Here's a meld of the Fat Fender 40 and the SwoopCoupe called "Coupe-deVilla".

Chassis and base from the SwoopCoupe and body from the Fat Fender.

Tires from Muscle Machine Tuners.
Interior from Johnny Ltng '53 Buick Riviera.
Dash had to be sectioned, puttied, sanded and painted.
All windows on the 40 are enlarged and/or reshaped.
Rear fenders extended 3/16" to add length and shape.
Front and rear chrome windshield trim.

Front windows created with Micro Glaze a liquid "make your own windows" product.

A jewelers saw was used to remove fenders and stock from the lower front of the FF40 and also the fenders from the rear so it would drop down on the SwoopCoupe chassis.

Just a tad of Quik Steel was added to the nose of the FF 40 to bring it out and over the SwoopCoupe grill.

Thin Brass strips and Quik Steel is used to fill in the small gaps between body and chassis.

1/64 Gold tape for body trim.

Lots of sanding and priming and sanding and priming.

Darkened Planet Green is shot over Grey Primer.
A very thin Candy Orange with Spring Green Pearl-Ex Powder is shot over the Planet Green.
Clearcoated with Urethane Enamel.

All House Of Kolor products, Of Course!!!!!!!!!!!!!

One word....stunning.

Again, the paint looks flawless and the gold trim is the perfict selection. Another great build.

Just wondering, I know a great deal of your time is spent building contract orcode 3 type convention cars. But when you build a custom like this, do you keep them, sell them, etc? Just wondering what you top flight builders do with your creations.

Very nice car... The headlights give it a very unique look being in closer to the grill instead of being in the outer fender like a 40 ford,
the swoop coupe back end looks good on the car.

Pat, I'm running out of adjectives to describe your killer work. I'm speechless. Great work. Flawless. Excellent. Awesome.

I tried, but it still does not do justice to the pieces of American art you post here on HT.

Thanks for the killer pics.

Gee Guys, I'm at a loss for words, Thanks Man!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

HillTop,
The Gold Tape is by ChartPak.
I buy it at Texas Art Supply here in Houston.
You can order it from Texas Art Supply.
Drafting Supplies and good Artist Supply stores should carry it.
Online, search for ChartPak Drafting Tape.
It comes in Chrome foil, Gold foil, and a variety of colors as narrow as 1/64".
I buy the 1/64" and 1/32" since they fit scale wise to our 1/64 castings.
55 feet per roll will last you almost forever.
It will bend around curves laterally but wil not bend up or down more than a few degrees.

Hey Stang,
I slipped and overlooked your question.

I have sold most of my best pieces at California Conventions and during the 4 day Houston Autorama during Thanksgivings.
The money offered was just too good to refuse.
I have a friend here in Houston that comes to our monthly Toy Fair and he buys my best stuff.
He reminds me of Mister GreenJeans, I call him The Farmer, comes by in overalls and he always has a pocket full of Croakers (Hundreds).
He has more of my Customs than anyone.

But I have also turned down cash because I keep pieces to show when I setup somewhere.
Sooner or later someone will come along wanting it as much as I do.
In the meantime I enjoy just looking at them.

What really amazes me at Conventions is the people who buy those VW Buses.
Some will pay $500 for a Bus but won't even look at a Custom.
One casting is made in minutes by a machine by the thousands and the other is a hand made one-off labored over for 2 or 3 weeks or longer.
I made 10 Buses for my first California Convention in '05 and sold every one of them to the first person who came through my room, while I was still unpacking.
The guy didn't even care about looking at my Customs.
You could shoot a bullethole into a VW Bus and someone would pick it up and say,"Man, this looks just like somebody shot it, How much do you want for it????"

When you sell a Custom you enjoy owning you always tell yourself you can make another.
The truth is you find yourself always looking to the next idea or challenge and not so much thinking about recreating one.
It's fun to come up with the ideas.
It's fun to make them and they're fun to hold and appreciate.
It's also fun to see someone else thrill to buy it.
One good Custom pays for a lot of supplies to make more.

Once I put one of mine in my Curio cabinet it stays put.
But if it travels with me there's always the chance it won't come home.

I'll post a pic of my "Are We There Yet" that I wish I still had.
Only got one picture of it.

Thanks again to all for the good words,
Aint no Talk like HobbyTalk!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Pat, I have been admiring the paint work on all of your customs and can honestly say they are the best! . Do you have a tutorial or some special techniques that you use to get the paint so smooth? It usually takes me 2 or 3 repaints on mine just to get them half way smooth with no lumps or bumps.

Hey Bud,
I've got some Paint Tutorials coming up but they are about a month off.
I'm on Step 5 called Paint Stands.

First question,
Are you using an AirBrush???

Yes I have an Eclipse. But I am having better luck with just straight Testors rattle cans. I have tried Model masters and some Dupli-color in the airbrush.

CadillacPat

Heck Man, an Eclipse is the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All you've got to do is get one good paint job under your belt with that AirBrush and you'll be reborn.

Here's my Email,
CadillacPatCustoms@comcast.net

If you like send me you number, I've got free long distance.
I bet I can help you by just avoiding whatever it is that's not turning out right.
Let me know when it's a good time to call.
I've been at the Hospital with Mama for the last 38 days but we can easily find time somewhere to shoot the breeze.

It's just like anything.
Anything in the world can be accomplished, you just have to begin weeding out the ways that don't work.

Where yat Bud,
I haven't forgotten your question.
With this new cold snap here in Houston I'l have about 3 nights of "indoor Customizing" and will put something together that I hope will help.
Not so much like one of my usual Tutorials but rather just a read through of what I do.

I'll put it up in a fresh thread.

I'm right here Pat!
I am still recuperating. They did 5 arteries instead of the 3 or 4 they told me they were going to do. But I am gaining strength every day. I even went out and gathered some cars for the next HTKK and few victims for the Highway to Hell. I wanted to enter your Trifecta but have not found a single Dairy Delivery anywhere in the Orlando area.
Before my surgery I played with some painting on the bangerdome car. I still used the rattle-cans but I remember someone saying they used a small toaster oven to bake the paint. Maybe it was you, but anyways it worked pretty well. Had to play with a few different temp settings before I got a good smooth, un-bubbled surface! (See the Bangerdome Continental). I have not tried using the airbrush with the enamels yet as I have it set up for my R/C bodies right now. Anyway, I am looking forward to reading your tutorials.

Hey Bud, may I ask what was the problem with the arteries? The reason I'm asking is I have a couple the doc wanted to fix a long time ago but I chickened out on him.
Pat... Your work is just amazing!

Where yat Bud,
All your friends here at HobbyTalk wish you a full and speedy recovery.

I don't use Toaster Ovens, I think they are too harsh, but instead build my own Fact-O-Bake Ovens.

My large main Oven built for 60 castings.
