View Full Version : Ghostly ghastly
Jim NCC1701A 08-21-2008, 12:34 AM Just when you thought Hollywood couldn't stoop any lower, along comes news of yet another totally unnecessary movie re-make - or "re-imagining" as the euphemism goes.
The Hollywood Reporter (http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/content_display/news/e3i11533547aab0683e5b9c89f837ab444b) claims that MGM has a re-imagining of classic 80s flick Poltergeist in the works.
The original's a classic. Stop flick-fiddling, guys!
ChrisW 08-22-2008, 01:04 PM I'll agree that it doesn't need to be remade, but the original movie never really did it for me. I think maybe because it was so over the top, throwing every ghost cliche into the mix.
Roland 08-23-2008, 01:59 PM I liked the original Poltergeist movie, but, I really don't feel that I need to see a remake. Sorry, holloywood, you will have to be a bit more creative than that.
Here's another dumb remake I saw recently. Remember the funny movie "The Out of Towners" with Jack Lemmon that was made in 1969? Someone had to remake it with Steve Martin and Goldy Hawn in 1999. I probably watched the original 4 times. The new version, I never wanted to see more than once...
Jaruemalak 08-23-2008, 02:28 PM Personally, I felt Poltergeist was OK, but i wouldn't necessarily call it a classic... no attacks, please... it's just my opinion.
What really bothers me is the preview I saw for Steve Martin in The Pink Panther... TWO! I couldn't sit through even half of the first one.
John P 08-23-2008, 08:03 PM Considering the curse of the first Poltergeist film, I can't imagine an actor looking forward to being in a remake.
Zorro 08-23-2008, 08:40 PM Won't be the same without Zelda Rubenstein.

John P 08-24-2008, 09:04 AM Asa soon as the cast is announced, let's start a deadpool! :)

Dead Pool? Don't tell me they're doing a Dirty Harry remake as well...
Jaruemalak 08-24-2008, 09:22 PM Yeah, the "curse" of Poltergeist. You want a really scary statistic? Think about the Curse of The Wizard Of OZ! Believe it or not, nearly EVERYONE who appeared in that movie... is DEAD!;)
Zorro 08-24-2008, 10:10 PM Yeah, the "curse" of Poltergeist. You want a really scary statistic? Think about the Curse of The Wizard Of OZ! Believe it or not, nearly EVERYONE who appeared in that movie... is DEAD!;)
That's because of all those A-Bomb tests in the Utah desert.
jheilman 08-24-2008, 10:49 PM Well, I loved the original despite it's occasional venture over the top. The scene with the investigator literally ripping his face off comes to mind. That and the gaping hole to hell in the closet, but no matter. The quieter scenes were very effective and I admit one scene always gets to me. When the investigators first speak to Carolanne and she's being chased she passes through her mother. The subsequent scene where she and her husband recognize their daughter's fragrance is well done and moving.
Not really interested in a remake. But sooner or later, they will remake everything.

John Wayne was in [I]The Wizard of Oz??
Jim NCC1701A 08-24-2008, 11:55 PM Stands to reason - if you follow Jaruemalak's reasoning that everyone from WoO is now dead...
Zorro 08-24-2008, 11:55 PM http://www.asianweek.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/12/6_johnwayne.jpg[/img-left]
John Wayne was in [I]The Wizard of Oz??
Yeah. Don't you recognize him from that picture? He's the soldier who exclaims "The Wicked Witch is dead! All Hail Dorothy!", followed by; "You're mighty pretty when you're angry, Miss Gale."
scotpens 08-25-2008, 02:37 AM Naah, that couldn't have been him. The outfits worn by the Wicked Witch's soldiers weren't that gay!
John P 08-25-2008, 09:04 AM Maybe some of the original cast will comeback to life if they remake it!
