Should Slash racing be mostly stock/spec?

I say yes. It'll probably help save the hobby.

I agree with you. I race a slash and haven't changed a thing on it. It would be nice to leave them as they are. I realize that the motors don't last long. That's the only flaw but other than that, I think they should be left alone. The only change I'll make is a body.

Stock except for only several things we allow to change just for durability
1. Must keep a plug between motor and ESC. Some have burned up stock plugs

2. aluminum shock caps.
3. lipo battery
4.any radio.
5. stock electronics other than that.
6. Stock tires.
7. Newer bodys are being considered as long as the give no advantage
and cover the wheels the same.

This class is so much fun having everyone so equal A mod class would be fine if others wanted to have it.

Same here. Our spec class has grown from the original 4 to 25 in 6 races. If it was a mod class, that would not have happened.

I think there needs to be a stock and a mod class for the Slash. Stock is great to get into it, but I like others don' want to keep it stock forever.

Keeping it cheap is not a bad idea though. I would say slash is the cheapest way to get into rc racing with the most fun factor. Have you guys raced your slash on oval yet? My goodness, what a riot. BattleFront Gaming is going to be the place to be this winter, especially with slashes. They have indoor off road too. I feel that with the slash being so affordable, it will appeal to a larger crowd. What do you think?

Hey Josh,
I agree with you. I think the slash class will be a big hit this winter. I'm looking forward to doing some oval as well. I better stock up on some parts when racing with you and the other guys. Have a good weekend.

In CT we have about 10 people in the Slash class. Everything stock except radio/receiver and 3600mah batteries and under. Seems to work well, I would like them to lift the battery rule but that's about it. Racing is at Pin Shop Hobbies:

That oval sounds like fun. I've raced mine on dirt so far but this weekend we start stadium carpet racing. Thats going to be interesting! I'll let you guys know how we come out. Its going to be like off road Mini Coopers.

yep the slash oval at BFG is dirt. and a lot of fun.

The_Heffer
10-06-2008, 08:40 PM
yes it is! it was like nascar on drugs. its neat to see what simple adjustments to the suspensions will do. it was entertaining for me to watch my slash take corners with only 3 wheels on the ground

BillCarson27

Yea heffer, you rolled quite a few times with nobody around you. I hope you get it right by the next race. You've tried copying someones setup right? Let the carnage continue!

Hoping to make it out to race the Slash soon. What are some of the set-up people are running? Are they putting slightly more camber it? Shock fluids? Toe?

Thanks

I'm actually running the same setup on oval, as i do on off road. it seems to hook up pretty well.

Oval?? Oval?? With the suspension on these things got, offroad, man.

The_Heffer
10-07-2008, 05:36 PM
that is true, but for me, im still new to the racing scene, so the oval is enjoyable, not saying that offroad isn't fun. But its much easier for me to find out what does what on something that is "constant".

Where is this BFG at? Me and some other guys might want to try the oval thing one day. It sounds like fun, or at least different.

Man I just seen the pictures of your outdoor track, that thing is perfect for slash racing. Theres one here in Highland MI I think, but its indoor. Now I know we've got to get over there, just to run on that track. Its awsome!

Wait until you see pictures of the indoor track when we are done. It is about 35 ft shorter in length, but just as much fun with the Slashes.

Now that was a video that earns its name. After watching that, I'm going out front with two charged packs to have some fun. Let me know when that indoor track is done, it'll be worth the trip.

The set up I ran last night was:

front
45 wt oil
2 hole piston
1- 2mm preload spacer on spring
1- associated shock limiter
outside hole on arm

rear
45 wt oil
2 hole piston
stock limiter
middle hole on arm
3/4 of stock preload

Lack of rear traction was a problem. Took me the qualifiers to learn how to drive it but the truck was solid and it could take harder corners with out traction rolling, less body roll. Going to put 40wt in the rear and I think it will be close to where I want it.

Hey Casey,
We are having a cash back race on November 29.
Lots of traction on the carpet.
We are doing box stock also, however you can use your own radio and receiver.

the proline tires have to soft of foam. stiffer foam would make them not roll in a corner so much.

I raced a slash for the first time today, it was a blast to drive, it handles like the real thing.

I've just started back into racing and got a slash. Racing on an indoor track until it warms up. Spec Slash class allows: Lipo's, any radio, and cut tires. Everything else must remain stock.

Right now I'm racing on a smaller tight course with this setup.

Front:
20wt. oil
Medium shock spacer
Outside shock location
-2* of camber

Rear:
35wt. oil
Largest shock spacer
2nd from inside shock postion
-5* of camber
I've also cut the stock tires all around to give more bite.

There's a couple people at my local track running upright shocks on the rear. The three wheel look can take some getting used to and the only way I can describe the handling and feel is odd, but weight transfer through turns is perfect for carrying speed.

Slash trucks are WILD!! Everyone who has one....loves em!! We just opened a Hobby Store and indoor race track and games in Iron Mountain, Mi a little over a month ago and the racing has been awsome! Saturday night off road and tuesday night on road, oval and off road oval! Mostly slash trucks! We actually broke our slash racing into four different classes now. pro 2 unlimited, pro 2 unlimited novice, pro 2 modified and pro 2 stock. Stock is box stock....and then the options to upgrade grows...Unlimited classes we broke up to give the experience racers and inexperienced racers an even edge and choice to race where they feel comfortable! It has worked out awsome!

Where i race ,Oak hill rc speedway, we have a lot of fun racing them. this is are most popular class. i personally like it because it is cheep. another reason that i like it is because it is traxxas strong. this class gives me a chance to try different set ups, gearing and shocks. this class also gives me a chance of getting into the a-main because it is not a equipment battle. where i race everybody runs lipo's so there is no debate there. if the class went to mod then i think all the people that have money but can't drive as well. i do know that since i have been racing this class i have gotten faster. when i run my 8th scale buggy , kyosho inferno rtr with stock motor, i have a chance of contending with the fast guys in the technical section. in conclusion this class has made me go from a bad driver to a average driver.

Stupid question for the uninformed, but what is Slash or a slash class? First I've heard of it. Sounds like I'll have to watch it at BFG sometime.

At one of our tracks, there are two classes.one is box stock with 3400 nimh non matched batts and pinion change, the other is called cheater which is box stock with exception of radio/rec and lipo and pinion change both come complete with a lot of banging and trash talk.

Hi Guys...

Here is a newbie :hat: question...

Is Traxxas the only company to make a 'slash' truck.

When I look on Horizon Hobby - I see other trucks that are
1/10th 2wd - do they qualify for slash class racing?

I am getting ready to purchase one of these, and just wanted to
see what my choices were?

Thanks
Joe S.

Traxxas is the only one that makes the "Slash". Associated is coming out with the SC10 but i dont know how the rules are going to work as far as mixing the two.

I like the looks of this slash. Is Traxxas still using that pin thru the axle to keep the wheel from slipping like they did with the Bandit?
