Hi guys, question for a buddy of mine.
He bought a triton jr back about 4 years ago or more so it's one of the originals I believe. On the box it says li-ion, but I thought guys say you can do lipos with this charger also. Can this charger be updated? I don't even know the difference in charging between a lipo and li-ion.

Any help will be appreciated.

The voltages are different. LiPo is 3.7 volts per cell, LiIon is 3.3 volts per cell. Not sure if the charger can be upgraded.

also there is no way it can be a triton JR if its over 4 years old. the triton JR has only been on the market for a little over a year. it has to be one of the original triton chargers. They were made to charge Li-ion , but not li-po.

Triton JR has both settings. 3.6 and 3.7 volts for li-ion and lipo. Be carefu with the terms though as Hank pointed out some call li-ion is 3.3 volts.

Let's forget the terms li-ion, lipo, lipoly, lithium , ect. since lipos can be called li-ion and vise/versa and all can be under the heading lithium or li-ion. Let's instead just talk numbers since that's ultimately what determines the voltage termnation. For 3 cell:

A nominal 11.1 battery is full at 12.6 volts (most lipos) rectangle cells in a metal bag and apogee li-fe.
A nominal 10.8 battery is full at 12.3 volts (most li-ions) laptops , older li-ion, lipos , some round cells.
A nominal 9.9 battery is full at 10.8 (A-123 nano-phosphate) called li-fe sometimes , round cells.
