i'd like to hear how you guys painted your seaview.
not about colors, but did you use a spray can, airbrush, etc...
did you paint yours outside? inside? use a spray box?
lots of over spray?
you get what i mean?

I used an airbrush on mine for the top and bottom hulls :thumbsup:which was done in the garage. Even setting the pressure on the reg down I still got some overspray. But I just chuck an old sheet over the bench just in case. :p

Cheers,

Alec.

I haven't gotten there yet, but it will be airbrushed indoors.

Here is what I did on my Seaview...

I do not claim to be the authority on Seaview Colors, However I did speak to a "Seaview Expert".

I airbrushed my Sub outdoors. However I often use several different methods to get the desired results. Brush Painting, Washes..ETC..

You'll find a lot of the guys here are going to use, or have used the Light Ghost Grey for the upper Hull, which after I did my extensive research is incorrect.Having said that however, You can paint your boat to whatever looks good to your Eye:thumbsup:.

Just offering my perspective...

I used Tamiya TS spray Racing White (a cream color) for the bottom and AS spray Ocean Grey for the top.

i'm more interested in how you painted it rather than color.
this is a big model and i'm not real good at spraying, whether with can or airbrush.

i mea i feel like the time i get from one end to the other, the first part will be dry.
do i need a huge spray booth? will i fog myself with paint trying to spray this giant thing??

Well since I used spray cans... I painted it with spray cans. It wasn't that hard to do. I did it outside and after the model was nearly complete.

I painted the rudders, props, periscopes, etc. seperately.

The windows were masked with Tamiya tape and the whole sub was primed with Tamiya White primer. Especially the bottom. Then the bottom was sprayed in Racing White. It took a few coats over two days. The bottom was masked with Tamiya tape and the top was sprayed grey. The grey took fewer coats. I could have used an airbrush but it would have taken longer and my painting area is crowded so a 40" sub would have been more awkward.

If you have build any sort of large model the Seaview won't be a big deal. Its in the same vein as Monogram's 4' B-36 and 3' B-52 bombers or Nichimo's big 4' Yamato

I sprayed mine from the can (with the windows masked)

no masking along the lenght just srayed the top color from above and let the minimal overspray create the blend between top and bottom.

Seeing as the subject of masking has come up, could somebody here point me towards a good source for Tamiya Tape? My LHS only carries some other brand that bleeds paint (too much).

Tower Hobbies should have it. I get it via their wholesale half for my own shop.

You could also try MegaHobby. I've been buying my Tamiya masking tape from them. Good prices and excellent service.
