View Full Version : Trains and Lanes Hobbies, Easton Pa 18045 (Racing every Sunday)
tenpins77 08-19-2008, 08:51 AM Okay well with hopes things will pick up again i am going to push for the last and final time racing every week. I have done it at the beginning and middle of the season and no one seemed to show (even those who recommended running every week didn't show/ or have enough to run races.) For those of you who unfourtunately have a bad taste in your mouth for trains and lanes or think your driving skill exceeds the standard at Trains and Lanes on a weekly basis things have changed alot! This past Sunday we gave out over 125 dollars in cash prizes to over 4 classes!
We have tried pushing every week instead of every other week however the turnout just isn't there every other week.
Ultimately its up to you guys what you want to do. Normally take away the Dirt runners, action or Pitstop guys and not that many show up to run. So ill give it a shot! As much as i love being there and running races, i have a bowling sponsorship to take care of as well, which will require me to manage races and getting to PJBT tournaments throughout this month through October, however i can put our racing ahead of bowling for now if we start pulling in a crowd every week. **** the bowling tour goes to May ! (so i can make that time up)!
So here it is, Entrys for This weekend! Im giving this the final and last shot only because a few guys have been talking about it lately and im open to making TnL The Place to Race! Lets get those entry's
With Respect!

post your name, class, transponder, and radio frequency below in a neat fashion.
JeepGuyNJ 08-19-2008, 09:47 AM Glad to see you posting on here Tim!!! Trains and Lanes is a great place with alot of potential now that your running the show. I look forward to racing there again soon!!!
Jerzferno 08-19-2008, 10:48 AM Tim, I myslef am wondering why the racing has not taken off there? How about making a poster/banner to hang in the store by the parts counter? There was a steady flow of guys in the store all day when we were racing. Whats it like during the week? Nothing wrong with the track. Maybe beef up the transponders a bit? Noticed the rack only has 8 out of 20 it can hold. Speed up the show a bit if possible. Thats a problem anywhere I race. Other than that I enjoyed racing there this past weekend very much, and will return again. Maybe the rumor I heard will spark a big interest in racing there next season?

JeepGuyNJ 08-19-2008, 11:26 AM You mean that rumor that Tim will buy everyone a new truggy that races at T&L??? :):)
tenpins77 08-19-2008, 11:41 AM haha, no the new track roomer thats been going around for 4 years!!!
Yeah, race days are long only because the setup worked great when they used to have two classes. Now we have about 4 and qualifying rounds take about an hour each for 4 classes. I really think 2 qualifiers would make time go by quicker? Who knows! But as long as were done by 6 we made good time. :woohoo:
Yeah house pt's stink and soon i think were going to be getting rid of em, there about 20 years old. I think im ready to make the 100 dollar a piece investments myself.
tim

The pace was perfect 2 weeks ago at T&L, and that was with the most racers I've seen there all year (DR, Pitstop & T&L guys). There had to be at least 40-50 total entries that day. I think that if you stick to the rules you used that day (5 minutes between heats & 15-20 minutes between rounds), things will run smoothly and quick.
It's just my opinion, but I like the 3 qual, 1 main format, even if it does make the program run a little late into the day. Since I was running all 4 classes 2 weeks ago, the total of 12 qualifiers allowed me to skip the 3rd qual for 1/8 buggy to give me time to work on my setups and charge packs for the mains. So for my $45 in total entry fees that day, I had 15 total runs out of 16 possible runs and 88 minutes of combined runtime between the 4 cars, not counting practice time.
You could also try starting the qualifying at 11am instead of noon, especially now that it's getting darker sooner. And PTs are definitely the way to go. The $100 investment for each is definitely worth it. That leads me to another idea. How about offering discounted race fees for people who have PTs and don't use the house PTs? That would encourage more people to buy PTs, which would also speed up the raceday.
And just one last idea. You know me, I've always suggested running your races every 2 weeks. It would surely build up more demand.
Whatever you decide to do, just try to be consistent, as I think most racers like to know that there is a structured, well planned racing program. That, I think, is one of the keys to the success of Dirt Runners.

that might be a possibility as well. Maybe next season we can go with 11? Ill mention it though.

Jerzferno 08-19-2008, 05:18 PM If you go PT's, you will lose 50% of your entries or more, me included. I cant spend $110 x 3. Dont have it for that. I could swing one maybe, but changin it from model to model would be a pain. Look how many guys used the club transponders.
Jerzferno 08-19-2008, 06:36 PM Tim, any results/write up yet?
tenpins77 08-19-2008, 10:35 PM for the site?? Im auctually having some issues with that! turns out the free hosting deal i got was only for six months so now perhaps we may be having a race to support the website? or a 5 dollar donation to keep it up and running?

I think what he meant was that he is thinking about getting PTs for his own cars, not requiring everyone who races at T&L to have PTs.
tenpins77 08-20-2008, 09:49 AM Well to be honest with you the pt's are about 20 years old, mid 80's! And i can almost swear that that the house pt's are about 1 to 2 secconds off on time. Im normally almost halfway up the first jump after the backstretch before i hear the beep! However it could just be me, as all the "faster guys" seem to have pt's? Im definately thinking about seeing if theres a noticible time difference with a pt vs a house pt?
Tim, Rick yuhas and me might be comming up but if he doesn't does anyone normally pit with you? if not would you mind if i borrowed some of your tents shade:thumbsup:

It usually gets a little crowded up by where I pit by around 9/9:30, but if you get there early enough you can park right next to my car and set up under my tent. No problem.

With all the coin they've been raking in down there this season, I would think they'd be able to afford a new rack full of house transponders (HTs) for next season. My PTs seem to "beep" when the car is right in the apex of the 180* turn right after the long straight. Sometimes it seems a little later or earlier than other times, but that's probably due to the way the wire runs under the track.
tenpins77 08-20-2008, 12:44 PM what time do you normally get there?
Yup thats where the wire is right at the apex so you should be right on. I will mention the house transponder issue to jeff as well. Ultimately next year i would love to make tnl a club. And have all the fees in like a bank account and what not. Who knows i doubt it would fly though:confused:
Track_Master 08-20-2008, 12:48 PM I'm usually there to open the gate at around 7/7:30ish.
tenpins77 08-25-2008, 08:47 AM guys , my aplogies to all who came out yesterday. The talk of running every week was only slightly mentioned by a few guys and i only had 1 pre entry. Also we were told several times by our dirtrunners crew that having a race on their day was a bad idea.
Please check out www.trainsandlanesoffroad.com to check out when we are racing.
