View Full Version : Building the VoodooFX Seaview lighting system...Page 1
Tim Nolan 08-11-2008, 11:01 PM I had posted this on an earlier thread, but I'll repost it for the sake of a few folks who have asked me and are interested in my progress!

This is that pesky and intimidating board that seems to psyche us out! It's the brains of the whole operation, and it really isn't too hard to solder up after reviewing the instructions a few times! Negative wires to the outside, positive on the next row inside, then your dropping diodes on the inside holes. It's really simple! I'm not the best soldering guy, but a little time and patience will make it work. I tested it along the way as I soldered each LED in place.

I laid everything out as I soldered it together, to test fit it for location and proper length of the wires. I made a fitting out of aluminum tubing for the front search light.

A couple of well drilled and cut holes to run the wiring through.

It'll start to look like this as you go along! :woohoo:
I'm mounting the front light behind the actual kit lens.
jwrjr 08-12-2008, 12:23 AM I thought that board was pretty easy to work with. But then I am somewhat biased on that matter.
Seaview 08-12-2008, 12:53 AM Well, what do you know? Somebody switched a light on in here! Thanks, Tim! I have to admit, I'm pretty intimidated by wiring, especially after having severely botched the lighting kit for my Voyager, so I built my Moebius Seaview without the lighting kit I got from VooDooFX, and have been planning to wait until I learn more by these HTMB Posts to increase the competency of my wiring skills. Threads like this one will be of invaluable help.
Yes, I know I can contact Randy at any time, and I appreciate that very much, but there is a "self reliance/pride factor" that needs to be overcome.
You know, like asking for directions when there is a lady riding in your passenger seat. :o
Tim Nolan 08-12-2008, 08:42 AM LOL! I agree! Despite his offering several times to help, I was determined to figure it out on my own! I'm pretty good at electrical and have been since I was a kid. PLUMBING on the other hand, not so good........

JohnGuard 08-23-2008, 01:15 AM can you tell me how exactly are you mounting the board and battery inside the seaview?
jwrjr 08-23-2008, 03:05 AM There are 2 screw-sized holes in the board for those who want to mount the board that way. Alternatively they are useful for securing stray wires.
gojira61 05-06-2009, 12:32 PM I guess I fall into the "intimidated by board soldering" club also. I'm at the point with my Seaview where it's time to light it or not.
Tim - Do you still have the shot of what the board looks like? Or any other of your progress shots?
I'm leaning toward getting the Voodoo FX light kit for the sub at this point.

gojira61 05-11-2009, 11:51 AM Thanks Randy!
I'll be ordering the kit in the next few days. I'll keep that number handy in case I get in any trouble. :)
maucutt 05-11-2009, 05:22 PM Well.....my problem is my eyesite. I bought the FX Seaview lighting kit and thought "OMG" how am I going to solder all those resistors and lights even wearing my magnifier. So I am going to sit on it for a while.
My solution? Well I bought three 10 LED light kits from WallMart, 10 lights on a string and 3 AA batteries. I cut off each LED and re-wired each one back to the main battery back and switch. It worked very well on my Flying Sub, and I an using the same light kit on my Seaview.
I will post the results on my website.
The FX lighting kit, I plan to have a friend assemble it and use it on a future project. Keep up the great lighting kits FX (can you make the boards larger for us near blind guys? LOL)

BT_Tomcat 05-25-2009, 10:07 AM Yes, I was very impressed by VoodooFX's kit. It turned my kit from a great static model to something that was more 'alive'.

Tim Nolan 06-01-2009, 10:53 PM Sorry guys! I didn't relize I had bumped my own pics off, so I reposted them as best I could from memory! Here I am trying to help and killed my own thread! Short story is, it's a great kit, and I'm still buying other kits from Voodoofx for all my other projects! Great service, great stuff!
