I heard that a remake of Ghostbusters is planned. I don't know why it has to be remade. The original was fine. Who are we gonna call to complain?

I hope they don't remake that... enough already.

It's not a remake, it's a sequel, "Ghostbusters 3".

Does it have the original cast? If not, it ain't Ghostbusters

From what I've read so far, Ramis and Aykroyd will have something to do with it, but the film mainly centers around a franchise, with new Ghostbusters.

A franchise?

Somehow, that doesn't strike me
as a good idea.

I'm guessing Ray Parker Jr won't be doing the theme song either.

Yeah. I think Huey Lewis might not like that. ;)

I guess Huey will get royalties for making up the song, unless, he sold his rights to the Ghostbuster franchise. I can't imagine the same song not being used.

Sequels are usually not much better than remakes.

Sequels are usually not much better than remakes.

So true, although there are the occasional exceptions where the sequel is actually better.

Ghostbusters is one of my favorite movies of all time. That said, I was sorely disappointed with the sequel. To be honest, I don't have a lot of high hopes for this one, although I will wait and see.

Yeah, because historically sequels to Bill Murray movies have been so good, especially when Murray doesn't appear in them. Caddyshack II, Meatballs II, Stripes II, etc, etc etc...

Technically, you could almost say the same about Ghostbusters II.

There's a scene in the original that sums up the joy of that movie for me. Its' an innocuous little piece, probably lands on no one's radar...the early scene in which they get kicked out of their cushy little research lab and lose their funding. Asked what they're going to do, Venkman just says "I don't know"...but he's got a beatific expression and is bouncing up and down on the balls of his feet. The characters reflect the attitude of the principle cast: the whole thing is a lark. They're loving it, and it's infectious.

Along comes the sequel, a movie about...New Yorkers getting mad at each other?? Admittedly I've never been to NY, but this doesn't seem like a stretch. And that's the mood of the actors and characters. Murray shows a marked lack of enthusiasm, Venkman is played and written that way - they all are. Notice how Venkman makes every excuse he can to distance himself from the others. Murrray didn't want to be there, I'm certain. It comes through. The joy is gone, and the whole thing comes off as a cynical cash-in.

What struck me as ironic was that a week earlier, Star Trek V had debuted. The two anticipated summer blockbusters were a stark contrast in bad movies. Final Frontier had that comfortable feeling of being with family... had it's heart in the right place while it's head was lodged firmly up- well, anyway, Ghostbusters II showed signs of wit but had no heart.

Ghostbusters III ...can you imagine how excited I'm not?

Really! Mr. Moranis must have invested well because he certainly doesn't appear to be working much these days.

That's what I have read. It seems he has done quite well with investments and such from those movies.
