Hi I recently was looking at a lawn tractor and at the bottom of the carb
attached to the bottom of the bowl is a 2" round piece with a wire leading from it (sorry no engine numbers) just wondering what it was? What it does?

That would be the fuel shutoff solenoid valve, when key is turned off there is a pin that blocks the main fuel jet. When key is turned on, the pin retracts to allow gas to main jet.
