View Full Version : roar brushless rule
B-man777 08-11-2008, 12:47 PM hey all: This may have been asked before, but now that roar is allowing other brands of brushless motors to be used it brings up two questions. First what brands and what oval classes are brushless motors other than novak allowed in? Second do you think novak will still be the most popular brushless motor brand even though roar is allowing other brushless brands in oval racing? Thanks for the info
trailranger 08-11-2008, 03:45 PM Since there are 8 different approved 13.5 motors for ROAR racing the chances of Novak remaining the top choice for furture ROAR 13.5 events will lessen. I predicted a total of nine 13.5 motors approved in 2008 back in March on a RCtech Thread.
Some racers are obligated to run there manufacture if the event allows OTN (Other than Novak)
Some racers will run OTN because it is different
Some racers will run OTN because that is what they bought. (Various reasons: LHS, TRADE, Combo with ESC, Sedan Racer, Cheaper, ect)
But for 2008 to middle 2009 I suspect racers will run Novak Motors in 13.5 because the dust isn't setteled on what motor is fastest and there is no need to just buy a new motor becuase it is new. Most people will just wait and save thier money becuase the Novak motor is a good motor that last and the only motor allowed in a BRL race.
swtour 08-12-2008, 03:35 AM Since this is the OVAL Section, I've mentioned this someplace else...but R.O.A.R. doesn't have ANY BRUSHLESS OVAL CLASSES (at least to my knowledge) that are approved except MODIFIED.
This in part is due to the fact that the 07 Oval Committee chose to LEAVE the '07 OVAL rules fully intact for '08 w/ NO changes.
"Sanctioned" '08 R.O.A.R. events I believe have been granted 'Exceptions' to allow for a Non-Sanctioned class as a OPTION class at those events. Thus, allowing the track to basically set the rules suiting their needs.
Once R.O.A.R. does create a set of OVAL Standards for LIPO and BRUSHLESS combinations, I'm sure you will see similar rules to the other 'official' R.O.A.R. classes where the mfg. rules are open to ALL with a set of general specs that have to be met.

Yeah... it already is. Carpet season starts soon and I've never been so apathetic at the beginning of a season. Attendance is sure to fall even more this year and unfortunately so will the number of shops/tracks. It is sad that all of the regions of this country are on different pages in regards to rule "standards". Motor/battery options are starting to look like a chinese menu.
98Ron 08-12-2008, 09:43 AM Also consider that ROAR is behind the 8 ball. Last year at the paved oval nats 10.5 4 cell was a well represented class, this year no 10.5 4 cell (not because it was not offered but because only a couple of racers signed up) 17.5 lipo seems to have replaced 10.5 4 cell.
The target seems to be moving rapidly, with brushless and lipo, if ROAR had defined class for brushless 4 cell, would it have really mattered, with optional classes the tracks and racers choose what classes they run.
Back in the day, when we had 400 entires there where no optional classes just 10th and 12th, stock and modified. Then some where along the decline of oval we started to add optional classes to help keep the car count up. Once that happened ROAR looses control, the optional classes become the biggest classes and the regionalization takes over. The the Snowbirds and now the BRL establish there classes. The racers want to run thoses classes on there local tracks to get ready for thoses events.
Just my thoughts, BTW I enjoy the optional classes and the BRL is a great thing. But as technology changes the locals can change quickly but National organization will always have difficulty keeping up. Unless you are the 900 lb gorilla (NASCAR) in the room.
Remember how long it took ROAR to add 4 cell to the classes, remember how long it took them to make 19t a class.
Many oval racers said brushless won't happen in oval for years, well it came quicker than most thought. Same was said about lipo, yea the sub c cell problems most likely pulled the lipo ahead some but it is here now.
B-man777 08-16-2008, 02:13 PM hey all: Thanks for the info was good stuff. It seems like to me we're still trying to sort out brushless in terms of how much faster than each other 21.5,17.5,13.5,10.5 are so we can find the best brushless for stock intermediate and mod. Looks like to me that li-po is one factor that is helping to cloud the whole issue. Just my thoughts thanks
casper60 08-16-2008, 06:09 PM Just an idea if your looking how to mix classes and what not. 17.5 4 cell is comparable to a stock brushed motor, and if you bring lipo into it, then 21.5 is close enough to 15.5 4 cell, 17.5 lipo is close to 10.5 4 cell. At this point, the is no motor to pair up with Lipo that would equal out to 17.5 / stock.

I disagree.
It would be easy were this to be decided with a NEVER CHANGING market. But as we all know that is just not the case. Technologies are changing so fast with batteries and motors this is a tough target to nail down.
Some will be happy, some will not, such is life.
I know this, after this years carpet season, we will certainly have a better idea on what works on carpet, right now it is a bit of a crap shoot. We know what works outside.
Echeconnee 08-19-2008, 01:15 PM you would! LOL, Just ribbin ya Scott. We will all get through somehow
ScottH 08-19-2008, 10:29 PM I am tough, I can handle it! How gos the fuzz man?!?
Echeconnee 08-21-2008, 05:51 AM The rug is loads of fun, just looking forward to some cooler weather!
