I have been given a murray wide body with 14.5 briggs motor. Body is in great shape. But the motor is giving me alot of trouble. I first had to replace the starter ring on the flywheel. Now I am having running problems. Cold it starts and runs fine. Idle and high power. But let it run for about 15 minutes and will just die. Not like it is running out of gas just quit like the key was turned off. Problem 2. When trying to restart it with it hot now, it's hard to turn over. Model 287707 type 0225-01 code 961209ZD Briggs 14.5 OHV I/C quiet.

Check for spark immediately after it dies. Hard cranking when hot could be several things, from valves needing adjustment to a problem with the battery, or cables and connections, as well as the starter motor. I would check the valve clearances first.

Thanks for the help. Adjusted the valves and corrected the starting problem. (.023 & .027 before adjustment) However did have to adjust them twice. First time was cold engines. Second time hot motor. Started hearing one make noise. Put in a new easy start plug and the dieing problem went away. Must have been the old plug. Run great now. Thanks again.
