Hello everyone; I have a KSG1 solid chassis car and having a bit of a problem getting the side shocks to move side to side freely. I built the shocks using all the parts that came with the kit including the ball studs; but when I put all the shocks on; it binds up and doesn't allow any side to side movement. If you take one shock off and just have one shock plus the center; it moves beautifully. There must be something simple I must be missing here.......
Any ideas?
Thanx:thumbsup:

How much gap do you have between the top of the shock body and the shock end?

when you say that you pop one shock if it move awesome. which shock?

sounds to me like you have shock lenth issues. you might have to try using different ball cups that are longer. I prefer the Associated b4 ball cups but Rpm also makes some that come in differnt lenths. short. med. long

Look at the attached .pdf.

is that a general number for all cars or is that specifically for the KSG gen 1 and is that number with both shocks installed or just one

Can you take a pic of the rear pod with shocks attached so we can see what might be happening? Are these the right shocks?

Sure I could; I'll do it tonite. As in terms of removing one shock; I have removing the right shock and checking it that way. In terms of the ball cups and shocks; I used the ball cups and shocks that came with the KSG kit.

the ball cups are too short, the shocks should be somewhere around 2.580 in center of ball cup to center of ball cup

you know that's what I was thinking; but I used what was in the kit from KSG; I guess two lashes with a wet noodle goes out to those guys from KSG....... Thanx for all the help I'll remeasure and set the shocks with those lengths.....

Yeah, I guess I should have been a little clearer. :p

That was something Rob Murdock posted somewhere on HT.

Set the chassis with side shocks installed on a flat surface. I leave the center shock disconnected. Set the .170 gap on both shocks by screwing the ball cups in or out. This puts the piston in the middle of the shock throw. This will let the compressed shock completely close while keeping the extended shocks piston from hitting the clip. This was set for the Associated shocks, but I've used this method with all the after-market shocks (except Hot Bodies) and usually it's somewhere between .170 and .180. I've used this method helping people setup cars from all manufactures.

Thanks for everyone's help; I installed a RPM longer ball cup on one side and it works perfectly! Will take the advice of adjusting the pre load to .170-.180 though! Thanx again!

a friend of mine runs that same car with them same body post and has had trouble with the side shocks hitting the bottom of the rear body posts when the rear pod kicks back. he ended up turning the post upside down and fixed the prob, just something to watch for..

The .170 is not the spring preload. It is a static gap set without springs. There is another method to set initial spring preload.
