For the people that have tried the Tekin RS esc, what do you think of it compared to Novak?
Looking for any comments and opinions.

Thanks

It's definitely no faster than a LRP or Novak. It is expensive, especially considering that the hotwire is basically a necessity. The adjustability is pretty useless for oval, but you need the hotwire to turn up the timing which is very very low out of the box.

Mine delays off the line with 4 cell. I'm hoping that with a LiPO it is better, but with 4 cell on carpet it is basically not raceable unless you qualify on the back row, otherise you stack up the whole field. I don't think they all have this problem, but I know some others do as well.

On to the positives. It has a smaller footprint, smaller capacitor and solder posts.

If those features are worth the extra $80 to you then get it. If not then stick to the Novak or LRP.

pmsimkins, go to tekin web. They have an update for this problem. I think it's update 183.

I ran the 183 version yesterday in 10.5 on carpet. I would say the the RS isn't the hardest launching speedo I own but it is very very raceable.

If your thinking of getting a RS think no more get one. why lots of great features, small foot print, light and the hotwire function is very important. it allows for new software downloads (like the 183 version) and with the hotwrie you can really fine tune gearing and motor heat with the speedo timing.

I just don't think it is fair to say that it is "un racable"

I of course have been running this speedo for months and love it. I ran the 183 softwear update for about 6 weeks now the hot wire took the update without a flaw . The the wonderful thing about this product. The on going free upgrades!!!! Dave if you rs is not lauching hard check your settings it should . To everbody make sure when you do any update from the hot wire to do a master reset on the speedo before the install of the new data. AFTER the transfer with all your radio epa maxed out set your speedo. Then if you need to do a radio setting change do it then. I missed this step once and I was a slug at the start. My own fault. I also been running our 13.5 motor alot the last 3 weeks . I must be honest I am about 2 seconds slower in a four minute run with it than I am using my novack motor. I havent found the sweet spot yet. But it will come .

Thanks for the comments so far. I need to get a new ESC and the smaller footprint of the Tekin would be great. From the sounds of it, it sounds like this is a pretty nice speedo. Now I just have to decide if the price difference would be worth it. I also like the idea of being able to update it when they have a fix for an issue.

...such honesty is refreshing, thanks Pat.

From experience...when mfg's offer updates every week it just says that their product wasn't ready for release and the consumer is doing their beta testing for them.

I just picked up an RS Pro and haven't had a chance to run it yet. The footprint is very nice along with the solder posts - super easy to put wires on it. It was also easy to setup and easy to see if you are correctly setup for full throttle by looking at the LEDs on the speed controller.

Matt My RS Pro should be here this week. Think you can adjust my settings with your Hotwire?

I hear ya Dave...I just thought it was cool that he indirectly stated that you do not need this item to be competitive - and then gave detailed explanations of pros and cons.

I think the unit is slick. The footprint is perfect and solder posts are the best hookup IMO. I just wish that they worked out all the bugs before its debut - the only thing that makes me skiddish about purchase.

Update 183- is that update 1.83, or the 183rd update?!?

Only available update for the RS and RS pro is 180.....The number is the number of time the program was tested in the lab....This includes the R1 softwire for Horwire....

I like the option of a speed control that can be updated....Nothing in this world is perfect! All I know is I haven't seen a Tekin RS or RS Pro go up in Flames!

the 183 profile is suppose to fix the lag in 4 cell from a standing start
it is still being tested i guess before it is widely available
