View Full Version : OT: Kind of - Race room & feeBay feedback

OK so probably most everyone has a 'race room' or racing area, probably the basement or a rec room, with some kind of racing decor. I do and I bought a Porsche flag off feeBay to hang by the track.

Anyway, the flag was listed as coming from New York City. I paid immediately and anyway long story short, days and days pass, couple of e-mails "Where's the flag at?" and finally today it shows up 21 days later. Oh, and it came from Argentina. :freak:

The flag is perfect, price was OK, but I hate waiting 3 weeks for something that would have been here in 2 days from NYC.

I left positive feedback - a soft positive - but do you think this was too harsh?

"Item NOT in NY - was Argentina . . Delivered by donkey - took 21 days. Flag OK"

It's the way I felt and feeBay doesn't give you much room to elaborate.

I agree and you should have been completely honest as e-Bay's new system does not allow the seller to retalliate against negative or neutral feedback anymore.

What I have found out is that some eBay sellers that have setup Store Fronts are acting as middle men dealing with warehouses all over the world to stock and hold their product they sell on eBay and then when an eBay auction is over, they send the information to the warehouse of where to ship the item and what shipping to use. From a sellers perspective this is a great thing because they don't have to keep those items on-hand where ever they live - in this case, the guy more than likely lived in NY. But when you won his item, he placed your order with the warehouse and had them ship it from Argentina.

My wife discovered this buying some shirts off eBay. The sellers was in our state but it took nearly a week for the item to arrive. When it did, it came from the shirt maker's warehouse not from Texas!

Once again, eBay evolves and the buyers are getting the screws.

Have experienced this in other mail order type businesses as well auctionland. Direct ship from manufacturer when ordered. No wharehousing, no inventory required and keeps their $ in their account. Don't mind it, just don't leave me hanging on the shipping aspect. If I know it's gonna take three weeks, okay.

Then again, some don't advertise this because the shipping timeframe may eliminate some potential customers. :) rr

Glad you got your flag. Too bad the donkey had to stop off to haul coffee beans on the way. Sounds like you told it like it was. Don't lose any sleep over it.

Hey, I could have picked it up for you while down here in Brasil! It still would have taken a while for you to get though. I would have brought it home and displayed it in my race room for a couple of weeks and then shipped it next day air to you. If itīs any consulation, it may have been made by an actual German, related to someone who left Europe after WWII.

HGTV race room tip: Hang a "Lemans" movie poster next to it to really make it "pop".

I'm impressed. To cover the distance from Argentina to Milwaukee in 21 days the donkey would have to be moving at a pretty fast clip. I roughly estimate the donkey would have to maintain a 16-18 mph average speed over the entire distance to make the flag delivery within 21 days. While I'm no donkey velocity expert, that sounds like more than a sprightly gallop for a pack animal bred more for load capacity than delivery rate. Granted, the added incentive and motivation of flying genuine Porsche colors while on the road may have inspired the donkey to push a little harder and lay down some serious miles and live up to the Porsche legend as no donkey has ever done. However, when you consider the fact that the donkey cannot be run at 100% duty cycle, has to occasionally stop for rest, feed bag replenishment, watering, driver restroom breaks (maybe), compelling scenic vistas, recharging the GPS, passport checks at border crossings, and especially considering the language barrier, then you can appreciate the donkey's dedication. Heck, just getting through Chicago can impose construction delays of an hour or more even if you could somehow sneak the donkey into the HOV lanes. The obligatory stop at the WI state line Cheese Palace and Adult Books state welcome center adds 45 minutes, and there you have it, you're into day 21 and the flag is finally ready for delivery. So next time you see those Porsche colors flying proudly in your race room, offer up a salute and tip a cold one for the donkey who made it all possible.

P.S. Here's one of the travel pics that the donkey had made during his flag delivery journey. I think this was right before he made a "coffee" delivery to some slotcar dude in Chicago.

passport checks at border crossings

Hmmm, are we certain this was a legal crossing? I'm having a hard time believing that our border security would have let him through looking as he does
