One of the things I'm involved with annually other than our SWTour Series is a Cancer Benefit Car Show here in Santa Maria, CA.

The Cruzin' for Life Benefit Car show features some of the most beautiful HotRods in California, this event has CARS, VENDORS, all sorts of entertainment to keep the crowds excited and raise money for a great cause.

Registered Cancer Survivors get to vote on their favorite cars in the show, and part of this awesome show is a OPEN HEADER CRUISE through the downtown streets - with a POLICE Escort. The survivors get to pick their favorite cars, and ride in those cars along the cruise route...and it's a sight to see...and HEAR.

We hold a 'Exhibition' r/c event at this car show. Not a race with winners, but a show, showing off and explaining the thrill of r/c racing. We also hold a 'Survivors Challenge' which is a race in which 'Cancer Survivors' get to challenge each other, after a few hours of coaching from their paired up r/c racer. These racers provide their OWN cars to be used for the Survivors to use for this event, and they give them some brief instruction on how to drive them. The kids that took part in this last year were incredible, and very excited to be a part of this event.

My HUGE HUGE thank you is to Mr. BRIAN SMITH (aka INDYRC_RACER) here on HobbyTalk and over on RCTech.

Brian went so far beyond what I could ever imagine in donating 12 VINTAGE HPI style bodies. Some of these were used bodies that he had already stress tested, but the number of BRAND NEW Bodies he did up for us - and the incredible detail he put in to these bodies has just BLOWN Me and our other racers totally away.

WORDS can NOT express my thanks to Brian for his ability to make this bodies look so good, and for his generosity for donating these for the cause.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU

Here's a couple mounted up and ready to go!

Aaawwww SW, I didn't know you cared.

I'm a cancer survivor of 6 yrs now. They give me a 30% chance that I'd make it 5 years. I've now made it 6! :woohoo: That's worse odds than making a deal with Taylor Baney and actually getting what was promised. LOL Sorry guys just a recent habit I've picked up. I've kept a sense of humor, and it pulled me through some tough times.
Cancer is what got me back in to the hobby. I was down after having some reconstructive work done, and dug up my old nitro rustler and headed to our local track. One of the Oval guys were out there and it caught my eye. Once he let me test drive it I was hooked. I spend heaps of money in medical expenses, and if if it weren't for used stuff, and a decent job I couldn't race. I also race with some really good guys, smack talkers for sure, but the best group of racers a guy could ask for. They've helped me along to get me up to speed with setup. My driving isn't the best but we have lots of fun.
I'm sure some of the survivors that got a chance to wheel these cars will remember this when they win their battle with what is a horrible disease, and end up racing or bashing.

You guys have done a good thing. Probably more than you realize. Keep it up.

I was glad to help out a good cause. I had fun painting the new bodies and it gave me a chance to try out a few different things like a flat black hood (externally). Here is a shot of all the cars before they got shipped out.
