Howdy,
Looking to buy a Polar Lights 1:350 Enterprise 1701A kit. Would of course prefer unopened box, or at least unopened bags. Optional parts like photoetch detail kit or lighting kit are of course negotiable too, but the main kit is really what I am looking for.
Unfortunately I didn't know this kit existed till a few months ago and by the time I did they were out of production, so bad luck for me. I have seen a couple sporadically on Ebay, but never for a decent price ($20 shipping is ridiculous).

For what it's worth, I'd guess $20 for shipping this kit isn't ridiculous. The kit is in a large box that the post office will classify as a "large package" and it's fairly heavy. I wouldn't be shocked to see priority mail go higher than $20, depending on how far it's traveling. Parcel post, of course, should be much cheaper.

When you see the box and feel how heavy it is, you will understand the shipping cost. It looks like this is going to be reissued by Polar Lights soon. You may want to wait for the new version that's supposed to include some upgrades

Exactly right!
Gone are the days of low cost shipping. Just a fact of life anymore.
I just shipped a square 12"x12" Priority Mail box with a few Monogram 1/48 fighters that weighed under 3 pounds. From Chicago to Princeton NJ was 9.60! So an oversized box like the Enterprise would ship in, is not a shocker at 20.00!

I shipped one of these last week from Arizona to Indiana via Priority Mail . To save the shipping cost of putting it in a larger box I cut foamcore board for the top and bottom and wrapped it in a few layers of thick brown Kraft Paper. It cost $23.00. Parcel post would still have cost $17.00. So it really is not an inexpensive model to ship.
