Ok so we bent the crank on the briggs by hitting a metal pole with the lawn mower. So I replaced it. I got a new crank, and crankcase gasket. During the process, the valve tappets fell out and got mixed up. I later read that each tappet has to go back in the hole that it was in before or else the valves will need to be adjusted or something like that. I am pretty sure that i put the engine in time, but i guess mistakes can happen. Also, i didnt have a tourqe wrench that was able to do the job, so I just made everything tight and used blue locktite. The engine turns over fine, but i noticed that there is quite a bit of air blowing OUT of the carb, almost like the timing was backwards or something???? Is the timing off or what??? The engine model is 126t02 and the type is 0454el. Thanks

If you didn't torque the rod down to specs you will eventually run into problems with the rod cap coming loose and pretty much destroying your engine block. Your best bet would be to rent a torque wrench from auto zone or an auto parts store.
As for timing make sure your camshaft is lined up correctly, there should be marks on the gear and cam which need to line up, if they are correctly lined up then try switching the lifters around.

you can get the torque wrench at a local HF store, for years I never did that and worked great, sound like it is out of time, think the setting is 9 intake. 11 exhaust, need to check that out but I say time it, Light Mechanic
