View Full Version : Hobby Talk
ScottD961 09-10-2008, 06:36 PM HI !
Does anyone know when Hobby Talk got started? What was it that lead up to it's being formed ? Also who is it's founder ? Just curious is all, I would have gotten back into slots along time ago if I had of found this site sooner but glad to be here now !
:woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:
roadrner 09-10-2008, 07:15 PM Well I came on board in 1999 and it had been going on for maybe a year or two at that time. Although JL Playing Mantis was more involved with the boards then. Shortly after my arrival some issues occurred and I believe Hank came to the rescue and took over "ownership" of the board because JL/PM was going to shut it down completely If I recall. And that's where we are today, one of the best boards on the web from the top to the bottom.
Thanks to the Hankster and all of the members.:thumbsup: rr
ScottD961 09-10-2008, 07:17 PM Cool ! Thanks RR didn't know about all of the history. How come JL/PM wanted to shut it down? You would think that it would have been good for there business!!
roadrner 09-10-2008, 07:26 PM There were some different personalities here back in the day that didn't play well with others and JL/PM was getting tired of it. rr
ScottD961 09-10-2008, 07:38 PM interesting for sure ! I have been wondering about this for awhile , thanks again . Histories behind things like this are always interesting. Aurora, slot cars Hobby talk .....etc ! Thanks
resinmonger 09-10-2008, 09:31 PM I am really glad that this board has survived. I've had more fun reading and posting this year than about any other activity I can name. It is cool to be hooked up with the global HO community. Great people + great ideas + great models = one stoked Russ.
:woohoo::woohoo::woohoo:
NTxSlotCars 09-10-2008, 10:54 PM I am so thankful for you guys here at HT. I havent raced on an HO track or touched any of my builds for a couple of weeks now, and Im going crazy!!!!!! If it werent for HT keeping me in the loop with yall I would go completely nuts. Thanks Hank!!!!!!!

ScottD961 09-11-2008, 09:50 AM Ditto Resin and NTX , Thanks HANK ! This board was Extremely helpful in getting me back into a hobby that I was absolutely Crazy about as a kid. It's great to be back. Truth be told I was surprised how much support there is for this hobby , I mean I am sure a lot of us would like to see more but I didn't even know this hobby had survived and then to find this site and all of the other ones dedicated to slots was just great
craftymore 09-11-2008, 11:42 AM I think a thread on the JL section in diecast had a link about the history of HT a while ago. Regardless, this is one of the best toy car sites on the web.
videojimmy 09-11-2008, 12:18 PM I came back to the hobby before I found the boards. I didn't realize there as many slot geeks out like me as there are. I do 99% of my posting here now. I found this place after being kicked off the first forum I found, slot car garage, where one of the moderators there took a disliking to me for reasons I'm still not clear on.
I'm better for it. This place has a bigger collection of people and a wider variety of talents and ideas. Thanks Hank to keeping this place alive.
Bill Hall 09-11-2008, 02:25 PM The funny part for me is that it was one Of VJ's ultra cool cutom rods that put me at Hobby Talks Door in the first place. I remember thinkin' thats the coolest darned slot car I've ever seen! I wanna build cars like that!"
I wandered in the back way via some obscure linkages I couldnt remeber if ya payed me. I knew right away that this was the place. Not necessarily folks with like minds, but folks with similar life experiences and above all the undying love and passion for a hobby, in this case stoopid lil cars; as my mother called them way back when and still calls them today.
A lifetime membership was a no brainer bargain given the amount of fun and pleasure I take from this site. The way I finger it, it was one hell of a lot cheaper than rent, seein' as how practically live here anyway.
Hank puts up with me, so the rest of y'as dont have a choice!
rudykizuty 09-12-2008, 06:24 AM I'm in my late 40's and have only been into the hobby for a year or so. In that time, I have found that hanging around here at HT, learning what I can from the more experienced guys, reading interesting threads on how to get these little wonders to run better, looking through the awesome pics of everyone's tracks and participating in enjoyable conversation with a great bunch of guys is just as much fun as enjoying the hobby itself. It's a rare day when I don't check in to see the latest posts. I'm hooked.
Thanks Hank

I have to echo what Rudy says here. I'm 47 now, and I have only been back into the hobby for a short time, (in a BIG way ,only this past year) This site has made the hobby a lot more fun for me than anyother hobby I have been into. I check in at least once a day !!
Thanks Hank
