the event?
...Once all that is paid, HOW are awards paid for and handout tires paid for...etc.
When you have to be a 'OFFICIAL' , it's NOT a Hobby for those people (at least for THIS event) and they MUST be paid properly...and have their expenses covered..and THAT is/can be expensive.
Remember, ANYONE can put on a race themselfs...call it a "NATIONAL" or a "INTERNATIONAL" champion race...but ONLY R.O.A.R. can put on the R.O.A.R. Nationals. Which in some circles means a lot when selling products, or trying to get sponsors...etc.
Humpty 10-08-2008, 11:53 AM First thing is ROAR dosent need to send people to run an event ..They do that on there own.. Do away with handout tires for a year and see if it helps turnout .. And drop there entry price ..
Jamie Hanson 10-08-2008, 12:16 PM Electric On Road Paved Nationals have been awarded to The Coliseum at Hobby Town USA, Fredrick, Maryland to be hosted October 1st - 4th
thats onroad not oval 2nd from the bottom
It is about time There is some sort of national event at my home track. This is great. Now if it was oval, it would be even better.
pmsimkins 10-08-2008, 12:38 PM It is about time There is some sort of national event at my home track. This is great. Now if it was oval, it would be even better.
They should just do them both at the same time and then pass the savings onto the racers. How quickly can you guys convert the track from roadcourse to oval?
Neither paved on-road or oval nats draw enough entries on their own to justify a 3 day race. Combine them together and it would actually make sense. Maybe I'd even get a rent-a-ride for the roadcourse.
swtour 10-08-2008, 01:42 PM A combined race would never work - why would ANYONE want to go to a NATIONAL EVENT that had both On-Road and OVAL cars at the same event?
laughin' hmmm
