If I'm involved in this - it will NOT be like the other R/C racing ventures I'm involved in. IT Would be 'For Profit' on My PART - to at least afford me the ability to put a LARGE effort into it.

I proposed a ANNUAL Membership dues/fees of a measley $1.25 per Week (Min. ONE year membership) - , and would need a MINIMUM of 500 members per year to even consider taking on the task, and even that wouldn't be enough to actually cover expenses, other people involved, etc.

Are there even 500 OVAL RACERS left in the U.S.?

I think what you want is called ROAR.

The membership has entrusted the directors to help guide the direction of the hobby. If the rules are out-of-date, the memebers need to inform the directors that a change is needed.

I really do not think there is need to present a another organization to compete with a already fractured hobby. Even as a ROAR track, the rules can be altered for the best accomendation of local racers. The only way ROAR will know changes are needed in rules is if local tracks are making those changes or develop new classes.

Let's see, racers complain about the $25 ROAR fee that covers all forms of racing but you expect them to pay $65 for an org. for only one type of racing? You're either a masochist or smoking some good stuff :jest:

Hank,

Thank you for doing the MATH -

I might be willing to be involved in another National Organization, but it will not be with the efforts I've put in in the past w/o it being for PROFIT.

Guys have so little idea what and how much work is involved trying to do a "Organized Club", there are a lot of people who give up a LOT of their time, working for an organization that only gets them complained at.

As I said in another post - THERE ARE OPTIONS - but those options won't come cheap.

$30.00 annual membership fee
$80.00 entry - NATIONAL event
__________________________

$2.11 per week

Multiply that times 150 "Oval Racing Members" = $16,458.00 a year.

That's about how much money OVAL brings in to the current organization annually. (Ok, there are probably a few more than 150 members...but how many more?)

From that $$$ figure, you have 2 NATIONALS to run, a few REGIONAL events to run, equipment to buy, repair, rent, etc. Plus all the other expenses, including paid race staff, travel, lodging, supplies, etc. And that doesn't pay ONE DIME to the "Organizing Committee" who's writing, updating rule books, testing products and answers all the emails, phone calls, and message board threads involved with the hobby.

It's not enough $$$ to pay ONE PERSON a decent Annual wage. If it were ONE Persons FULL TIME JOB it would be enough for a GROSS WAGE of $7.91 Per Hour, based on just 40 hours per week. That would be if ALL of those entry monies came in on the SAME date, and 100% of it was used to pay ONE SINGLE employee.

A truely PROFESSION organization should be able to pay their "Professional" staff a decent amount of money.

Race Director at a NATIONAL EVENT - figuring on a 10 hour day = $200.00
Tech Director at a NATIONAL EVENT - figuring on a 10 hour day = $200.00
Race Announce at a NATIONAL EVENT - figuring on a 10 hour day = $150.00
Other positions at a NATIONAL EVENT - figuring on a 10 hour day = $80 - 100 ea.

If a guy isn't going to make a few $$$, why in the heck is he going to be willing to put up with the ABUSE he will get from racers? The LOVE of the hobby only goes so far.

is R.O.A.R. perfect? NO - but it's only going to get better, if RACERS make it better. It's the most COST effective way to be organized as well.

so - the idea of a United States Oval Club is and can be real, but it will NOT be a cheaper way of resolving the issues of the OVAL world.

I would think racers would be better off sending Hank $50 for a Lifetime Mebership to HobbyTalk and keeping up with the yearly dues for ROAR.

But then again, you could be onto something. Hobbyist are crazy people. They will buy cheap RTR mini and spend $500+ in mods trying to make that car work when all they had to do was just buy an oval car and put a slower motor into it.
