Ray9i9 09-14-2008, 08:55 PM Hello fellow Medina R/C Raceway racers,
As many of you know the Track will be under new Leadership for the 2009 season. I would like to thank the people who have voiced their opinions and support. There are many details to hammer out and we will try to keep everyone in the loop about anything significant. As we work through these details we will be forming a “core” group of people to manage the track. So far the people we have on board are Steve Dulemba, Steve Forester, Rick Sayers and I. We will also be contacting a few others who have notified us of their interest in working with us to make a successful 09 season. The current track leaders will continue to run the races through September 27 which is the last point’s race. We will then run the remaining races (Oct. 4, 11, 18), all current memberships for discounted race fee’s will be honored. We are also considering extending the current schedule if weather permits. So with your continued support, Medina R/C Raceway will have yet another season of great family fun!!!!!!!!
Thanks,
Ray
pink_sleeve 09-14-2008, 09:15 PM Thank you for being willing to step up to the plate. Hopefully this will bring some of the more competitive drivers back on the scene for the 09 season for more club races.
Track dried out nice today. Descent turnout of guys considering the rain in the past couple days. Sorry Tweak, but I couldn't find any tadpoles for u.
pink_sleeve 09-14-2008, 10:18 PM I'm hoping to be out this week to put down a few laps with my new ride.

Hey guys,
I know that you are really looking forward to getting in there and running some races this season but I have a word (or two) of caution.
I would NOT run ANY races on the track as it is right now!!!
Doing this will not help you guys in the long run. The track is in very bad condition and if you run races on it I believe it will color peoples opinon of what YOU think is an exceptable condition(s) to run races on. Everyone already knows what most of the current owners think is accepatable...I WOULD NOT continue the downward sipral! Separate yourselves from the old owners mistakes. Right now everyone has a glimmer of hope for Medina and I truely believe if you run races on this track that glimmer will fade and you will have an even bigger hole to dig out of than you do right now.
Having said that you could (if you intend on running races this season) go in and reface the junps and fix the many issues with the track and run into October if you choose. But this is the ONLY way I would recommend running any races this season.
I think Josh's idea of scraping the rest of this season in an effort to make for a MUCH improved track in the spring would be time MUCH better spent! Spend October prepping for '09.
Right now the whole left side of the track is not locked in or settled yet...get in there and get the base shaped and the drainage repaired (NOT in the MIDDLE of the track!!!!:drunk: ) and things like this. If you get the base worked this fall it will continue to settle over the winter and come spring time all you'll have to do is Harley rake it, fix any spots that settled more than expected and build the jumps. You'll have enough to do in the spring without having to work the base and get the drainage right! Trust me...
So in a nut shell I think it would be much better to scrape October and get things in motion for '09!
Who knows maybe I am the only one with this opinon. But I would hate to see your new venture spoiled before it even starts... Along the same lines I think October is not the time to be repairing the track to be able to run a couple more weeks. As soon as indoor starts you will see a large drop off anyways.
Hopefuly others will chime in on the subject...I doubt anyone got their moneys worth but running another couple weeks is not going to change that.
Hope this in useful,
Good luck.
Chris

I think Rick meant getting the chefs to AGREE on the ingredients will be the hard part. But your point is well taken. If they get the right group of people together then it will work!
Heatseeker 09-15-2008, 11:01 AM Where, when did Josh bring up scrapping the season? And.................nothing beats a great pot of soup. Oh, yeah. took the day off today, why the early posts. :p

What I know right now is the people taking over are not so closed minded that they are not open to debate as to what is good for all racers. Sometimes the goals of every racer can not be met but the ability for racers to give their input I'm sure would be helpful. This input should be in place before any track builds for next season. Getting the ingredients in place before cooking( LOL) really helps for a good dinner.
The decline of electric guys racing is really being looked into and really needs input as to the main reasons the track has not been great for them.
Post away guys on these subjects and let your voice be heard They will not be ignored like in the past I'm sure.
Chris,
I think most racers that would come out for the last few races would understand the track conditions as they are now. This topic could be brought up at a drivers meeting explaining the current conditions and ask them if a early shutdown would ok with them. As long as they understand that things are going to change over the winter. Good points though.
ccm399 09-15-2008, 11:07 AM Tweak,
I am pretty sure it is buried somewhere in the members thread on the DS but if not I know I heard it somewhere.
ccm399 09-15-2008, 11:21 AM Chris,

By "most" are you talking about most of the 15-20 that are coming now? (Good thing for the Slash class by the way...) Or the 45-50 that would normaly be coming?
I would think with a reface of the current layout and a little hipe they could get closer to the 45-50 mark the track was at. I just want to see them get some good momentum heading into '09!
This is the same thing we did at the end of '06, we started an electric only Friday night races. All it really did was prove to the electric crowd we were comitted to them. And '07 was the highest turnout of electric racers at Medina since before the gas racing boom!
I brought this up on here and the DS to get the talk going! As I said in my post maybe I am the only one but judging by the racers that normally run at Medina I see at OTHER tracks THEY would like to see a better track to run on!
It's their show I am just trying to give some input on how we got the track to were it was. They can do as they please.
I think they could make a HUGE statement to the racers by going in THIS weekend and doing the work. If they did this I think it would show they are willing to do what it takes to make a GREAT place to race! Think about it...they do not even own it yet and they are willing to fix the track before they take it over!
Chris
You input is appreciated and I did not mean to say that you were wrong.
You have the experience at what worked well and I'm sure your input will not be taken with a grain of salt.
Everyone keep up the good work!
pink_sleeve 09-15-2008, 01:36 PM The condition of the track is the number one reason why 75% of people that i know that use to run there don't anymore and choose to go to other tracks instead even though they are double the distance away.
badassrevo 09-15-2008, 02:57 PM I didn't like running 25 min either. Not just because of battery power either because I ran my Nitro car every race i ran there this year. I ran my truggy on battery power. I think that all classes should be 15 min mains.
russo11218 09-15-2008, 04:18 PM having this forum is a good stepping stone in my opinion to get the ball rolling in the right direction...i towould like to see some of the jumps refaced and ruts filled .
Heatseeker 09-15-2008, 04:27 PM How long were the mains in 2007? I can't recall, must be old age or something. :dude:

kbr2448 09-15-2008, 06:00 PM I myself would like too see something done with the long drag strip in the back like a table top or something like that i know the monster trucks lean out by the end of the straight and so did my truggy not trying too start anything just my 2 cents worth thats one reason i didnt run there too much this summer.
Junior@SHS 09-15-2008, 06:21 PM there is enough room for two tracks, one nitro and one electric,it would make working on each one easier. it would be a big help for the new guys to tkae a look at some of the better tracks , set ups,and how to run the races of other tracks all over, couldnt hurt .
either the new crew makes the choices of how things should be or the members do ,you cant have both ,it gets to confusing about whos in charge .the track ran the best and had the largest turn outs when you had one guy making the choices, and running things.good luck to the new crew and i hope for a great 2009 season.
Heatseeker 09-15-2008, 06:40 PM I like long straights, here's a pic of the straight at the Worlds:

ccm399 09-15-2008, 07:44 PM The straight at the farm is a little over 200' if memory serves. The track is also 195' deep! Add the 20' or so the drivers stand is from the track and well you get the picture!

I agree with most of this post. The only thing i disagree with is you saying that we feel the present track conditions are acceptable.I have been in this hobby for a long time and running a track is by far the worst experience i have ever had. If you guys have any questions ask away and i will try my best to answer them.
scrapping the rest of the "08" year and starting fresh for the "09" year would be a vary good thing for the new owner, however there is the memberships that need to be consider. If the "08" members had there memberships carry over for the remaining races to next year, that would be another great start. After reading Music's post, i had a new found hope for medina. All of the things that were said in the earlier posts about the track is part of the reason i slowed down in my racing. to bad i could not find the time to travel to other tracks.
emod15_777 09-15-2008, 09:42 PM [QUOTE=dell;2515664]i slowed down in my racing. QUOTE]
I didn't know you could get much slower!!
The agreement between us and the new staff is your membership will be valid for the rest of this season. See post #1.
nitrojeff 09-15-2008, 10:42 PM I'd like to say thanks to the old owners. Even a failed effort was more than I was willing or able to commit to.
I certainly appreciate that someone else is going to take over. The Medina track has always been the gold standard for racing. I'm sure they will do a fine job. Thanks
ccm399 09-16-2008, 12:59 PM I agree with most of this post. The only thing i disagree with is you saying that we feel the present track conditions are acceptable.I have been in this hobby for a long time and running a track is by far the worst experience i have ever had. I know what you mean...
I sturggled with the wording for that section of my post. I know you and Clark have been around long enough to know the track (as it is right now) is by no means a race ready/worthy track. However, the other Bryan always talked about wanting the track to "blow out" (guess he got his wish!) Too bad the dirt is not the type of dirt you would want to "blow out"! The edges of the ruts and bumps are too hard and the cars get thrown around instead of being able to fight their way through. As far as Papa goes, he has been quoted far too many times saying "its off-road right?".
The reason I struggled with the wording was/is when it comes right down to it you guys chose to run races on the track this in its self seems to indicate you think the track is acceptable, why else would you continue to run races on it?
These types of problems are why when asked if I was up for holding an office next year I declined, there is NO way I would allow races to be run on something like that when my name is attached to it. It just wouldn't happen. Put in your position I would take it apon myself to get the track in good working condition with or without help! That's the way I work though...I can't shut it off. As far as the club members go they are there to have FUN not work on the track. Sure there are always people willing ot help out but there is a big difference between wanting to help and being expected to help.
As a side note, Steve took about 10-20 minutes on Sunday with a shovel and worked a couple of the jump faces and those jumps were immediately better, you could actually run through those jumps side by side without being fearful of what direction your car was going to get thrown. Imagine if this type of work had been done all along...
None of us can change what happened or how we handled this season but we can ALL try to make sure it doesn't happen next season. Lets put '08 behind us and move forward. Hopefully with a good track and program and LOTS of PR Medina can make a come back next year and the years to follow.

Scott54 09-16-2008, 07:47 PM I'm probably going to get banned for this one...............BUT, before I continue, I'm only saying this because there is NO racing this saturday at Medina due to the CRCRC race. That being said, I just wanted to inform everyone that may not know, there is a trophy race this Saturday at Hobbytown in Boardman. It starts at 4:00. Stone me if you may, but I don't think this will effect Medina in any way.
By the way, Good luck to the new owners!!
