I picked up my mower from the mower shop because they said it would be over $500 to fix the mower. I didn't even pay that much new for the mower. I've rebuild Chrysler big block motors so I'm sure I can determine what is broken inside, if anything. I've got all the external stuff broken down and bagged, and the flywheel nut off. But I just wanna make sure if there's any tools I need to order to further break it down. I see there's no threaded holes in the flywheel to aid in removal. So my repair manual says get a knock off tool. Other than that, I need a small valve spring compressor to get the valves out. But I can't find one for sale. Is there any other tools I'll need to get parts of internally. It's probably a broken cam gear. I'm just gonna tear it all down to see. In the manual it's talking about an oil seal protector and oil seal remover, but I probably won't remove any seals if I don't have to. Is there any way I can fabricate the tools I need or other tools I can use? Please if anyone knows let me know what tools I need so I can go ahead and order, my grass is getting high again. Thanks.

750182 valve spring compressor is inexpensive and easy to use. Pretty much everything can be done with mechanics hand tools.

What do you'll use to get the flywheel off? I can't use my steering wheel puller because there are no threaded holes in the flywheel. Or is it easier to order the knock off tool? It's not very expensive, but if I can use something else I already have I will.

The screws in the flywheel puller from Tecumseh are self tapping, you could just tap some threads in the holes and use your puller. I use the knocker, mostly because it's faster, but if you already have a puller that would work and a way to tap the holes in the flywheel, then thats what I would do.
