Would we have any use for one in the slotcar world?
I would think that it could be used somehow for testing our little DC motors...

You could obviously use it to check for AC ripple on power supplies and DC voltage measurements. That's a no brainer. I speculate that if you look at the waveform on the rails, which is a combination of the applied voltage and the generated voltage from the motor, you'd probably see some little spikes due to sparking on the commutator. You could then use the period of these spikes to calculate the rotational speed of the motor (rpm). I'd definitely be interested in spending some time with a decent o-scope and probe and seeing what other interesting information can be gleaned from observing the waveforms coming off the motor. But what I'd really like to have is an acoustic (audio) signal analyzer. I could surely put one of those to very good use...

If you spin the motor that you want to check with a second motor and capture it's voltage output with a scope you will easily be able to see if the motor has an equal output at each pole.

For years, I have used a poor man's O scope (am radio) to adjust my pancake motor brushes. Get 'em quiet.

Speaking of poor mans tools.... If you apply power to your car with a 9v you can hold it in front of your TV screen and see if the rear tires run true.

Hey Scott,
It's in Tim's Fray tuning and set up thread in our very own tuning forum. It's a ways back.

Guess you could use one of those CRT style tvs with rabbit ears to do the same. I remeber back in the day (60's), I would have to stop racing when it was my parent's TV time. Those Tjets really screwed up the picture. rr

Back in the early 90's I lived in an apartment. Everytime we ran slots the entire unit of about 10 apts would get screwed up.

When I worked at NASA, we had one set up in the breakroom, screwed the whole mission a couple of times.
