Back and Better than Ever,
it's time for Michiana RC's 2008/2009 Oval Season!
Here's the start of the new thread for Michiana RC's 2008-2009 Oval Season. We have many new exciting things planned for the '08/'09 Winter Carpet Oval Season- stay tuned to the website and this thread for more information!
Last year, as many of you know, we ran some selected Sundays, and had a trophy race, the Michiana Oval Madness in February. Due to local request, this winter will be a little different...
Michiana RC will run oval every Saturday Night, with plans to open doors at 12:00 noon, and start racing at about 4:00pm. First race will be October 4th, with an open house on September 30th. Also, the Michiana Oval Madness will make it's return in February of 2009, but also look for a second, soon-to-be-named oval race in November of 2008. Lastly, there will be a pair of point series, one running from October to Christmas, one after Christmas to the end of the season, with prizes for the winners.
The primary goal of this track will be to have a GOOD TIME! The racing will vary from sportsman to seasoned veterans, and all racers will be treated equally. At this time, everyone's welcome, but strongly suggest you leave the boxing gloves at home. You won't be tolerated if you want to "take someone outside" or decide you want to destroy everyone's car. Our road course guys have a blast on Friday nights, we had a lot of fun on the oval last year- and it will stay that way.
If you've never been to Michiana RC before- Here's a few reasons you'll wanna check us out!
36' x 60' track surface, with an approximate 120' runline.
Fresh CRC "Fasttrack" Ozite racing surface.
12' wide infield, with "ice" corners- no hard corners!
AMB Scoring which accepts Personal Transponders.
RC Scoring Pro, the best software on the market.
Good upstairs and downstairs pitting.
Hobby shop on-site, carrying the essential items.
A clean, fun environment!
For classes, we will run this season like last, where the core classes will remain intact. Here's a brief description...
17.5 Sportsman Pan Car: This class will run as last year. The emphasis will be from the beginner to intermediate racer, but will be opened to seasoned veterans as well. This class, like last year, will be friendly to brushed racers. Novak 17.5 Brushless or ROAR legal brushed stock motors will be allowed, 4 cell, 4600mAh max battery. Backs of the body CAN be cut out. But please, leave the wing at home. The BRL 1" spoiler revision will be applied, and speed controls will be open.
13.5 BRL Pan Car: This class also will run as last year, and is suggested for the intermediate to advanced racer. Novak 13.5 motors are required, 4 cell, 4600mAH max battery. Backs of the body CAN be cut out. But please, leave the wing at home. The BRL 1" spoiler revision will be applied, and speed controls will be open.
21.5/LiPo BRL Pan Car: This will be a new class for 08/09, will follow BRL rules, and is suggested for the intermediate to advanced racer. Novak 21.5 motors are required, 2 cell 3200mAH LiPo battery- either the Orion 3200 "Race Spec" or the new SMC 3200 will be allowed. Backs of the body CAN be cut out. But please, leave the wing at home. The BRL 1" spoiler rule will apply, and speed controls will be open. NOTE: Michiana RC has a stringent LiPo policy, similar to the BRL rules (no overcharging, LiPo Sacks, etc...) There will be NO TOLERANCE for LiPo abuse.
NOTE ON 13.5 & 21.5/LiPo Class: At this time, we expect the local Michiana racers to stick to the 13.5/NiMh configuration, and expect few, if any to run the 21.5/LiPo car. Literally, there's been little to no buzz about it in this area. However, there are many racers outside our local area that are already running the 21.5/LiPo configuration, such as our friends in Michigan. We will definitely accommodate these racers. For LOCAL CLUB RACING, unless there's a huge turnout of each class, we will group the 13.5/4 cell and 21.5/LiPo cars together, with the goal of less classes/more racers per class. If we note a huge advantage either way, we WILL separate the two classes. At the TROPHY RACES, the two classes WILL BE SEPARATED.
Outlaw Sprint Cars: No changes to this class, either. Rules will be "Pete's Rules", just like last year. Novak 10.5 Motors, Six-cell, 4600mAh max NiMh battery. I am considering opening this class to LiPo's, as well as open to other motors. I will discuss this with Pete, and will go from there. Also, I know there are some 13.5-powered sprint cars out there. You're welcome to run, but keep in mind, it's a 10.5 class.
Losi Mini Sliders: Rules will probably follow last years essentially "box-stock" rule. However, this will be reviewed. Ultimately, I would like to see a Youth Slider Class. We have a handful of kids that I feel would benefit from running together.
Other classes... There have been MANY discussions of other classes, as well as some interesting side classes. In our area, we have a small group of Indy Cars and Losi Mini Late Models. There's also some 10.5 cars floating around out there. There have also been discussions regarding rubber touring NASTRUCK, stadium trucks (off-road style), Legends, etc... Our rule will be this: If there are three or more, we will run them.
We're also discussing a few things at the moment, such as a TRUE NOVICE CLASS and an OUTLAW LATE MODEL SERIES, which would be pan cars, late model bodies, some "outlaw" rules, and racing like the real cars do it. I'll post more on these later. The Late Model idea will probably be on a separate thread.
Check out our website, www.michianarc.com for directions and other information!
For now, that is the main things everyone's been wanting to know. Like I mentioned earlier, over the next few weeks, we'll clarify some things further. But for now, giddy up! Let's race!
Thanks guys, for the continued support! Pat, Aaron and Todd- Michiana RC Raceways
