The Coen Brothers follow up to NCfOM. Uneven but entertaining. Stellar cast with Brad Pitt doing some very funny stuff.
A somewhat typical Coen film in that (semi) normal people get caught up in unusual circumstances with funny and deadly results. The film is more dark than funny, the violence is sudden and jarring.
I will say that the scenes with JK Simmons (J.J. Jameson from Spiderman) and his CIA underling is some of the funniest stuff I've seen in a long time.
I would recommend this to all Coen Bros. fans. The rest might want to wait to rent.

Agreed. Definitely not an "A-Game" effort though there are some genuinely hilarious moments.

I found no charm in any of the characters. Although I laughed more than once there wasn't any warmth typical of other Coen movies.
At the moment I can't remember being charmed by NCfOM although Tommy Lee Jones and Kelly Macdonald were tragic.

Finally caught this on blu-ray last night, and while I enjoyed parts of it, it didn't entirely work for me. It was almost like the Coen brothers were experimenting to see if they could make a movie with an extremely likable cast playing characters that were barely tolerable, much less likable. Unlike most Coen films, there really wasn't anybody to root for.

The scene where George Clooney finally proudly unveils the "invention" he's been tinkering on in the basement gave me my biggest LOL moment in quite some time. Bad as his character was, I didn't see that coming.

I agree the film isn't up to the Coen's usually high standards, but as a mitigating factor I never tire of watching George Clooney play an idiot.
