Check out the "Layout" section of the web site below. You'll find a couple of ways to use this set.

You can't go wrong with the Tomy International set. 4 great cars out of the box, a great variety of track. As for durability, it goes together well and is much more forgiving than the older track sets. Only cons I can think of for Tomy is a tad narrower lane spacing, and the track tends to be a little more expensive to add on later. Tyco is a dime a dozen anymore, but hard to find used without some broken tabs. Tomy has far more pieces than any other brand, except for maybe the orginal Aurora Track..

Remember, to get sectional track to last, you should consider a table, board, or old door to put it on. Keeps the wear and tear down...

Goo luck- Marc and Marcus

the only problem I have with Tomy track is that the bank turns keep coming apart when cars round it. Anyone else have that problem?

Yes, I had this problem. That is why I had to glue mine with Plastruct Weld when installing them in my permanent build of the Aurora Club track. But then came the adventure of trying to get the adjoining straight pieces to neatly transition to the flat portions of the track so that it looked natural. Never could come up with a solution I cared for, so I abandoned the idea of banking altogether and changed it to a flat 180 degree turn.

paintball, so you are aware, the banked turns are not part of the set you are considering, so don't let my babbling sway you. The SI set was my first and it is a very good starting point to get acquainted with the hobby. As others have mentioned, for being box stock, the cars are very fast.

The weakest part of the set as far as I was concerned were the controllers. They're small, not very accurate or forgiving where actual "control" over the car's speed is concerned, and they always seemed to burn out. If you do go to build a permanent layout on a door or plywood, chances are you will want to upgrade all of the power components (controllers, driver stations, wiring, power supply)

Hope this helps and enjoy!!!

The Super International set should have a spot in the slot car hall of fame!

Fantastic set and concept. Many different tracks designs can be built with this set. It is in my mind the best 4 lane set ever offered.

Buy it and enjoy it. I have one and I think I like looking at the box and all the neat pictures on it as much as setting it up!

PS the directions say to not run it on carpet, but I did so because I had no other option prior to building a dedciated table for my track. I had no problems. The dust and fibers that the cars pick up won't be good for them in the long run, but if you take care of them regularly, they'll last you.

Is it the first line on the manual, Hard, Flat surface, No carpets or rugs. (I think it's for the cars protection, you don't want fuzzies wrapped around axels and the motor). You can't beat the International set. Four Super G+'s cars, that's a $120.00 right there.

Wanna buy my SI set cars? All still in the baggies :)

I also started (re-started) with the Super International set. One other drawback not mentioned before is that there are a ton of 6" curves in this set. Most of them are stored under my track table.

I first glued mine with Platruct Weld, but it came apart. I don't know if it was the heat or what. The best thing I found was good ol super sticky duct tape on the back. It just worked the best. Lay the track, hold together and duct tape it. No one will ever know, unless you tell them.

Just figured I'd throw my 2 cents in. I don't know even half the stuff the rest of the gents here would probably know. I've had my track together for like 8 or 9 mos. so I've only really been into it a bit longer than you have. One thing that will kill you is that once you really get going this is like a drug, it only gets worse. I went over to a friend of mine's house and saw his real nice setup. Most people here know him, micyou3, and he was nice enough when we first started to let me keep coming over and drinking all his coffee. :) That right there is a good portion of what got me hooked so tight that it ain't funny. Hangin' out with fun people to race with man, to me ... totally worth it.

First of all and I think people said this: HAVE FUN!!!! This is such a fun little hobby. I'm still really glad I got back into it after being away for around 10 years give or take a bit.

Regarding that Super International race set. That thing really is the bomb. 4 super nice cars to start with and a bucket of track. That has everything and then some. Just like someone else pointed out though, afterwhile you'll have a lot of extra pieces lying around. I started with that and ended up buying 2 or 3 more tracks and made a 12'x4' layout in my basement. The thing is fun as heck and I even had my wife's blessing from the getgo which was a huge plus!

Hope that gives you that little oomph to really get into it.

Cheers,
Xence
