43rdMuscle 09-15-2008, 07:53 PM IMO Matchbox makes some of the best made and most affordable (bang for your buck) 1/43 diecast cars available today. Both of their American Muscle Car series and both Road Service Truck series were great.

PWSchuh 09-16-2008, 06:24 AM Those are generally very nice. The wheels, I think are there only downfall. They went more for a generic look than a realistic look. The bodies seem quite good.
scrambler81 09-16-2008, 08:21 AM I don't know, I've always liked the wheels on my Matchboxes. I think a lot of them look real sharp.

"Makes"? They aren't making any of these anymore, are they? I have a lot of the 1/43 cars and trucks from the direct mail days, but that all seemed to go away when Mattel got them. They were a bit overpriced, but they're still among the favorites in my collection.

I stand corrected, "makes" should be "MADE".:drunk: Below is a picture of one of their latest 1/43. These wheels ARE NOT realistic.

scrambler81 09-16-2008, 10:31 AM True, those aren't the real deal, but that's a "Superfast" isn't it? I guess they reuse a lot of the castings, but they don't seem to be detailed like the mail order cars from the 90s. Of course, they cost a lot less, too.

It's a member of the "Super Kings" series. It is a 1971 El Camino (and no, this casting was never used prior or reused).

Matchbox also progressed on a new 1970 VW Van casting for the King Size line before it was scrapped. I would have loved the new Van!

If you want a VW T2 van, Minichamps, Premium Classixxs & Schuco have all released 1:43 versions in the last 2-3 years. As well as vans, you have a choice of pickup, bus, camper & fire engine variants as well!
