The first Chase Car, 54 Dodge Coronet. M2 calls this the first Chase Car--the earlier chrome cars were Limiteds in their definition.

I'm confused. Chromes and totally clear's are 1 of 100. Wild Goose is 1 of 1800. Seems the former are the chase cars. Just my opinion.

True, but the chrome and clear pieces are one of 400, not 100.

The clear cars are 1 0f 400? I passed on one. I guess it's not that big a deal. Or is it? Are people collecting them?

Not really, as there isn't much interest in the clear ones. The chrome pieces and this one, however, look nice!

Hi Frank,

Sorry for any confusion with the Limited Editions and Wild Goose / Chase Cars thing. Here's the story in a nutshell. We basically started off with the Chrome cars in the 1st & 2nd releases of the Auto-Thentics. They are produced in less than 400 per release, only one car is chosen per release to be a Chrome car. We liked the idea of a "special car" in each master case, but not the Chrome cars. We didn't want to raise the production number of the Chrome cars; 1. We liked the low numbers and feel it's going to help keep it collectable 2. We do not use cheap chrome; these cars are expensive even on our end. It would no longer make business sense to produce these in a higher volume.

This is where the Wild Goose cars come in. Starting in release 3 of the Auto-Thentics each master case will have one Wild Goose / Black & Gold car. Each release only one car is chosen and made into a Wild Goose / Black & Gold car. So basically each release of Auto-Thentics will have 2 special cars.

We listen to our dealers, collectors, naysayers and even a madman. Being a small company it gives us the flexibility to adapt to the market and the needs of our customers and not have to have an act of congress to make any changes.

Again Frank, sorry for any confusion on the subject of the chase cars. Please bear with us while we make some changes.

Thanks, Sean

P.S. Keep a look out real soon...We are listening.

My bad. The 100 was a typo. I had read the figures Fred posted.

Thanks for the additional information, Sean.

Thank you.

That is a beautiful chase car. I really like the fact that authentic looking characteristics are used to define it as a chase. Most collectors seem to like black. The gold is a beautiful and classy touch.

I really wish you guys would start doing Mustangs :)

Hi SD64, just for the sake of conversation. If we would do Mustangs what year(s) would you want? It does seem that most of the body styles have already been done before.

Sean...you can never do to many Mustangs :)

Sean - if you do start making Mustangs just remember that people want the coupes also. I hear complaints from customers all the time that the majority of the diecast Mustangs are fastbacks and convertibles, whether it's true or not that's how they feel. Fox bodies are also requested but those are too new for you guys. :)
I personally like the cars you are currently making.

Rlyoung1, Yeah I see where fastbacks and convertibles are more popular than the standard coupe. I personally don't care for the coupes past 1968. When I left Muscle Machines I had worked on the new 1965 Mustang coupe, that was a fun casting. And thanks, we also like the cars we are currently making.

Hey if you guys can do Desotos, how about some Chrysler Imperials? Stock versions of the late 50s, '64-'66, '67, and '69-'73 would be cool. How about the '70 Plymouth Fury GT too?

I ran into one ebayer who listed the Black & gold 57 DeSoto as a wild Goose chase car . WRONG !!!!!

I would like to see some mid sixties Fords , Fairlanes , Rancheros & Cyclones too .. As well as 59 & 60 Edsel , & some late 50s Packards & Studes ..

How about a '64 Mercury Comet Cyclone? and/or Caliente convertible?

Though I'd ask since you guys are doing older castings and as far as I know, that one hasn't been done by anyone yet. There was also an A/FX version similar to the Ford Thunderbolt. (it was the 1st year for the Comet Cyclone)

Sean:

Sorry for the late response. Home projects have been taking up a large part of my free time lately. Greenlight has come out with a lot of Mustangs that I have been wishing for. However, I'd like to see them done at the M2 level of detail and accuracy. I agree with the previous post that you can never do too many Mustangs. However, if I had to choose I would go with these:

1965-1966 GT Fastback and Convertible, pace car
1968 GT Cobra Jet
1968 California Special and High Country Special
1969 Mach 1, Boss 302 and Boss 429
1970 Mach 1, Twister Special, Boss 302 and Boss 429
2007-2009 GT, California Special, Roush, Saleen, Steeda
2010 Mustang GT coupe and convertible

Of course....then there are the Shelby's, but Shelby Collectibles is already doing a real nice job in 1:64 at a similar level to M2.

BTW.....thanks for asking

I would like to see all of M2's chase cars done in black with gold accents. Chrome cars just don't do anything for me.

I thought I would chime in with you Skip, just to show that there is more than 1 person interested in seeing some of those. The list you put together of Stangs is one I would largely agree with!

Well said......and to add a few....these REAL Mustangs are quickly becoming highly collectible as we will see more demand in the future:

1978 King Cobra
1984 Anniversary Package convertible
1990 Emerald Green Limited Edition
1993 Cobra

Again, you can never have too many Mustangs!!
