It has arrived!! The next Thunder Dome race is here! There will be a few changes with this one, but the same ideas will apply.

The track will be the AutoCRUNCH track from AutoFest. It is roughly 15 ft. long with a 4ft drop at about a 40 degree angle. The track is 8 inches wide that will acomodate 4 cars. There are no lane dividers, thats what makes it banger racing. Each race will consist of continued heats until one car has one 3 heats.

The feild will be open to 16 cars or trucks. No stretch trucks, semils, vans, extra weight just for weight or greasing axles. If there are any questions about casting, just ask. The cars will get scratches and scuffs when running, so please take that into consideration when customizing. The damage will not be extreme, and it adds to the look of a demolition car. Hotwheels, Matchbox, and Johnny Lightning allowed, and 'real' cars only, no fantasy stuff.

There will be 4 brackets with 4 cars each. Each bracket will run heats until one car has won 3 heats. The winners of those 4 brackets will advance to the final bracket. The first car to win 3 heats will be the winner. The remaining 3 cars will run until the next car has 3 wins to determine 2nd, and the remaining 2 will run until someone has 3 wins to determine 3rd and 4th.

The winner will win titles to all entered vehilces plus a prize package yet to be determined.

Race will be run on Sunday, December 7, 2008. Entries are due by Dember 6th at midnight. Please mail all entries to:
Chris Brake
2009 N. 9th Street Rd
Lafayette, IN 47904

Being that I am running this race, I will not be entering a car in it. Please email me to secure a spot in the race. eye_candy_12345@yahoo.com

Hey Chris,
Count me in,
It's in the mail,

I'll proably go with a HW Classic or JL for this one considering they are all metal castings.

I see this is being run on the 67th Anniversary of Pearl Harbor.
Is there some significance there????

just got back from the shop. need to know if there are any humps or bumps in the track where a low car won't make it?
got any pics of the inside playing feild?
car is almost done now. it's primored up and ready for tires and painting

Pretty smooth, and the curve at the base of the slope is easy enough I havent had problems with anything making it yet.

General explination of the cars would be demolition derby.

I completely spaced out the rules part on my post...sorry. Here it is, and I'll add it in to the main post.

Hope this clears up any confusion.

fast man!! drill post out. strip car. primor car and spray interrior. ruffly 1 hr. very easy build. i use air craft striper and under the right conditions it strips in 3 min. hot and humid here with lite rain.
and im working on three other projects at the same time. so i did this while waiting on things to set up. my new shop is set up pretty nice and everything is there in one place so this helps alot.

no info was passed on to me about the track or how it was to be ran.
eyecandy asked if he could run a thunder dome race derby style. i said ok. i asked no questions until to nite
see post times.
ask the guys in chat. i would not and could not give them any info. pat on the phone asked me if i had any info.and i told him all i know it was a derby type race. i had no heads up on what to build until tonite when i read the thread.
i would not cheat anyone plain and simple.
i even emailed chris asking to post rules on what a banger race was do to camaros posting and i even said i dont know what banger racing is. in the email. im out.

Heres some track pictures. It has been painted since, and it wont be set up full length, only about 15 total feet.

Any make as long as it isnt a van or stretch truck. Road warrior-esk would be kewl, hadnt thought of that path. I was thinking more traditional demo derby beaters, but the road warrior cars would be neat as well. Whatever sounds good to you!

Here's a Road Warrior-esk MB I did for a custom contest on Swifty's board last year. Maybe now would be a good time to see how it runs if that's the type of vehicle decided on. If not, no sweat.
For those of you wondering what a "Banger" is, here's a couple of pics of some "Banger Racers" done for the monthly Banger custom contest, using team colors from actual racers, also on Swifty's board.

Lettering the team names can be quite tedious. The eyes and the steady hands just ain't what they used to be.

This is what banger racing is according to the Brits. Drivers try to complete x number of laps. The hit at the 1:12 is massive.

I'd do it, but I would have to do the entire car over my Thanksgiving break, a little less than a week and I don't know if I'd be able to pull it off. I've got a couple works in progress back home that I might be able to throw together. If nobody else takes the spot I can give it a shot?..

If no one else fills the spot and you will be able to get one done, the spot will be yours. Let me know as soon as you know if you can get something done.

I had the question asked about gluing the bases on or not for a 'tech inspection.' Go ahead and attach the bases, I am fine with running this on the honor system that no rules were violated.

Umm, OK my first TD race question about bases. Can JB weld be used to put them back together?

I have my car narrowed down to 2, one of which has a screw bottom. Thanks in advance Earle

Not too happy with it yet but it looks different. Getting that close to the flap wheel on a bench grinder has a whole new meaning now. I needed to smooth off the top. Far from finished so it may change yet again. I figure its an over the pond race so the bug seemed an good choice. I have yet to make a tiltle for one of these. Dont have a printer. Lets just say I picked it up from a bone yard for a parts car right before the crusher.
