View Full Version : "Ten Years After"
CadillacPat 08-29-2008, 08:06 PM I call this one "Ten Years After".
Alvin Lee was a Bourbon Street regular for years and years and always came by a hangout of mine.
When I made this one I thought of the band.
Here's a '47 Chevy atop a '57 Suburban.
Military Muscle Machine tires,
Gold 1/64 trim tape,
Decaled panel windows,
Front and rear windshield trim,
Planet Green over Gold basecoat, shot with some Emerald Green Pearl-Ex Powder.
Urethane Clearcoat,
All House Of Kolor products, Of Course!!!!!!!!

craftymore 08-29-2008, 09:52 PM Very cool PAt. The car looks like it just blends in with the burb. Great work and thanks for the awesome pics.
bob8748 08-29-2008, 11:15 PM Thats totally wild! Let me think... Sure, I would drive it!
bobhch 08-30-2008, 01:42 AM Pat,

Bourbon st.Always a neat place to visit .
Hilltop Raceway 08-30-2008, 09:50 AM Now that's another cool custom!!! Good color choice as well!!! I see Bob...I like diecast's too...zilla beat me over here. How did you chrome the bumpers if I may ask??? ... RM
CadillacPat 08-30-2008, 11:50 AM Thanks Guys,
HR,
I should have mentioned,
The '47 as you can tell is a HotWheel but the '57 is a Jada.
It came with plastic chrome bumpers and grill.
Revell makes a '47 real close to the HotWheel.

69Stang 08-30-2008, 12:10 PM That is such a cool build! I love the outside the box blending! Just a super looking ride.
I think the uderstated flawless green color you laid down really highlights the craftsmanship in the casting. It is so clean, this thing does not even look custom, it looks factory produced! And that is almost imposible to pull off, so again, great work!!
zeb41 08-30-2008, 01:10 PM Pat,
This thing blows my mind! Both the concept and the execution are A-1! That looks like something a coach maker would have produced. I can't believe how well that '47 roof fits the Suburban roof. Your detailing is impeccable as well. Excellent!
Hilltop Raceway 08-30-2008, 01:12 PM Thanks CPat, Auto World ( slotcars ) released the 57 Surburban in a slotcar. The AW has white bumpers, yea we re-paint these too. I don't think the Jada bumpers will fit, I believe it's bigger in size.

bobhch 08-30-2008, 01:44 PM Yeah the AW 57 Panel truck by AW is great. I loved it so much that I made a mold of it for casting more of them as pictured here.

This Gulf version is the original AW body done up for the HOHT (Heart of Hobby Talk) Charity Auction Hilltop and I just built a bunch of slot cars for.

If you guys found a rare die cast you could just mold it up in resin also and slap a chassis under it to make as many of them as you wanted. www.smoothon.com is the place and they have a starters kit that cost 49.99 bucks plus shipping. Hilltop just started casting and is a great way to get multiple bodies and parts...hood scoops, etc....
If you do up a custom body and wanted to make more than the one custom you could just cast it up and Phsssssssssssh it different colors...Yeah!
We Slot Car heads cast HWS, JLS or any die cast we can to resin form because it is lighter and our stuff has to move around the track. You guys could use slot car bodies to build some die cast also if you so desired. There are lots of slot car bodies out there just waiting to be Pimped Out.
Bob...If it is a car then it is Kewl by me (metal or plastic)...zilla
CadillacPat 09-06-2008, 06:40 AM Thanks a bunch guys,
I've got 2 other PiggyBack type Customs that have been hanging in a glass box for years awaiting futher progress.
One is a '40 Ford Fat Fender atop a '57 Suburban.
And the other is a VW atop a '57 Sub.
Just more stuff that got passed up for something else that got my attention at a particular moment.
Actually there are 3 glass boxes full of that kind of stuff.
I'll take a pic and show it tomorrow.
