That gives you a slow class, a mid class, fast class, and expert class. What more do you need? Just MHO. I am not a fan right now of the single cell lipo. But whatever.

Only having 4 choices will make the competition better. No more "champions" that only had to beat 5 other cars!! I hate that!!

Open Mod is one of those Big Question classes....Low count last year, Near NO open mod since then......What will take Sprint cars place....Less than 20 Last year.....It doesn't seem the Off-road chassis type class is working to draw the Dirt oval guys......Will there be a Latemodel class to replace the Sprints? Maybe the 19 turn Truck class will be on the list.....

I dont think you can get rid of the sprint class. One of the funest classes to watch. Last year was my first year at the Snowbirds (I built a sprint car for someone else to wheel) and this year I can see my self maybe comming with a pancar for myself. It is working to draw some dirt guys in.

I think for a race that is as big as the birds you shouldn't have that class. Any class with less then 20 or 30 people is a waste of time. JMO. I am not a fan of the touring oval, sprints, SK's. Lets just get the most popular class's and race those. If you set the class rules far enough in advance people can "stock up" on the proper equipment.

Great thread Jimmy!!!! With lipo and brushless taking over now would be the perfect time to set just three classes, 21.5 lipo 5000 max, 17.5 lipo 5000 max, and 10.5 lipo. This would make for a higher car count. I don't understand why people are always wanting more classes. Back in the day when oval was BIG we only had two classes stock and mod and no one complained about PRO drivers in stock. Look at it this way, the slow will get faster and the fast will get old. LOL

Need to keep the Sprints. Just need to open it up to all chassis, not just CW. I know they sponsor the class, but there are to many car builders out there now.

Seems FLA might have the only 10.5 racing left. Anyone else racing it? Anyone plan on racing it? 78 cars at the 2008 'birds!!!

Will most racers that run 2 10th classes race:
LIPO 21.5 and 13.5..
LIPO 17.5 and 10.5..
or all Sub-C or all LIPO..

all the people I know that have tried Lipo say no more sub-c for them ever again and this includes mod guys!

I'd imagine you'd have multiple class guys running one of the following:
a) Lipo 21.5 and Lipo 17.5
b) Nimh 13.5 and Nimh 10.5

I don't imagine too many would run one sub-c class and one Lipo class, since the Lipo battery they've run in thier first class can be topped off and run in their second pretty easily.

Then you wind up with 17.5-4cell for the old stock racers and Mod for the big dogs. Thats the potential for !6! pan car classes. :rolleyes:

I dont envy you Mike. On one hand its really tempting to say board the Lipo train or get left at the station, but on the other that would kill the two biggest classes from last years race and you hope people have made the investment to switch over.

I think you will see most people run 21.5 lipo, 17.5 lipo, or 17.5 4 cell. If you offer the other classes of course you will have people that enter, but the classes that I mentioned is where all the competition will be.

if i remember right there were right at 100 entries in 13.5 4 cell last year,biggest class.you telling me they are all gonna switch by then?

Yokman, A lot of the racers (maybe most) in the south have switched from13.5/nimh to 21.5/3200 lipo and as Brian 0528 said " most will not be doing nimh again". Speeds in the two classes are close. I would say that 13.5 could loose as much as half or more and many of the racers still running nimh will choose to run 17.5/nimh ( 17.5 motor was not out by last years Birds).

Just my oppinion. I could be wrong.

You're right, but you still risk alienating 25% of those guys if you don't have a sub-c class for them to race since I'd say only 75% will have switched over.

Here's a NOVEL idea -

How about roughly 3 months before the race you take instead of a POLL a 'Pre-Registration' deposit.

Have a pre-race CLASS Lock in with a $5.00 deposit made for EACH class guys want to run.

If a single racer wants to vote for 6-7 classes...they put up the Pre-Bucks for the class.

Leave the class list OPEN for 30 days - and at the end of those 30 days, any class that doesn't have at least 24 deposited pre-entries by that time - NOT be run.

24 entries would at least assure a A,B,& C main

....just an idea from LEFT field.

Joe, right on! The poll will never be accurate unless racers vote for the class(s) they intend on running. But like the poll states "classes you would like to see at the Birds." I would like to see them all racing! :thumbsup: Still I'm not gonna vote since I will not be there.

If MB does'nt set some classes in stone soon (ie:21.5L & 17.5L batteries) it will be too late and there will be alot of guys that won't be able to afford the equipment AND the travelling expenses in time for the Bird's!!!!!!!! JMO!

Mikes not going to run a bunch of obscure classes that nobody has equipment for. Most will only need fresh batteries and such.

LOL, everyone I've even known who went to the birds bought NEW stuff to go anyway...no difference here, except instead of actually buying it...they may have to shove their $$$ in a coffee can until the right time.

Well it would be nice to have a few months of practice with the equipment we'll be running! I don't own a lipo yet. therefore would love to get some time on them! Just don't want to go out and buy something I can't use..

SWT- I'm sure EVERYONE buys new stuff for the birds ie:tires,batteries,cars,etc. but not stuff their not familiar with. Agreed?

well, everytime our guys went to the birds they had to use "UltraBird" motors - that NOBODY on this coast had ever seen...but they still went.

A racer who is what most want to consider "Snowbird Worthy" will adapt, even if they didn't get the STUFF until race day....hmmmm now that might be an idea!

Offer 3 OVAL classes by speed of MOTOR - but make it part of the race package - and DON'T tell guys what they are running...LET them figure it out AT THE TRACK - ok...just being silly now.

Its not if you are going to run them...it is what you think they should have. The poll doesn't say what are you going to run at the birds. I am only going to run 1 class...I dont know what one yet, but it will prob be either 17.5 4 cell, 21.5 lipo (3200) 17.5 lipo, or something else...:thumbsup:

I'm running---- 21.5BL LIPO(MY cherry pickin class according to DavePULL .....LOL) and 17.5 Lipo....I'm sure I can managed a worst finish than my H-Main Win in 13.5 4 cell and 2nd in th G-Main 10.5 4 cell....

SWTour, Lipo hasn't taken off here one bit YET....Don't own one, don't even have a charger for one....If the birds still runs 4-cell then that's what I practice for....But if they run all lipo, then I gotta get my ass in gear, and even learn how to charge one, let alone get the chargers worked out, and run a car with one.....
The same as if you went to your track with Nitro....Do you have the right fuel, because of rules...Do you even have a bump box to even get the thing started??? So, I'm assuming you'd say, "Well, I'd buy that stuff ahead of time"...Ok, what if you didn't get to the track because no one runs nitro in your area, didn't have enough time to travel and practice/race with people that do 6 hrs away because you had short notice, but your going to fly 1600 miles to another state where the worlds biggest event is, and probably waste a couple grand, with the family going, to find out, you don't know what gear to run, you don't know where to set the low speed needle at, what front springs should you run...then it's no fun, and wasted money....Got it???

Bill don't get your panties all in a bunch, I garauntee that mike will still have 4 cell classes this year and some lipo classes too. We are going to try lipo at marshalls this year along with 13.5 4 cell. So come on down and run 4 cell and when we get the lipo class going get a charger and battery and join us.A lot of us a marshalls go to the birds every year as you know and when mike comes out with his classes I am sure we will be running some of those.
Mike dosen't usaully come out with his classes this early, so why dosen't everybody run what class they want to at there local track. Then mike can get a better feel for what classes to run.

Not upset at all Ron, Never was...neither have the classes ever been so screwed up before either.....2 years ago, I knew I was going to run 6 Cell Mod, and 4 Cell Mod in JUNE...Because the classes were always the way they were for years....All I had to worry about was one type of battery that I had equipment for, now it'll be 2 types, and the fact is if I won't be lazy about sending my GFX's in to get updated.....No biggy Brother, was just a simple comment made in my first post, that got blown out of proportion as usual by some 10 yr olds that'll probably drive people out of the hobby like me after 22 years just so we don't have to deal with hearing about this crap anymore...:wave:
