67-4-fun 08-30-2008, 01:09 AM can you change the pistion's to a different resistance level like you would our center shocks???

ovalguy1 08-31-2008, 03:32 PM Hey guys has anyone run the shocks yet? What do you think? Let us know..
Ritchie Mac
jbm38 08-31-2008, 04:12 PM I saw these shocks yesterday and was told that you need to run softer oil than the Associated shocks?
Could anyone expand upon this information.
Thank you.

best money ever spent!
Justnitro 09-01-2008, 12:26 AM I ran mine this weekend and that are silky smooth. My car has never transfered weight like it does with the Silva shocks. I will be getting a few more sets. You will not be disappointed in these. Thanks for the great shocks Silva.

KATFISH perhaps you can shed some light on my question since you've run these shocks. What was the weight difference in oil that you used in your Assoc shocks to these shocks?
katf1sh 09-01-2008, 01:19 PM honestly i used 40 wt oil in mine and thought they felt close to 30-35 wt oil when i ran the irs shocks...my car was so good i never played with heavier oil...i think there might be about a 10lb swing on the new shocks....
the e clips that come with the shocks are horrible..very brittle
the e clips that come with the spare shaft and piston are the black variety and work much better.
tightning the set screw while wrestling with the shock spring under load is rogh as well...
but the building of the shock is a dream!
ovalguy1 09-01-2008, 01:38 PM The length of the shaft is .967 and a team A shock is 1.00.
Kat I found if you measure the space between to collar and the end of the shock before a rebuild you can loosen the collar up and when your done you can just tighten back to the measurement. Works good for me.
Just helps so you don't have to have any preload on the shock.
As far as the E clips I have not had and trouble with them. I have to use a small pare of needle noses to put them on.(hands to big)
Running mine Sat at the wood..

ScottH 09-05-2008, 08:27 PM For you guys that have these, could someone please tell me how long they are? I need center of top mount to center of bottom mount.
THANKS in advance!
jblackburn 09-05-2008, 09:41 PM Any idea what the shock shaft diameter is?
Z-Main Loser 09-06-2008, 11:15 AM Any plans for making red kits?
WLMaye 09-06-2008, 07:30 PM Just built my first set and they were pretty easy to build even for me ;) I haven't built any shocks in a while and these went together real easy. Glad I got a set.
Is Sylva thinking about a center shock? :D
Bill
katf1sh 09-06-2008, 07:55 PM the IRS center shock is almost identical to the side shocks you just built.
WLMaye 09-06-2008, 09:02 PM the IRS center shock is almost identical to the side shocks you just built.
Sweet! I was looking at those, might as well get one now!
Thanks,
Bill
ScottH 09-06-2008, 09:14 PM WLMaye -- How long are they?
TLCNUM3 09-07-2008, 07:31 PM BIG THUMBS UP TO SILVA, awessome shocks, SMOOOOOOOOOTH, e-clips a little tough for big/old hands but can be done, Thanks for the sweet shocks.
ovalguy1 09-07-2008, 09:52 PM The length is the same as the Team A shocks. I had to trim my Losi ball cups a little. The length is 2.833....

ScottH 09-07-2008, 09:59 PM Ritchie -- Thanks!
rhodopsine 09-09-2008, 10:42 AM Just got mine today! Real fast delivery considering I live in the great white north and it took exactly 1 week to get them. Looks very well made and I can't wait to try them on my car.
Martin Paradis
I got mine today and started to put them together, piston is too large for the shock, at least the 1st one I tried.
The look very nice, but if their tolerance or QC is bad, looks are nothing.
I finally did sand the piston and tried to polish the bore and got it to work, but you shouldn't have to do that.
ovalguy1 09-09-2008, 04:44 PM AJS
I have built 6 to 8 of these shocks and have not had any kind of trouble. Im no sure if it was just that one piston or maybe it was the shock body. Did you try to put that same piston in the other shock body.Did you measure both pistons. Not trying to make you sould silly or anything.Just trying to see if we have a problem somewere.
Ritchie Mac
I built the other shock tonight and it went together perfectly and feels real good.
No I didn't compare both pistons and shock bodies, so I can't tell you which was not correct the body or the piston, I just made it work.
ovalguy1 09-10-2008, 07:35 AM Hey guys if anyone has any problems with there shocks you can email Dana at the website www.silvaconcepts.net and he said he would take care of you. He told me that they were standing behind there products.
Ritchie Mac
Thanks Richie, I did as you suggested.
I think a lot of a company that will make sure that its products are correct and that the racers are happy with them.
WLMaye 09-11-2008, 09:02 AM WLMaye -- How long are they?
According to Scot with the stryker chassis around 2.88. I'm finishing my car this weekend and will see how that works. Not sure what the difference will be on my hangman chassis. May try Ritchie's suggestion of 2.833 for it and see how that works.
Bill
I was contacted by Silva Concepts and they have sent me a new piston and shock body.
I have to say and I've been very impressed by Silva for they way they have helped to fix the problem. I know a lot of other companies wouldn't have wasted their time to take care of one guy in IOWA.
Thanks to Silva Concepts and I will continue to use their products.
ovalguy1 09-12-2008, 06:31 AM The artical by http://www.rc-oval.com/ on the new shock is up now.

tw78911sc 09-12-2008, 12:22 PM Built mine last night. One went together w/o issue, the other I found a brillo pad of removed material from machining in the shock bore. The shock bore looked fine after shaking all the machine material out. They are really smooth, rebound equally, I like the fact that the shaft is thicker and the spring retainer on the shaft is beefier. Can't wait to try them this weekend.

Just wondering is there any longer shafts available for the shock?
ovalguy1 09-14-2008, 07:10 AM Hey CLB Dana has not mentioned anything to me about a longer shaft. Not trying to be nosey why do you want a longer shaft??
